When I first looked at the rug I wondered whether it was intended to be placed in front of the fireplace and be impervious to embers. It is good looking, thick and a nice addition to the room. I have a fireplace insert that does not spit much in the way of embers, but even still, this rug is a world of difference from the one it replaced. Have yet to put it to the test (received this during the summer) but I suspect it will do just fine.

I was somewhat surprised by the pricieness of fireproof hearth rugs when I went to replace our old one. The Minuteman is not cheap, but you get what you pay for: a heavyweight, well made product. and the 44" fits our hearth width in front perfectly...One caveat: our old one was brown/oriental and didn't show the ash n wood chips...this one is navy blue/oriental and does show them making shaking it out or vaccuming it a more frequent task for a 'clean' presentation...
