I won't review merchandise unless it's awesome or abominable. This firestick is awesome, so far. We've only had it for two weeks, so time may tell. We've tried a few of the other firestartersthis one is the easiest to activate, is very reliable, has a solid feel, and has a cool look. You can pretend you're Harry Potterit has that wizardy feel to it! Haven't tried to refill the reservoir yet, but it looks simple enough. If you've had it with the cheap disposables, this is the one you get.

Looks great, very nice construction, problem is: IT DOSN"T WORK! At maximum flame setting, I only get a flame 1/4" high, any setting less than maximum, no flame. Takes 4-5 clicks to light, usually, the piezo spark ignites the fireplace, not the flame, quite often in a big whoosh because the gas has been on for 5-10 seconds. Dangerous and ineffective, stay away.

even adjusted all the way up,does not have a big enough flame. hard to get it to refill-seems like it won't take enough fuel.

This is a review by Oscar Jaeger, husband of Lois Padawer. This piece of heavy equipment the manufacturer should provide a tow truck with each shipment arrived DOA. Well, not quite: it lit up once on every 20 or so attempts. Don't hold me to that number: it is not a guarantee but rather an estimate! Also, a lot of pressure must be applied in order to push the switch that is supposed to activate the flame, more pressure than many adults can manage to apply. Finally, the mechanism at the bottom of the lighter whereby the height of the flame is supposed to be regulated consists of a tiny screw that gets stripped after a few turns and thereby becomes useless.

Much more substantial than any of the grocery store 'long matches' and so far appears to work well. Would have welcomed a slightly longer 'maximum flame,' but all in all a worthwhile acquisition.
