I cut a lot of wood, in fact I have heated with wood for the last 12 years. We like to burn our fireplace for enjoyment as well. As most I became tired of trip after trip retrieving log at a time. I stumbled onto this item. With the price being what it is I figured the quailty would be great. Here is what I think.

Pros....I like the design idea. It goes together well, without screws. It looks good. Large enough to hold a good quanity of firewood for fireplace.

Cons....Its made from very light metal, from China. The clips on the dolly which secure the log basket are spot welded onto the dolly. I suspect them to fail quickly requiring a home repair so be prepared. Small plasic hollow wheels.

Furthermore after I had orded it I did notice a day or so later Sears.com had the same item from the same seller for $20 less, free shipping as well. Considering the price of the item I fell the quality if much less than should be. If it were $65 I would have been happy.

Easy to assemble, good quality for the price. I wish the hand truck portion had something to prop it so it could be stored upright. Overall very happy with it.

It's not as attractive as I anticipated. If I can't figure out a way for to make it look better, I'll end up taking it down.

Difficult to put up as it is large, two people would be needed to get it up perfectly. Also, we had some problems with it sticking to the wall but it may have been our surface.

good product for use in starting pellet stoves especially for those that are difficult to start. Recommend Meeco's over others I have tried.

One Match is far better than the other firestarters I have used. It is easy , lights quickly and it dosen't evaporate. Great product.

Really good starter gel! It doesn't burn out and the fire in our pellet stove starts on the first try! Much better than the other starter gel we had been using (One Match). The only drawback is that it leaves an awful smell on your fingers if it gets on you.

Honest reviews on MEECO'S RED DEVIL 432 Gel Firestarter

The electric ignitor on my pellet stove finally gave out after 5 years so we were forced into doing manual starts. Unfortunately, I learned manually lighting pellets just doesn't happen very fast even with butane lighters, paper, or those wood/wax fire starters I've used successfully outside in my fire pit. But, with just a small squirt of this gel, it covers, and SURROUNDS a few of the pellets and lights them instantly. By the way, I did order a replacement ignitor but the gel will due while we wait. FYI I attached a little video showing how quickly this gel lights my pellet stove.

I tried One Match because it was less expensive than the other products that I have tried in the past. Big Mistake! I was very disappointed in the product.

As you may or may not (as I did not) know, you should not use Windex or any other conventional glass cleaner for shower and fireplace glass (which has a film on it that would be removed by Windex).

This stuff is hard to find in retail stores (learned about it from my fireplace person) but definitely worth the search: it does the job beautifully!)

I needed to clean a pellet stove window and read the review by the person who suggested using ash and water. I tried this and it works very well. I was able to clean the glass very well by using paper towels, a little water and a little ash. No need to buy this cleaner. The ash method actually works and works very well.

Dampen a paper towel with water, dip into the ash and rub on the glass, the blackness will come right off. Repeat until clear. I kid you not, I have tried so many cleaners and this works the best by far! How cheap it that!

Honest reviews on Rutland Fireplace Glass Cleaner

This product doesn't work well on wood stove glass. Use Rutland Inc Glass Cleaner, works great. This stuff was a waste.

Product does a good job removing layers of soot from fireplace windows. Still have to scrub and go over the windows several time.

We've been running this heater for about a month now, and it works very well.

Here's what we love about it:

-It was incredibly easy to set up just pull it out of the box, plug it in, and go!

-It looks and feels solid and sturdy.

-It heats very well. In less than an hour, it can raise the temp in our large living room from 65 degrees to 70 or higher, even on a very chilly day.

-Sides and top of the heater stay cool to the touch great for kids and pets, as well as clumsy adults.

-The "flames" are not truly realistic, but they are cheerful and fun.

-The heater includes a remote control that is about the size of a playing card, very clearly labeled and very easy to use. Flames can be turned on, up, or off independent of heat, the thermostat can be adjusted, and the unit has a timer. An easy-to-read LED display on the heater confirms selections, then disappears again after a moment.

-Sturdy wheels make it easy to move from place to place, even on carpet.

Here's what keeps it from being a 5-star unit, in our opinion:

-It is pretty loud, similar to a range hood or bathroom fan running on high speed. I suppose a strong fan is needed to heat 1000 sq ft, but it can be a little distracting and annoying when you are near it.

-The thermostat is usually accurate, but not always. Some chilly mornings, it will turn itself off like it has reached the set temperature even when it has not. Cranking it up higher is a quick fix, but means having to come back and turn it down later, because we don't *really* want a 76 degree room! Other times, it keeps running even when the thermostat on the wall says (and we feel) it has warmed past it's shut off point. Again, it can be turned off manually, but this inconsistency makes me nervous about running it when we can't watch it closely.

-All of the heat blows from the small vent in the front of the top 1/4 of the heater the section above the line of wooden trim on the front. This narrow band of warm, forceful air means the heater is not especially satisfying to stand or sit near when coming in from the cold, or for the pets to lie in front of. I'm sure this is the safest design, but it would be lovely if it gave off some ambiant heat around the unit.

All in all, though, it is a high quality unit that warms the house quickly and efficiently. We enjoy it, and do not regret the purchase at all.

The seller was fantastic. He made sure the heater was perfect. The item was sent quickly, was exactly as pictured, and really works!! And it did not trip my electric breakers. I am totally pleased. It started up immediately, and I know it will do the job.

I have bought several room heaters over the years, but this is by far the best. No worries about tip overs or safety issues. It is well worth the price. I have bought several small heaters over the years and they never last. I love the flame feature because I can't have a real fireplace. The unit is also nice looking and easy to move. If you are considering one of these you won't be disappointed. Others complained about the noise, but it really isn't that noticeable. It is definitely not as loud as a fan running even on low, which drives me nuts.

We had no trouble setting it up. We keep it on while preparing to go to sleep and when we awaken in the morning.

I have a 900+ sq foot basement with 8 ft ceilings. I've had this heater for about a week. I am absolutely amazed at how comfortable and warm the entire space is now. It's in the low thirties outside, and my entire basement with the new heater is in the low seventies, a good 10+ degrees higher than before. The unit is very quiet, clicks once in a while to regulate temps. So easy to use and set up. I'm just so happy that I actually WANT to go down to the basement now and hang out WITHOUT my scarf. The flame is very realistic my son and his friend thought this heater was a real wood stove. The box says pennies a day to operate, I hope that's true. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product it will improve your quality of life.

The only down side I had to buy a wine cooler so my wines won't go bad because of the higher temperatures. :)

This Stove packs a punch! It heats my 1200 sq. ft. Apartment great! Plus it looks very realistic! I have other family members who have eden pure infrared heaters, that work just as good, but don't look as good as this one. I love that all the controls are behind the door, so little one's cant mess with them. Very quality construction. The only thing I don't like, is the temperature control, it doesn't tell what temp it's set at, so I have to guess where to set it, but I can live with that one flaw, since it looks so good!

Got this for my garage to use in the winter I turned it on and BAMM!!! heat that warmed the area so well and it looks really cool, the flame control and light control are nothing but to entertain you but its great to look it and its not all plastic, the outside is a metal, only the legs are plastic. I hate that it is a "American" looking stove but made in China but its really nice 5 stars from me. I had been looking at some other styles but this one really caught my eye and I was not disappointed at all.

Honest reviews on Redcore S2 IR Stove Heater

Got unit, put it in an 8X10 bedroom with door closed to heat for guests. Was on for an hour, using high button and thermostat turned up full throttle, absolutely NO change in temp. Has nice flames but didn't change room temp at all. Very disappointed. Got out small bathroom heater, the portable types. In 15 mins, the room was warmed. I have two other electric stoves, one purchased on amazon...an electrolog which isn't made anymore evidently, but it still works great. And also a plow and hearth brand small capacity that is charming. Thought an infrared would be a great new choice. Very disappointed as I am out shipping to get it here and probably to send it back. Awaiting response from vendor, but would highly recommend that you seek other brand. Other reviewer must have one that isn't defective, I certainly got a dud. Shipping back rate made no sense to return as price more than double that of original shipping paid to receive, vendor return address where return would be made they use different warehouses than their locale, and if it wasn't deemed deflective, then a restocking rate applies from vendor. Note to shoppers, read vendor guidelines carefully before purchasing from 3rd party vendor here.

Just made the 90144 rack with a shelf. I wanted an 8 ft. rack, and felt this would provide a sturdier result than just using unsupported uprights. The two kits were only $20, plus 8 pressure treated 2x4s. I did add 8 Simpson metal braces between the base and the uprights, which improved stability. The rack is very solid, and in my opinion, a good product. That being said, my favorite rack is the Woodhaven. I have several, varying from 5' to 12'. If money is no object, they are definitely more solid, and I highly recommend them. However, I need several more racks, and money is definitely a factor in my case. It took a little longer to assemble the 2x4 Basics rack, but it turned out fine. I have also used another plastic rack, but do feel this one is sturdier. For me the low price, relative ease of assembly, and very good result merited the four star rating. It actually took me nearly as long to assemble the Woodhavens, and considerably more $$. Maybe I should have titled this "2x4 Basics, the one to buy when you're having more than one."

I ordered two kits for this wood rack specifically because of the low maintenance I did switch out the screws included in the package for outdoor deck screws to reduce the risk of rust further. I like the fact that I can construct it to any size I want or need and (other than the screws) it's made completely of sturdy plastic and pressure treated lumber. I created a double decker (using the two kits), but kept it at 4 feet tall (required 10 pressure treated 2x4's) and included a second center beam across each deck even though the instructions called for only one. There are preset screw holes to allow for four 2x4's across each level and that adds to the rigidity of the rack when under a load.

One thing I do have to say is if you're planning on building your rack fairly wide (e.g. 8 feet or so), then order one extra kit. When loading the rack you do notice that the center of the lower shelf does sag if it's not supported. An extra kit would give you one more support to add in the center of the bottom shelf (where most all the load is) to eliminate that sagging. At this point I'm just going to place a brick or two under the center of the rack to raise it up to level (instead of ordering another kit, unstacking the wood, tearing it down, and adding an additional brace). Had I known it would sag this much, I would have planned ahead and ordered a third kit in advance.

Best Deals for 2x4basics 90144 Firewood Rack System, Black

I bought two kits to make a 4' high by 8' wide rack, to hold about a third of a cord of wood. It's very easy and fairly economical to make the rack, but the big problem is that once it's loaded with firewood, the whole thing sags in the middle under the weight. It's the 2x4s that are sagging, not this product itself, but it's sold as a solution to make a rack of this size so I expected it to work. Now I have to come up with a solution to lift the middle of the rack and I'll probably have to remove all of the wood before I can modify the rack. I'd say this is a better solution for a 4 foot wide rack.

Honest reviews on 2x4basics 90144 Firewood Rack System, Black

If you have *never* built anything before, this is a good starter project. Basically, you drive screws into predrilled holes and make cuts according to the instructions. Done and done. I made three of these a year ago. After a year, this is my report.

1) Filling these racks with a face cord of wood will sag the centers; 2x4s do not have the rigidity to withstand this weight for long. Be smart and place bricks or stone under the centers.

2) The weight of a face cord will force the sides apart, and the recommended screws won't cut it. The pressure will be lateral from the top, down, so buy a 5/16" long drill bit, four 6" 5/16" galvanized bolts, four 5/16" galvanized washers and nuts. Drive in the screws as directed, but then drill a center hole through the top joins, and bolt it so the extra bolt material faces inside the rack. This significantly strengthens it for a year. I did this for a repair and it's easily the best method for the money.

3) Paint your lumber after making the cuts. Your wood rack will be exposed to the elements, and if you do not want to keep building these every two-three years, treat your lumber. Paint is a cheap solution for this. You can maybe get five-eight years now, instead of three-five.

4) Once you see the effect the plastic forms have, and the role they play, you can probably build a rack on your own using metal brackets or just wood with bolts. Keep in mind that wood on ground leads to rot, so think about how you're going to get the rack off the ground. Bricks are a fine idea, so are cheap patio pavers.

5) Get used to spiders and termites finding your wood. Knock wood before bringing it to your fireplace. That cracking and popping in the fire? Insects.

-C

This rack system does make the job of building a firewood rack a bit easier, but it has some drawbacks. It's super simple to put together cut 2x4s to the right length, screw the base 2x4s (3 of them) to the brackets and then stick in the vertical pieces. Easy, huh? Well, the main problem I found is that the holes for the vertical 2x4s are a tad too big, so they wobble around and lean to the side. I used treated 2x4s that are slightly bigger than non-treated, but they still wobbled. The one screw they supply to hold a vertical in place just doesn't do the trick. Instead I went to my nearby hardware store and got some 90-degree corner braces which I screwed to both the base 2x4s and the verticals. That helped a lot. Not sure if I would buy this system again. But it did help me build an odd-sized rack that fits the space I have perfectly.
