I am so glad I bought this. It makes it so much easier to open and close the damper without getting my hands dirty, and it lets me know when the damper is closed, so I don't light a fire. We usually leave it laying on the mantle while the fire is going, and then leave it hanging on the damper lever while the damper is closed.

I needed something to tell me whether the damper is open or closed. I use the fireplace so rarely that I can't remember.
