This is the second one I've purchased for my grill. Product is well built, does not shed wire and does an excellent job cleaning the grill. The first one lasted a very long time in comparison to other grill brushes I've purchased. I recommend this one and will purchase it again when this one gives up the ghost.

World Marketing/Kozy World Model # KWN321 Wall Heater - Natural Gas/Infrared Vent Free ~ 30,000 BTU's

I have one of these to heat up a space that is pretty drafty, solid stone little living area. Wood is free on my land (lots of dead trees) but I wanted something that would be positive, not negative for ventilation. (Wood burns, needs air, air goes up chimney, cold outside air comes into house, repeat.). So I put this backed up after sealing the fireplace as soon as the temperature drops enough.

This heater works great. My notes are:

1.) First firing: this will get hot and you'll smell a strange smell. That's normal, you are smelling the coatings used to protect it.

2.) After hooking it up, you *are* going to have air in the line. So be patient with starting as it needs to purge since the pilot uses hardly anything. You only have so much life in that ignitor.

3.) Get the fan unit. It's worth it. The grease in the bearings seems to wear out; after the 3rd year I had to remove it and use some 3-in-1 on the bearing. (barely moving/slow to speed up when cold). So if wall-mounting this, do so with the mindset that in a few years you may need to take it off again.

4.) You *can* make this portable if you get an LP gas regulator (similar to one used on RV's, visit a shop or look online) and good rubber LP hose. Just use common sense and get a length so the tank and hose are not near nor routed near anything where they can get hot.

5.) The feet shouldn't cost that much, but they do, and are flimsy to boot so watch out; don't over-tighten, don't leave them loose, use oversized nylon washers if you got 'em laying around somewhere. After one started to crack I made my own set out of rolling casters and metal legs from an old desk chair that was trash-bound. Bad mold design and brittle (when cold) for lateral movement, could've been avoided with "X" inserts. If you aren't moving it much for cleaning or anything, they'll do.

6.) The ceramic will get brittle with age and moisture. Ceramic is fragile.

7.) If you have a ceiling fan set it to the winter setting, this thing pumps out lots of hot air via convection as well as radiant heat.

8.) If you wall mount this, when not in use my advice is to shut off the gas to it completely (after that, let the pilot run out) and put a cover over it. If portable and disconnected, just throw a large trashbag over/around it and stuff a little bit of plastic in the gas inlet. Mounted or portable, anything to keep moisture, dust, bugs etc. out; spiders will hole up everywhere.

9.) For an idea of fuel usage: I ran this test twice. First for burn-in in a garage, second just for the heck of it the next year. I hooked this up to a 20lb (5 gal) propane tank (filled by someone in front of me, you only get 4 gallons in the "exchange" ones at stores) and let 'er rip till it ran out. I got just a hair under 24 hours of continuous use. At anywhere between $2-$4 per gallon for LP (depending on where you live), you can do the math, but roughly this will be hitting your wallet within the range of $0.75/hr. That's for the 30k BTU, but I don't really think it's truly 30k. Maybe when it's operating in 70f ambient; the ceramics don't really get to optimum temp at *really* cold temperatures.

Definitely worth the price, definitely a solid unit. If you take care of it this will bring warmth into your heart and home for a long time.

On my 4th day with heater set up in a 2,500 sq ft open basement. Heater throws plenty of heat, radiant and convective. This time of year, basement is about 61F with no heat. Most I have run heater is 5 hours at full blast and two thermometers about 8 ft away and out of line of sight (radiant works) registered 70F. I suspect If I left it on "HI" (30,000 btu) and used a fan to circulate air, it would heat the entire basement, (which I don't need) to 70+.

While heater is inexpensive, plumber bill was $545 to hook it to gas line with 20ft of flexible gas hose and all the fittings required, including those to connect to heater. Pilot lit at first "click" and heater operates at three settings: 6,000, 18,000 and 30,000 btu. The settings light independent burner elements and instructions say NOT to try to operate between settings.

Don't buy the advertised feet for floor setting. Gas hookup is vertical thru bottom and extends about 6 inches out of bottom (with required sediment sump and shutoff valve). I used two 8x8x16 concrete blocks ($1.42 each) which work fine for basement.

What instructions don't say is that carbon dioxide (CO2)is a principal product of natural gas combustion. I bought the SUPCO IAQ50 co2 meter(on Amazon) and the Kidde KN-COPP-3 carbon monoxide (CO) meter. Heater may produce CO (a stealth killer)when not burning properly. CO meter has not budged....reading zero at startup and zero 5 hours later. However, carbon dioxide reading went from 465 parts per million (ppm) at startup to 3,668 ppm after 5 hours on highest output. I read on internet OSHA max for residential house is 5,000ppm, 30,000ppm make most sick and 40,000 ppm = get the hell outta there. CO2 meter is about 8 ft from heater, out of line of sight.

According to owner's booklet, water vapor output is about 1 ounce per 1,000 btu of gas input. So, when burning 30,000 btus per hour, you are putting 30 ounces of water into the air per hour. On two separate hygrometers about 8 ft from heater relative humidity at 61F was 40% before start. After 5 hours on HI, it was 50% at 70F. Doesn't bother me because I have a dehumidifier to the side of the heater if I want to bring humidity down.

CO2 is a concern to me. I'll be keeping an eye on the meter (which sounds an alarm if a set ppm is exceeded). I think this heater is too big for a small room, while it heats my office space in an open 2,500 sq ft basement just fine. I turned it off at 70 F because CO2 was over 3,600 ppm and I was warm enough.

JAN 4, 2012 FOLLOW-UP: It was 13F with 20mph wind outside this morning and 58F in basement. Turned heater on full blast when CO2 meter read 456 ppm. Two hours later, office space was 69F with CO2 at 1895 ppm. After 10 hours on highest setting, office space at 71F, CO2 at 3090 ppm. Temp at other end of basement, about 40 feet from heater, is 68F. Water vapor not a problem. Relative humidity at 30% after 10 hours on high. Carbon monoxide meter has not budged off zero. CO2 no longer concerns me. Pilot lights on first click every time. I love this heater for its intended purpose. Now 5 stars from me.

As everyone else said, this thing does its job well....it makes a cold room warm. Peroid. The look of it is much better suited for a garage or workshop not inside a home. (but, of course, this is an opinion)

One thing that is nice to know is that the lowest setting on this uses 7,000 BTU's, so plan accordingly. Get the right size for your room, do not get a larger one just because it is only $20 more or so.

Installation is easy, they give you all the screws, and you can even hang it only on sheetrock if you have no studs available. It only weighs 29lbs or so.

No gas line is included with this, and the input size thread is 3/8".

Honest reviews on World Marketing/Kozy World Model # KWN321 Wall Heater - Natural

I've recently been looking for ways for my family to trim its budget. I bought a few books on weatherproofing your house, and as I read these books I realized that since we moved into an old 3000 square foot house 18 months ago our electricity bills have been through the roof both in the summer and winter months.

Our house actually had 1 gas log natural gas heater, but we needed another one to heat the other side of the house. After a lot of investigation, I chose the Kozy World KWN321 because it had a great price for a vent-free natural gas heater that had a lot of BTUs (30,000). Also, I measured carefully, and it fit perfectly into the other fireplace we had but which had been without a heater in it when we moved in.

We just recently received it and have had a few very cold days (at least cold to us down in Texas). This heater has worked beautifully! It's easy to use, starts putting out heat immediately, and provides heat for a large portion of the house if we leave it on high. It even got the house so warm that I had to turn it down off of high and down to medium, and then low. The 3 different settings allow you to use only as much energy as you want. I haven't had time to check my gas bill yet, but I know it will be a lot cheaper than my electricity bill at this time last year.

The Kozy World KWN321 is a great long-term investment if your house has a place for a vent-free natural gas heater. I highly recommend it, especially if you want to save on your winter energy bills year after year.

Wonderful hotspot in the kitchen to cozy up against while my big ole house in south-west Ohio stays cool in the winter.

This is a great heater, it uses natural gas, which is mostly CH4, and goes to CO2 and 2H2O (carbon dioxide and water (vapor)). It is NOT vented so these exhaust gases remain inside. The water vapor could make real problems in your house so you have to be careful about this. These heaters also burn the little dust particles in your air so the room will start to smell a little. I am certain there is also a little bit of CO, or carbon monoxide but I have used this heater for a year and similar ones for years and have never had a problem. I do have a CO monitor in the room where this heater operates but it always reads 0.0.

This was so much cheaper through Amazon, arrived in time (I ordered it RIGHT before Christmas), and is very sturdy and attractive. I have three curious cats, and they have yet (almost a year since I bought it) to knock it over! Just make sure you are consistent in which side you pick for the bottom, because if you have a brick hearth, it will scratch up the finish a bit when you move it around. As long as you don't flip it, it shouldn't matter.

This picture is NOTHING like the screen I received! The one i recieved is a dull, black finish and does not even stand level when unfolded I also recieved no paperwork or invoice of any kind with the package. I contacted Amazon for refund instructions and the email from Wayfair was for me to send them a picture (of their product!!!) and model #. I responded I didn't have access to a camera to send them a photo of their own product and since there was no paper work included I was only guessing the model # was what was stamped on the outside of the shipping carton. Within a week, I had recvieved no response to the email but to my surprise received another dull black screen...this one did include an invoice. I again contacted Amazon totally frustrated due to lack of response to my first email and also now I had 2 screens I didn't want. I did receive a prompt response from Wayfair after the second email and they also sent a shipping label so I did not need to pay to return it and was told if I didn't hear from the warehouse within 3 weeks to keep the first screen. I have received my refund but would not recommend this product at all due to inferior quality and looking absolutely nothing like the advertisted picture.

This arrived about a week earlier that I expected and it was completely intact and ready to use. I was expecting to have to assemble the panels or return a dented, uneven screen. It was well packaged and all I had to do was wipe it down with a damp cloth (it was covered with a rusty dust). It looks great and was well worth the price. The only drawback is that it was made in China...but I couldn't find a screen that wasn't!

I looked on line and in the common stores for a large fire pit that would allow bigger fires and still meet local fire codes for fully covered and contained burning and opted for the Landmann Ball of Fire for several reasons. First, it was at a great price for $189 free delivery, second it was solidly built, third you could open it up and add wood and keep the cover closed to contain embers and debris (some of the other fire pits said not to put the wire mesh cover on them while burning your fire... huh?), forth the shape was nice since I put limestone rocks around the base to make it look built in and add stability. The fire ball is deep enough to allow for small logs, but the viewing space allows you to have smaller fires that are still visible 360 degrees. All in all assembly was easy to do and it came with a free cover to keep it protected from the rain/snow. Very nice and highly recommended!

First, the pros: it's a great looking, easy to use, warmth giving fireplace. We used it the very first day we got it and enjoyed it immensely. I'd give it 5 stars if it weren't for the following cons, which have nothing to do with its performance.

The cons: It was missing the poker and it was missing the assembly instructions. Although we didn't particularly need the poker, we most definitely needed the assembly instructions. We went through every piece of paper and styrofoam in the box and they were simply missing. The internet came to the rescue and we downloaded and printed a set.

Originally, it appeared that some of the screws and nuts were missing. But, when we had finally unwrapped everything, including the handles that you assemble late in the process, we found more screws and nuts already mounted (which you have to unmount). In fact, most of the screws and nuts came in bags but they came screwed together, which is of no use and is ultimately a time-waster, since you've got to unscrew them all from one another to use them. Although some of the screws and nuts came assembled to the larger sections of the fireplace, we found several just floating around in the styrofoam when we were looking for the manual. I suspect that they had originally been attached to one of the rings or handles and worked themselves loose during shipping. They're easy to miss, so make sure to inspect everything before you toss out the packaging.

Because of the size and heft of the assembled pieces, this is a two person job. It all fit together reasonably well, but getting the last few screws and holes to line up was difficult since there was little play left in the metal pieces.

Also just wanted to echo a previous reviewer who said that you need to have sand for the bowl. That is indeed what the manual indicates, so we bought three one-pound bags of horticultural sand at the local hardware store. I think five pounds will probably be ideal, so we'll probably add a couple more soon.

Listen guys, my back yard continues to be the place for my buddies and family to come in the coldest days here in NC to sit in front of the pit and enjoy a GREAT fire and some good southern grilling. The unit itself came in solid in the box, and everything was fine until we started assembling it an realized that they sent us 2 of the same panels. Hence, I drilled 2 holes and it was done. Due to the extensive use of this product, the hinges that open the lid with have to be replaced with steel but they are holding up so far. Again, I doubt anyone is putting this much wood through this pit like I am, am an outdoorsman and prefer to be in the cold burning a fire than looking at TV. When I say that we burn wood, I mean we burn wood. All of my buddies have pits and they said that this one is absolutely awesome. To give you guys an idea, we go out on Saturday and literally cut a tree a week, for all of us to replenish our supply. I'd say at least 4 times a week am burning my pit outdoors. You can put huge logs into this thing, without any problems at all. On weekends we go through at least 100 logs without any problems because the wood is still moist, and it take more wood to keep our circle of friends enjoying the heat from all the coals.

This is my first review of many products that I have begun purchasing with Amazon. I got this pit for 179.00 about 4 month to this writing. And although am starting to see some rust from the original paint, it's because I did not use the cover due to having a bloodhound puppy in the yard that right now is destroying anything it can find. In summer when I give it a break I will paint it, replace the hinges, and get it ready for next season or for chilled summer nights. I saw the low scores on this one, and they are absolutely out of their minds on this product, maybe they just could not get around doing some minor things to it, but for me it was no prob at all to work on it.

2 of my buddies are saving up just to get this pit. BUY this product with confidence! Even though they missed matched one of the panels. Am giving this product a 5plus due to the amount of enjoyment that my family and friends have had with it. Remember to start your fire, and then setup the logs straight up tepee style with a 1/4 inch gap between logs even when adding new ones to let the coal feel the oxygen so that the logs light up faster; and you will be moving away from the heat trust me. My buddies bought some of the other pits here, and their wives never came out in the cold; with this pit there sitting outside in the coldest of days with a pad to warm up theirs buns :) us guys just get up and turn around. When this pit gets hot hot, it turns red with the amount of logs we put into it. The kids well they just put there hotdogs on a long S steal stick and cook them charbroil right of the pit. Enjoy this product as much as we have, it's worth the money even at the current price. Peace.

Honest reviews on Landmann USA 28925 Ball of Fire Outdoor Fireplace

In honor of Earth Day (April 22, 2011), Al Gore and saving the planet from global warming... I decided to help clean up mother earth by raking up a small portion of my yard's pine needles to fill and test out my newly assembled BALL OF FIRE. My only complaints are that Landmann apparently tried to help me by pre-assembling 6 of the approximately 50 nuts and bolts (the rest they decided to thankfully securely package). Thanks to the HDS Delivery Man, those 6 nuts and bolts managed to shake themselves lose and fall out of the half ripped open box during transit to my location. Of course I could not return it for such simpleton reasons because my celebration countdown was already underway. Nor was I dumb enough to buy the minimum replacement quantity of 250 nuts/bolts from my local hardware store, so I nagged my neighbor who saved me from calling the manuals 1-800 'please call us and don't return it' support by utter patience line. Anyways, what really drew my attention to this product was the name BALL OF FIRE, which I have been known for previously making. My Californian neighbors with dirty looks always seem to freak out around FIRE so I was pleased to be the new owner of a patio firepit nearly 3 times as tall as my previous neighborhood device of terror. So check out my picture I posted. Yeah, mine is THE BALL OF FIRE unlike the other posted photos... and by the way a big philips head screw driver and a long head socket set, ratchet and about 1-2 hours of boredom will help you assemble the kit. ENJOY :-)

We've been running this heater for about a month now, and it works very well.

Here's what we love about it:

-It was incredibly easy to set up just pull it out of the box, plug it in, and go!

-It looks and feels solid and sturdy.

-It heats very well. In less than an hour, it can raise the temp in our large living room from 65 degrees to 70 or higher, even on a very chilly day.

-Sides and top of the heater stay cool to the touch great for kids and pets, as well as clumsy adults.

-The "flames" are not truly realistic, but they are cheerful and fun.

-The heater includes a remote control that is about the size of a playing card, very clearly labeled and very easy to use. Flames can be turned on, up, or off independent of heat, the thermostat can be adjusted, and the unit has a timer. An easy-to-read LED display on the heater confirms selections, then disappears again after a moment.

-Sturdy wheels make it easy to move from place to place, even on carpet.

Here's what keeps it from being a 5-star unit, in our opinion:

-It is pretty loud, similar to a range hood or bathroom fan running on high speed. I suppose a strong fan is needed to heat 1000 sq ft, but it can be a little distracting and annoying when you are near it.

-The thermostat is usually accurate, but not always. Some chilly mornings, it will turn itself off like it has reached the set temperature even when it has not. Cranking it up higher is a quick fix, but means having to come back and turn it down later, because we don't *really* want a 76 degree room! Other times, it keeps running even when the thermostat on the wall says (and we feel) it has warmed past it's shut off point. Again, it can be turned off manually, but this inconsistency makes me nervous about running it when we can't watch it closely.

-All of the heat blows from the small vent in the front of the top 1/4 of the heater the section above the line of wooden trim on the front. This narrow band of warm, forceful air means the heater is not especially satisfying to stand or sit near when coming in from the cold, or for the pets to lie in front of. I'm sure this is the safest design, but it would be lovely if it gave off some ambiant heat around the unit.

All in all, though, it is a high quality unit that warms the house quickly and efficiently. We enjoy it, and do not regret the purchase at all.

I have bought several room heaters over the years, but this is by far the best. No worries about tip overs or safety issues. It is well worth the price. I have bought several small heaters over the years and they never last. I love the flame feature because I can't have a real fireplace. The unit is also nice looking and easy to move. If you are considering one of these you won't be disappointed. Others complained about the noise, but it really isn't that noticeable. It is definitely not as loud as a fan running even on low, which drives me nuts.

I was a little dissapointed in the looks of the item. I expected more than the plain unfinished edge of a thin pressed wood plaque (and what is chromaluxe, anyway?) and cheap paint job for that price. I ended up buying stickers at Michaels craft store to cover up the flower decorations to dress it up a bit.

Cheap Thermal Switch Can be used with Fireplace Blowers for automatic

Thermal Switch Can be used with Fireplace Blowers for automatic blower operation # 19-SF2-115

This little thing works just as advertised. Hooked it up electrically in-line with the blower in the fireplace, and now the blower only comes on when the fireplace warms up (no more blowing cold air), and then after the fire is turned off, the blower stays on until the fireplace is cooled down.

I found some surplus neo-magnets at an office supply and crazy-glued them to the side tabs. That way, I could mount the switch, without drilling holes, to the bottom of the fireplace (actually, the inside top of the blower cavity).

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I have two Napoleon gas fireplaces in my home. The newer gas fireplace came with a thermoswitch to automatically turn on the blower when the fireplace gets hot. The older gas fireplace had a blower but it did not come with a thermoswitch. The automatic blower is a very handy feature. I wanted to upgrade my older gas fireplace to have this feature.

My local Napoleon dealer wanted $35 for a new thermoswitch. Amazon had a much better price. The only difficulty with the 19-SF2-115 switch is that it "turns on" at a lower temperature (110F) than the one supplied by Napoleon (120F).

I first tried installing this switch it to the side of the fireplace box (same location as my newer gas fireplace). The problem with this location, is that the sheet metal box stays warm at this location for a long time, even after the fireplace flame is turned off. I discovered that the blower would stay on for 3-4 hours after the flame turned off. This is probably why Napoleon uses a 120F switch instead of the 110F switch. By the way, the 120F thermoswitch switch takes a good 15 minutes to turn on.

By experimentation, I discovered that if I mounted the 110F thermoswitch on the sheet metal air deflector directly above the fireplace box (see attached photos), the blower starts approximately 2 minutes after the flame turns on and shuts off approimately 8 minutes after the flame turns off. It is the perfect location for this switch!

The switch is held in place by two magnets that I epoxied on to the sheet metal tabs on the switch (see attached photo). I wired the thermoswitch directly into the 110VAC blower circuit using a total of 8 feet of 250C high temperature wire (available on Amazon and the major auction site).

As a point of interest, I also have the gas valves on both gas fireplaces connected to a "millivolt" thermostat located on the other side of the room. The thermostat turns on and off the gas fireplace to maintain the temperature of the room. I set the thermostat in my basement to about 65F. It works very nicely to take the "chill" out of the basement.

Summary: The switch works well, but some experimentation with the location may be required.

Hope this review helps!

This switch works as designed and has an appropriate temperature range.

What is special is not so much the item, but the wisdom and advice of the seller.

My gas Fireplace had a number of design faults since new five years ago.

One of the issues was the fan control. The original supplied thermoswitch did not cut the fan in until 207 degrees F. The original switch was not fixed (You can not drill in a fire box). So the original unit flopped about above the box. Eventually the plastic insulators over the connectors crumbled due to heat, the switch moved and shorted against the fire box. In a shower of sparks the switch and solid state fan controller were blown and the breaker tripped at the panel.

I followed this sellers advice and used his switch that cuts in at 115 degrees F. I used the heat shrink over the connectors as extra protection.

The really brilliant piece of his advice was to use powerful small rare Earth magnets to secure the thermoswitch to an ideal location above the fire box in the airstream. Now this gas fireplace works better than ever.

So before you purchase this unit look at his installation advice and his pictures.

Unit is fine but nothing special about it. His advice free but priceless. Thank you!

We bought this heater to use in our living room and kitchen/dining area. We have all baseboard heat and our heating bills are usually through the roof. This heater does a good job and we are very happy, but there are a few things to point out.

1. It is a smaller heater than you might expect. It is half the price of an eden pure...but be advised that it's about half the size of the eden pure my parents have. That said, I think I'd rather have two of these than one eden pure that way I can space them out more.

2. This thing won't heat a 1000 sq/ft area. We use it in a 250-300 sq/ft living room that has an opening to our kitchen dining room that is about 250 sq/ft. It will heat up the room and maintain when it is as cold as the 20's outside...colder than that and we need to use our baseboard w/ this heater to get it up to temp (in about 10 minutes mind you)...and then this heater will do a great job of maintaining that heat on it's own. We did this down to about 4-5 degrees(F) outside and it worked great.

3. Haven't got a clue on heating bill, but it does draw some serious current. I have blown our breaker more than once by using this heater and our vacuum on the same outlet (always forget the heater is on...see 4)

4. Heater is very quiet and you won't even realize the thing is on except for seeing the orange glow back inside of the heater.

5. The wheels are awesome. We usually heat the living room for a few hours, then wheel it into the kitchen dining room for 20 minutes, then back for a couple hours.....super easy to do as you walk by and keeps both rooms at a comfy 71-74 degrees.

Bottom line is it is a great heater. It is drawing a lot of current but probably not more than 2 baseboard heaters that we virtually don't use now.....which have their own breaker each. I'd recommend it highly as it really gives you the cozy feeling that you don't get with those heaters that heat the air....compared to this one that heats you and the objects in the room. You can really tell the difference.

...you need to invest a little time in thinking about 1) what it is you want it to do and, 2) coming to grips with what it is actually capable of.

A lot of people buy this heater (24%) after looking at the EdenPure portable electric space heater. I am guessing that those who do are looking to save about fifty bucks over the cost of the EdenPure and believe (correctly) that it is a virtual replica of the EdenPure. And that would be just wonderful if the EdenPure portable electric space heater (and this one) lived up to the hype that surrounds it. The problem is neither one does...they are both being promoted with false premises.

In fact, some claims are pure lies. Take this one: "Testing shows, the Dr. HeaterTM has 60% more heat output compared to most other heaters on the market." Ask yourself, what testing and compared to what heaters? You should be highly suspicious anytime a claim such as this is made without reference to the actual testing. Who did the testing? When was the testing done? What heaters were tested in comparison to this one? Odds are that there was never any testing done because the claim they are making is ridiculous. Here's why: Electric heat is electric heat no matter how you slice it or dice it. The only way that a 1500 watt electric heater can have 60% more heat output than "most other heaters on the market" is if "most other heaters" are rated at 938 watts. Period. End of story. It doesn't matter how the electric heat is produced or delivered, if the wattage rating is the same then the heat output is the same.

The makers of this heater also throw around mysterious science sounding stuff like "PTC." So just what is PTC? It stands for positive temperature coefficient and that sounds pretty high tech, too, doesn't it? So what is it? It is a ceramic heating element that is designed to heat to a specific temperature and varies the wattage consumed in order to maintain that temperature. In other words, it's self regulating. That's actually a nice feature and a big improvement over the stupid light bulb in copper pipe design that is employed by the EdenPure. (EDIT: Oops, just noticed that Dr. Heater uses quartz light bulbs with a PTC element so they are nearly as dumb as EdenPure) But does it justify spending two hundred bucks (or more) on the Dr. Heater? Well that depends on what your heating goals are. Let's explore that a little more...

First of all the only way that this heater (or the EdenPure) is going to save you any money at all on your utility bill is if you change your lifestyle. If you, like most of us, live in a house with multiple rooms then you need to realize that this heater is designed to heat ONE room. And, depending on the climate in your location, that might turn out to be a pretty small room. And while this is going on the rest of the house is going to be colder, maybe a lot colder. If you can make it through the winter living in one room in your house then this might be the heater for you. Most of us, however, move about the house from room to room and we enjoy doing so in relative comfort. A portable electric space heater (regardless of brand name) is not going to heat your entire house. And if you did put an electric space heater in enough rooms to make the house comfortable you would absolutely freak out when the electric bill comes due.

Here is a little math to explain that:

Let's say that you have a 10 cent per kilowatt utility rate. Let's also say that the heater is on 50% of the time. There are 720 hours in a thirty day month so that would be 360 hours for 50% operation. 1500 watts x 360 hours is 540 kilowatt hours. Multiply that against a ten cent rate and you get 54 bucks. Think about that for a second or two: 54 bucks to heat ONE room in your house for a month. And remember, that is assuming that it's only on for half the time. What if it's on for 2/3's of the time? Or 3/4's of the time? Yikes! Not good, campers, not good at all. And holy cow, what if you live in New England where it's cold AND the electric rate is over 15 cents a KWH? Double yikes! This is why (with the exception of heat pumps) electricity based heating is your worst heating value. Always has been and always will be.

And if you do live in a place that gets really cold then this "heat one room" strategy could blow up in your face if it results in a frozen and broken water pipe in an area that you aren't heating properly. This could happen quite easily if the electric heater is in or near the same room that the whole house furnace thermostat is in.

So what's the bottom line? First of all remember that electricity is (usually but not always...see below) a terrible value in terms of heating. Then also remember that the only thing that counts with electric heaters is the wattage. The biggest electric heater that you can plug into a standard wall receptacle will be rated at 1500 watts and they all produce the same heat regardless of bogus claims made to the contrary. That is basic science. Third, ask yourself if you really want to live this way: A prisoner to the warmth in ONE room of your house. If these things are okay with you (and if you insist on spending two hundred bucks or more for the same heat that can be had for fifty bucks or less) then go for it. Just don't expect this portable electric space heater to keep your whole house comfortable (it won't) while simultaneously saving you bucket loads of money. It just isn't going to happen.

A better idea would be to invest some money in beefing up the insulation values in your home. Especially look at your floor. You would be surprised how many people live in a home (built over a ventilated crawl space) with an un-insulated floor. Take a look at sealing up cracks and crevices in exterior walls and around doors and windows where warm air leaks out and cold air can infiltrate. These fixes aren't particularly hard and after they are done they last forever. They aren't as sexy as magic electric heaters but they do work.

EDIT/UPDATE: See my comment (dated 3-7-2013 on page 15 of the comments for this review) where I discuss yet another alternative to the overpriced "magical" electric space heater, the PTHP. If you want to spend big bucks on an electrically powered heater then this is THE way to go. It's more than 100% efficient. Seriously, it really is. Best value out there for this sort of thing.

I received the DR Heater, and so far it is AWESOME. I had another brand of heater, and it's in the basement already. Quiet isn't quite the word for this heater. I have a propane gas insert for our fireplace. I thought it had a quiet fan, until I turned the DR Heater on. The fan in the gas insert drowns out the DR Heater fan. I had to put my ear down to it to tell if it was running or not. The heat output is exactly what they clame it to be. It has twice the features as the $400.00 unit. My house is well insulated, so I am not sure how it will work for everyone else. I can tell you that I highly recommend this Heater. It's should be a money saver. This is an update. Whats nice about this heater is the two types of heat output. This heater has only one bulb in it, so when the bulb goes bad, you still have heat output. I had the bulb go out, and the company sent me a replacement bulb. I received great support from DR Heater. Will buy another one.

I found that the heater generally does what it claims to do, except for the size of the room it is supposed to heat. We used it exclusively in our basement rec room and it had to struggle to get the room tempurature over 70 degrees running on high. Outside tempurature was normally in the mid thirties to the mid-forties. It ran very quietly, attractive and the remote system is great. The heater did not get hot, as advertised. It would probably work great in a smaller room such as a bedroom.

While I've only had this heater a few days, it's already become one of my most prized possessions. I've used it to heat both a fairly large area of around 500 sq ft and a single 10x12 room. I believe it may be able to replace all 5 of my 1500 watt oil filled radiator heaters. Running on "High" the electric consumption is about 1.2 Kilowatts per hour as the manufacturer says. This heater heats very evenly. For example if the heater thermometer is reading 65 degrees you can go to the far end of the heating area and get a 65 degree reading there with a digital thermometer. Another big plus it that this heater doesn't adversely affect the humidity. In the large area I started and ended with 47% humidity. In the 10x12 room I started with 47% and ended with 39%, which then recovered back to 47% after the heater shut down. As far as any beefs, it can take several hours to bring the large area up to room temperature, but once you get it there the heater will cycle on and off to keep it there.

I would like to offer a couple of pointers so that you will be able to really enjoy your infrared heater.

1. This heater is a heavy duty 110/120V device and just like your refrigerator it's needs to be on a dedicated circuit. This means that a single line needs to be run from the circuit breaker box to where this heater plugs in. This heater has a very sensitive overload switch, so if the electric line isn't a dedicated line the heater will just shut itself down after a few minutes of use when being used in "Auto Mode" or "High Manual Mode". You may be able to use it in "Low Manual Mode" if there isn't too many other electrical devices drawing current.

2. This heater should be elevated about 18 inches above the floor. As you recall from school, warm air rises. If the heater is placed at floor level then it may run for hours and never show a temperature higher than 50 degrees and never shut down. But if you elevate it you can monitor the rise in temperature visually and the heater will only run when it needs to.

Just what I wanted for our home. Simple, sleek, and functional. Stand works great and is very sturdy unlike so many that are top heavy and fall over with the tools.

No flimsy parts, well built...in China but can't beat the price for this set. Really happy that it does not have a wobbly base like most sets. Poker is good length as well, many times they are too long or to short. Looks great next to our wood burning stove

Honest reviews on Uniflame 5 Piece Black Wrought Iron Fireset with Center Weave

I originally bought this set for my son as a gift. My husband and I were so impressed with it, that we turned around and purchased one for ourselves. The set is very sturdy. It sits nicely on our hearth and does not "wobble" around. Our old set, which was a brass one with oak handles, was not nearly as sturdy as this set. (Our old set also cost significantly more than this set!) The wrought iron has a smooth finish to it; the center weave gives the set a nice look; and, the tools all look well made. So far, they have worked out great. (As a side note, for those buyers also interested in a log holder, we also bought the "Uniflame Black Wrought Iron Log Rack with Scrolls." It matches this tool set perfectly!)

The flames are extremely realistic and the unit itself is very good quality. I decided against wall mounting it and instead have it on a corner table which is perfect. Some people have complained about how much heat it puts out. To them I would say, if you're trying to heat 1000 s.f. with this little heater, you have other issues. For heating up a single room quickly, it definitely serves the purpose and I like being able to rotate through the Low heat, high heat and flame only options right from the remote. Four stars because you have no thermostatic control, which at this price point seems a little ridiculous. A cheaper model of this (with crappy looking flames to show for it) has a thermostatic control, why wouldn't this expensive one? Generally I'm happy with it and would buy it again. The same cannot be said for the Dimplex Convex unit you can read my review of that on here as well.

I bought this for my husband to use when we go camping. He has used it so far in our fireplace and loves it. It starts fires right away and will prove to be very handy at campsites.

Son-in-law used it where they park their trailer. Didn't work for them. Disappointed in the product. Don't like spending money on a 'good idea' product that has no value. They have a campfire every evening and since he is hard to buy for, I thought this would be great, but it is not.
