This is a short and sturdy tool. You will need to put your hand in to the fireplace/stove to reach ash/coals in the back. Some of the paint and all of the labels will burn off in a hot fire but this doesn't seem to have any effect except for a little extra smoke. I would have preferred a tool about 6 inches longer but it was not available in this style. Overall a good purchase.
