It took a total of three orders to finally complete this purchase. One through an Amazon reseller that wouldn't honor the posted price (Unbeatablesale.com), the second through Amazon, but with a 2-3 month fulfillment window, and lastly one through an Amazon reseller (Price Pros) with Amazon customer service providing a credit for the price difference between reseller price and the unit that would have taken Amazon months to deliver. Once again, Amazon customer service comes through in the end.
Product:
This is a substantial piece of cast iron (53 lbs.) that fit perfectly into an 18" high by 36" wide fireplace. It's also perfectly sized for my 24" long Peterson (RealFyre) gas logs. The fireback was installed leaning directly against the rear firebrick wall without fireback feet, which would have positioned the top arch of the unit above the fireplace opening.
Performance:
The grate, burner sand, lava gravel and burning embers were all refreshed or replaced after the fireback was placed behind them. The logs were repositioned to allow the raised sun image to peer through the fire. This unit now radiates heat 8-10 feet into my family room, which is roughly two times as far as the previous setup without a fireback.

I have a wonderful big fireplace, which throws off a good amount of heat. My main source for the living room.I've been looking for ways to increase the heat output for a yr and finally decided to try the fireback as my cheapest alternative. I had heard both good and bad things about firebacks.
Got this quickly after ordering. I Just had the chimney sweep 10 days ago, so the draw is good and I cleaned out all the ash, before placing this on the back wall. It is a nice heavy fireback and had hope for it.
Unfortuneately, it seemed to rob the heat output. I've been living this way for 3 winters, so I know what it should be, but the room stayed cold using this. Tried it a 2nd night and the same. I made a fire last night without it and the heat was back to normal. I will say all 3 nights the outside temp was bet 25-30 degrees
I am sending it back tomorrow and will continue to live with my wonderful fireplace the way it is.

The product is exactly as described, but I just did not see the results I was expecting. I wanted a warmer room and for this fire back to help direct the heat. It doesn't seem to do anything at all. Very sad, but at least it looks pretty.
