The shovel is heavy duty. I have cleaned out ashes under the hot coals without any problems. The shovel head turns where it is connected to the rod, so you really can't use the handle in the same place twice. I'm hoping this flaw doesn't create problems with extended use. I don't want the shovel to turn and empty out on its own when it is full of ashes.shovel is a great deal and I would buy from them again as they have great products it is good to know people like this
