Just what I wanted. Good workmanship and materials. Highly recommend to all the do-it-yourselfers. Should outlast the wall it was built into.

I ordered two of these cast iron cleanout doors and they came much more quickly than I expected for something so heavy to ship. They installed as I expected and are of good quality. They solved my problem since the frames of the old doors in the base of my chimney in the basement had rotted out and let smoke from the fireplace flow down into the basement. I had to grind the opening in the brick slightly larger to accommodate the installation and mortared them in. I was a little worried that the shallow depth of the frame wouldn't hold well in the mortar, but it worked out quite well.

I did a lot of search before buying this Mantel. Worth the price. Looks really nice. Easy to install. This was the only Mantel available in 51 inches (height). The Mantel as such arrived well packed and protected.

I am giving 4 stars because the product do not contain L brackets (9 )and #6 1/2 inch screws (18) and 3 inch wood screws (3). Recommendation is to use 1/2 inch L bracket. But I had hard time finding them in stores. Finally picked up 3/4 inch L bracket from Lowes; put in the screws with a washer. Missing parts do not cost much, but was a hassle running through the stores, especially when you are in the middle of installation.

This is a pretty nice mantel with clean lines. It looks as pictured. It ended up not fitting over our fireplace (it fit exactly on top of the fireplace, but it needs to go slightly over the fireplace) and we had to return it. The return cost us $70. So, my advice is "make sure you know the exact size mantel you need before ordering."

I got this mantel a few months back. It was easy to install. It has a simple design, and fits well with the rest of the house. I would recommend it!

I bought this to install on top of the custom faux brick I installed on my fireplace. I had to research a way to extend the fireplace gas valve once I drilled a hole in the brick, then find a key that would fit through the adapter I ended up using. Most people don't know that these are British Parallel threads (most are 1/2" or 3/4"). Not the same as 3/4 NPT! I learned a lot about these things in the process. This one looks nice!

I needed a larger sized grate for my fireplace at a reasonable price and found one on this site.

Originally they shipped me a fireplace screen instead of the grate but a quick phone call had

it straightened out. The grate arrived quickly within a day or two. They provided a shipping

label for the screen. Customer service was excellent.

The grate has been awesome! We can now load more wood into the fireplace saving me extra

trips to the woodpile. Even though it is bigger than my previous grates there isn't a problem with

smoke which I was a bit concerned with. It fits perfectly in the fireplace. It's much sturdier than

my previous grates which means I will get more years out of it. My previous grates disintegrated

after 3-4 years of use. I highly recommend this product/company.

We used this grate to replace an old one in our Majestic pre-fab fireplace. It looked great, but somehow didn't hold the fire properly to prevent back draft and smoking up the house. I repaired the old grate and put it back in the fireplace, no smoke now.

This is a great kit. I'd brewed before and gave it up about five years ago. Knowing the process going in, I looked for a kit that had more than the starter kit. Inevitably, you start brewing with a bucket, make some good beer, get hooked and next thing you know you're spending more and more money getting a carboy, then a bigger carboy, then a brush, the list goes on and on.

When I set out to buy new equipment, this was the kit for me. It doesn't have EVERYTHING you'll want, but it covers all of the essentials that get pricy when purchased individually and allows you to have multiple batches going simultaneously. Since purchasing a month ago, my wife and I have just bottled our second batch and have a third in the secondary and a fourth in the primary. Perhaps that's overkill, but the hardest part about brewing is the waiting. With this kit, you more or less don't have to. The question now is, what are we going to do with 20 gallons of beer?? :)

Anyway, I definitely recommend this kit. If you love good beer and you've been thinking about brewing for a while, do it right from the get-go and spend a little more now to save a lot later.

Other recommendations:

Bottle Washer just get one. May need a $2.00 adapter from a hardware store to put it on your sink (when needed, not permanent)

Wort Chiller (worth it's weight in copper, plus the single most useful purchase you'll ever make)

Turkey Deep Fryer w/ a large pot for full boils.

Additional Airlock & Rubber Stopper for simultaneous batches

Hydrometer Beaker or test jar

Aerating Paddle

I got my equipment in a timely fashion intact and ready to go. It has everything you need to make your first homebrew easy and good. It has a few pieces of equipment you might not need but if your going to do it and take it seriously you might as well go for it and get it all. I was very happy with ALL the equipment and have made several batches already that were excellent.

THE ONLY THING MISSING FROM THIS PACKAGE IS THE STOCK POT. It would be nice if the seller specified more clearly that you will need to buy your own stock pot and an approximate price on one. I dont do much cooking to say the least and was shocked it cost me 30$+ to buy a metal freaking pot. Other than that I was very very happy!

I recieved the brew kit in a timely a manner and love it. I'm new to brewing and this kit has really helped me start off on the right track. Thanks!

Honest reviews on Superior Home Brew Beer Kit

Having a primary and secondary glass carboy fermenter is definitely the way to go. I use the plastic bucket container as my supply container during bottling. Again, everything is very high quality with the possible exception of the thermometer. Not sure that it is reliable, atleast on the lower end. I got a much higher quality cooking thermometer that I'll be using on my next batch. Great kit though.

Would have given 5 stars if one of the carboys hadn't arrived broken. They did make good though, and very quickly.

Enviro-Log Inc 6Pk 5Lb Enviro Firelog 100562 Firelogs Holders Reviews

Enviro-Log Inc 6Pk 5Lb Enviro Firelog 100562 Firelogs Holders & Accessories

These two fire logs Enviro-Log and Java Log, have a lot in common. Both are made from waste materials: coffee grounds in one case; waxed cardboard, like milk cartons, in the other. Both advertise more heat per unit weight and lower emissions than regular wood. Java-Log asserts carbon neutrality, because its waxy binder comes from plant sources I don't know the provenance of the wax in Enviro-Log. Both advertise a 3hr burn time for the 5lb log.

They're alike in how they burn, too, whether that's a good thing or not. I had a chance to test both. I burned them, one at a time, in an outdoor firepit a steep-sided ceramic bowl about 80cm across and 30 deep. Both times, I burned the log during daylight on a metal grate with plenty of air circulation underneath, and lit them according to the manufacturers' directions. For the Java-Log, that meant leaving the paper wrapper on and lighting the wrapper in three places. I found this somewhat less than satisfactory, since only one end of the log lit. Following the manufacturer's directions, I didn't poke at it until the whole length of it was lit, which took about a half hour. Even then, the surface didn't burn evenly until, against recommendation, I turned it over, grooved side down. That seemed to burn a bit better. I never got very big flames, but I'm sure it would have been more impressive at night. Burning had a slight waxy smell. That's a big point for me, compared to the aroma of woodsmoke, because my wife's asthma worked a lot better with the Java-Log's emissions than with regular smoke. (I missed the woodsy aroma, but you can't have everything.) It burned pretty much the advertised time, but went through phases of more and less smoke as it burned. It burned cleanly and completely, unlike wood which always leaves charred ends, leaving only a cup or two of uniform, sandy ash. I assume the ash comes only from the coffee grounds, so it should be compost-compatible.

The Enviro-Log was remarkably similar, in my test. Directions say to unwrap the log, wad the wrapping under the log, and use the wrapping as kindling. As with the Java-Log, this was less than satisfactory. It lit, but rolled off the wad once burning weakened it, so I had to move the log back onto the burning wrapper. As with the Java-Log, the manufacturer's procedure lit only one end of the log. It also took about a half hour and a little turning for it to catch completely. It burned much the way the Java-log did, but with a slightly more pronounced waxy smell and with a little papery ash flying away (but caught by the firepit's screen). The Enviro-Log had smoky phases as did the Java-Log, but a bit smokier. It also burned down cleanly, but the pile of papery ash at the end was a good bit bigger than the Java-Log's residue. Since it's just paper ash it should be as garden-friendly as wood ash, but I wouldn't swear to either log's ash suiting an organic farmer.

I found the two pretty much equivalent in this test. The waxy smell meant I wouldn't use either for cooking, and they don't produce coals the way wood fires do. Only one thing (which I didn't test) left me leaning toward the Enviro-Log. The Java-Log's instructions are quite insistent about burning only one at a time, not burning other wood or fuel with it, and leaving it alone while it burns. I don't know for sure, but I suspect that the waxy binder could soften if the log overheated, possibly causing it to crumble or flare up. Likewise, the "leave it alone" order could be due to softening with heat, so that poking at it would break it up rather than turning it. The Enviro-Log advertises that you can burn one with other fuel (e.g., regular wood) in the fire, burn two together, or add additional fuel before the first log burns out. That flexibility is a real selling point, especially if you plan to keep the fire going past one log's lifetime.

In summary: they're both attractive because of my wife's sensitivity to wood smoke, and both use materials that would otherwise have gone to landfill. When burned one at a time, they behave quite comparably not a big showy fire, more than enough to cast a bit of warmth. The Enviro-Log seems more versatile, though, and doesn't prohibit many of the things I normally do with regular wooden logs.

These logs are ok but do not heat as well as Duraflame or Presto Logs. They are a little bit cheaper to buy but you have to really burn 2 or more logs to generate adequate heat. This product also creates LOTS of ash. They do light easily and are an ideal log for nights that are not too cold.

I was so thrown by the bad reviews here, that I had to double check that I am reviewing the same product! I am quite happy with these. After burning six logs, I find them quick to light, odorless, long lasting, and nicely heat-producing. On top of all that, the logs are 100% recycled cardboard boxes. For me, the only way they could be improved is if they were cheaper and they made a crackling sound.

This is definitely worth a try, especially if you are environmentally conscious.

Honest reviews on Enviro-Log Inc 6Pk 5Lb Enviro Firelog 100562 Firelogs Holders

For starters, they are safer than burning traditional wood, which is a great start. If you have a fire in your fireplace all the time, these probably are not the best bang for your buck, but if you are like us and only have a fire in the fireplace from time to time (once or twice a week on Winter nights), these are perfect.

These things are terribly easy to use. You tear off the wrapper and throw them in the fireplace, using the wrapper as kindling, and they light right up. You could even just light the log itself if you want, for a slower start.

I recommend using two logs at a time to get a full-sized fire. These will last for 3-4 hours, and as they crumble apart the flames get larger (similar to when you stoke a natural wood fire). At times, the flames were huge from the two logs at other times, they were fairly subdued but in my experience this isn't much different than regular wood fires. These do leave more ashes behind than a Duraflame, but obviously much better for the environment and your health/safety.

The only negatives I can think of are price (more expensive than bulk purchased wood) and appearance. They have a waxier look than a duraflame, so for someone who really cares about the look of wood in a fire, it could be a drawback otherwise it's a great use of recycling.

The box shows a log in full flame. You will not get this unless you start pulling it apart.

The paper wrapper does not catch fire very easily, thus is hard to create critical heat to get the log going. You will get either side of the log fitfully burning. It will continue to slow burn unless you help it along by pulling it apart... which defeats the long burning aspect.

I have actually had one of these logs go OUT and I had to get it going again. It also generates a lot of ash.

Nice idea, but it's not there yet.

Purchased this kettle back in December and have been using it ontop of my woodstove to humidify the air. First off, what's pictured is a bronze/gold colored handle; however, when I got it, the handle was actually silver. It was a little annoying, but it was no bigie for me. I bought this because it has a porcelain enamel finish so the inside would not rust (as opposed to traditional cast iron kettles without an enamel finish). Well, after about 2 months of use, it began to rust on the inside. I looked at where it was rusting and it appears the inside of the kettle was not completely finished in enamel (looks like they missed some spots in the coating process). Contacted the seller and the only have a 30 day return policy so I'm stuck with it. :( Too bad for me, but maybe not for whoever might read this review.

After having Amazon (Thank you Amazon) replace the first pot because it chipped during shipping due to weak packing for such a heavy item, we received the second pot and it went badly from there. They coat the thing in lacquer, supposedly to deter rust, and my wife spent hours trying to get it off the bottom and out of the inside. She never did get it all.

The top is way too loose and falls to the side and hangs and yes it was put on correctly. When you put the springy handle on the pot you have to be extremely careful not to let the pointy edges touch the pot as it will chip. Ours chipped pushing the handle end through the holes. We were stunned at how easy it chipped.

It is now an ornamental piece because my wife will never use it to heat water for tea and the chipped areas means it will not sit proudly on our wood burning insert hearth. I would look around first and make this your last choice. We are already looking for another pot (different brand) from Amazon.

We purchased this kettle as a humidifier for the wood-burning stove. The color is amazing and the kettle is sturdy. You will have to assemble the handle yourself and we found out why: it easily chips the coating over the cast iron. I made it worse by clipping in the handle, then realizing how it is supposed to assemble (lid loops over rear handle hole, metal ring over lid loop, THEN insert the handle). There were instructions for curing the metal, but not for assembly so in my eagerness to put the handle on I realized my mistake. The beautiful coating chipped putting the handle on as well as taking it off. I recommend the kettle, but just assemble it right the first time.

I have had one of these for about ten years. It's rusty on the inside but the outside finish is flawless. I just polished it. Looks good.
