I ordered this grate for my wood stove. It turns out to be much too large (my fault, I thought the smallest I could find--18" inch--would fit but it doesn't.) However, it is a very sturdy grate and would order again if I had a bigger woood stove. Because it's heavy, the shipping was more that I thought.

I build a fire in my wood stove every night during winter. I got this grate about 2-3 weeks ago and it's already sagging about an inch and 1/2 on the front cross bar. Normally I can get two years out of a grate. I'm estimating two months for this one.

It probably would be fine for a fireplace as they do not burn as hot.

UPDATE: My two month guess was correct. My grate looks as if it were made of clay and someone stepped on it. Legs are splayed and tines are resting on bottom of wood stove. I would add a caveat to the description of item, "Keep away from heat. Do not place heavy items, such as firewood, on grate".

material is very rugged; very happy w/ this product other than its size (my fault, though)

even though the fireplace insert measured larger than 18" x 14," I overlooked a 3" inset on the base of the insert making the effective flat insert surface on the bottom only about 11"

have to angle the grate b/c of the elevated inset in the front
