Shopped around for the best price ...and after finding it (there is a huge price difference at various places online) and could not be happier with my purchase.

It is made of solid wood with a perfect flawless finish and a one piece solid metal firebox insert.

Once assembled it is quite solid and quite substantial, a perfect size for my living room. Going to add on some bookcases, trimmed out for a built in look.

BTW, the measurement on this example of the fireplace, the white one, are wrong. It is 48" wide, about 42" high and 14" deep. The measurements are correct on other listings, other finishes..not sure why wrong here.

One caveat before I review the product we had a horrible time getting the fireplace, using PlumStruck as the 3rd party. I would never recommend this company. They have no contact number, only email, which they may or may not reply to around 3 days after you are encountering an issue. Other than that, the fireplace looks very nice, it was fairly easy to assemble. The only reason it's not getting a 5 star is that there was a small crack on one of the side panels. I would ordinarily have returned the piece and requested another, but we would probably still be waiting on it, if we had to deal with PlumStruck again, so we left it alone. We use the real flame gel with the fireplace, and it does sound just like a regular fire, with crackling and popping. It looks very nice with or without the fire going.

The burner installed easily, and burns evenly and well. I would prefer the control to be on the side(out of sight) rather than in front, and the "rocks" that were designed to cover the front panel are ugly at best and were discarded. But otherwise, this is a really economical and attractive way to get a gas fireplace into the old wood burning box.

I received the product, put it together, and there were obvious differences between my unit and the picture. The most important difference is there is no fan. I talked to the manufacturer and they said they've asked Amazon to change the description, but it has yet to happen. There is a probe and dependant upon the distance it's placed from the heat source will determine when the unit will shut off. If you want to control the temp yourself with the knob on the front you can bury the probe under the small pebbles they provide to basically deactivate the probe. None of this is explained in the documentation. I'm giving three stars because the lady at the manufacturer was nice and I'm optimistic it will work fine this winter. That's really all I care about and I'll update the review this winter.

Update 8/9/12 After further investigation & communication with the manufacturer I've determined that this unit has no thermostatic control what so ever. It is totally manual and you control the temp with the knob on the front. It is not even the same part number. If you want thermostatic control you must go up to 24" and buy it at Home Depot. I'm just going to live with it because it's way too much hassle to return. The wizzard behind the curtain at Amazon is giving me a small credit for the mix up.

I've now used the product for a full winter season & it performed very well. We use it to supplement our central heat. In central Texas we get a lot of 30s in the morning & 70 in the afternoon weather. It takes the cold edge off in the morning w/o having to turn on the central heat. We use it a lot in the winter. I bought a 50 gal propane tank that when empty I can lift and transport myself to get it refilled. I guess all that really matters is whether or not it works for you and it does what we need it to do.

It heats up my space very quickly.

IT uses propane at a faster rate than i would expect.

But that is not a problem, all the specifications are stated in description.

I received the product and had our local propane company assemble and start the gas log set. The heat output was very good and quickly heated our family room. It wasn't long before we had to manually turn it off. It was advertised to have a built-in thermostat but this assembly did not have one. I re-packaged and shipped back and understand the re-shipping will be deducted from my return credit. Not a happy camper.

Although I am not convinced that ventless is all that safe (I use it with the flue open half-way)...it does create heat and it does have a very nice flame. For the price, it is worth it even though I really only use it for the ambiance. And the instructions are correct when they say there is an odor with the initial use. Most of the ventless sets I researched were 3X the cost....I am very happy I did not go the 700.00 route since I don't feel it is safe to use without venting it.

I think showing the list price of $99.99 is very inflated. The "On sale" price of $37.00 is more in line with what I think it's worth.

I'll have to wait to see how it stands up to use. The black part part is hopefully not going to be scratched up by laying wood on it. We can't tell by looking how the metal is colored and I won't let hubby try scratching it to see how strong the color is.. ÜÜÜ

For what we paid I think it's a fair purchase but I do resent it being passed it off as something much nicer then it is.

If you are going through heavy wood use, which we do in the winter, this is not the item for you . Kindling yes, logs NO . I use it to hold logs and the handle pops off all the time, needed to put super glue on the threads . Probably last another winter.

We needed to find a fireplace accessory kit that would be somewhat childproof. Although we didnt find any childproof kits, this was the best one that came close because the base is very heavy and wont topple over if a kid runs up and pulls on it.

Best SEI Tennyson Electric Fireplace with Bookcases Deals

I ordered this online because it was the size I wanted in a fireplace with bookshelves. Once I received it, I had to put it together and noticed it was 100% Made in China. One of the boards split in the bookend when I tightened the cam lock fastener onto the cam bolt. So I had to use some wood glue and a c-clamp overnight to repair that. And a few more cam-locks just bent open after I tightened them and I was not tightening them too hard. Luckily extra hardware pieces were included and I had to use all of them. Very cheap hardware! Secondly, once the firebox unit was installed, it looked very nice, but made a semi-quiet vibrating noise as the flames flickered. I like it SILENT when I sleep, and the noise irritated me. I opened the firebox to find that somehow the DC motor that rotates the reflector rod makes a vibrating noise against the thin metal it's attached to. I tried to oil the rod in a few spots but that didn't help. It's still noisy. Third, the boards were not all perfect fits. Some boards did not fit together at 90 degrees where they were supposed to. I was still able to forcefully assemble everything but one or two boards were slightly warped or just didn't fit perfect. Last, one of the back panels had water spots on it. --Obvious in the light, but not noticeable in a shadow. Some poor quality control there. Oh also the heater fan and thermostat switch are kinda loud. The heater blower, well, sounds like a fan of course and when the thermostat clicks on and off, it sounds like a loud light switch clicking.

Now, the color of the wood was nice and the flames and glowing log looked nice. But the construction, wood, and hardware quality is not worth the HIGH PRICE in my opinion.

Solid, heavy, well built, nicely engineered, nice finish, I'm very impressed. It took 3 solid hours to put it all together, but it's not hard to do, just takes quite a few steps. But once it's done, it really looks nice. I put a 55" flat screen on it, which looks great, so don't think it can't take more than the 40" they say in the description. The fireplace looks great too, I was mildly surprised how pretty it is. The heater works well but the fan is a little louder than I'd like, but I didn't buy it to heat my living room, just to have a some type of fireplace to put my tv on, and this was by far the cheapest way to go. I'd definitely recommend it. Build quality is excellent, and finish is beautiful.

We love it so far. It adds a lot to our living room. Assembly wa pretty easy, but you will need a drill because some of the holes were not pre-drilled.
