We tried to make this work over our plain gas fireplace. But the bottom width of the ledge goes just to the edge of the fireplace. So for our purposes this product was too short. We had to return it. Had we used it, it would have served it's purpose, which was to provide a minimal fram over a plain gas fireplace. I recommend this product for a small decorating area.

These are absolutely beautiful and well worth the cost. I ordered a 4' and 3' and they look great on the wall with pics of the granddaughter. I would definitely recommend this product if you are looking for shelfs to set your pictures on. I will be ordering more of these for other rooms in the house.
