This fireplace crane looks nice; it's a "simple" design, but it's colonial so it's supposed to be -just what I was looking for.My only issue was that it did not come with mounting bolts. There was some discussion of "why" in the packaging ...something about not knowing what type of masonry you'd be mounting it into. I don't know that I "buy" that argument at all; since it's clearly designed to be mounting in a wood burning fireplace -thus requiring you to drill in 4 holes and install anchors & bolts (..presuming this is an after-construction install).
I think the design could have been just a tiny bit better on the top and bottom "pin" so to speak, that go into the top and bottom wall brackets. The bottom "pin" is to short (because the diagonal brace that helps support the arm attaches so close to the bottom). It leaves little margin of error for mounting the brackets.
I did find, though, it's possible to hacksaw off a small amount of material from the bottom of the brace where it meets the lower pin. Thus, allowing me to shorten the (now longer) pin giving me the clearance I needed to insert it into the mounted brackets.
All in all, it is a nice product. Just plan carefully and don't rush the install; just because it looks simple.... :)
*One last note: Think carefully about which size you buy and where you intend to mount the brackets. Bigger is not really better for this item. I was more concerned with thinking about the pivot motion and really didn't think that much about the relationship of the wood rack and firewood that would be under it. Wish I had mounted it slightly higher and further back than I did to allow for "larger" fire when the crane is not in use.
