I bought this from eBay for around $190. I have two other electric space heaters so comparison was an easy task. I bought it for our high ceiling bedroom which is about 300 sf. Ceramic heater was useless because hot air would rise up. Then I bought a Holmes Infrared Quartz Heater from Wal-Mart , this was a lot better than the ceramic heater but the fan was really noisy and there was no way to turn it off. Holmes Quartz Heater gives you SUN Like heat and the heat does not rise up like ceramic heaters. Anyways it was way too noisy, You can't have a restful sleep with that thing. Still I thought there was something right with the infrared heaters. Then I looked into Edenpure and other more expensive infrared heaters. They looked promising now that I was already sold on the idea of infrared heating but they were really expensive. Then I looked at eBay and found Dr Heater. Customer Feedback was pretty good so I decided to give it a shot. It arrived in 5 days and I first tried it in our living room which is about 700 sf when kitchen included. Dr Heater was OK, I was not too impressed but still felt it was doing something different. It did its magic when I moved it to our bedroom. In about 10 minutes our bedroom was already warm , and outside temp was 35-40 F. It was set on Auto but later that night I set it to LOW because it was getting really hot and yet thermostat kept showing 66F degrees and never shut off because I'd set it to 70. SO I am not sure if the thermostat was defective or what, it sure felt more than 66 F. Anyways when I set it at LOW it was REALLY comfortable and most importantly QUITE. That's the best thing about this heater, it is quite and you can place it in your bedroom. No other heater could heat our bedroom on LOW because of high ceilings. Dr Heater did it. Overall I give it 4 stars, I was going to give 5 but I still cannot figure out if the thermostat is good or not so there you have 4 and, it is an honest review not like the first review that is obviously written by one of the Dr Heater employees :)

I have an Iheater and the Dr. Heater and I like the Dr. Heater better. They are both good units but the Dr. Heater is smaller and easier to carry around from place to place if needed and the wheels underneath are spaced closer together thus easier to place on top of other units such as a speaker unit that is not in use or a large air purifier that I have thus not taking up any floor space if needed. It also blows heat out harder than the Iheater but in the end, I think they both kick out about the same amount of heat energy.

The Dr. Heater is made of real wood also, where the Iheater and allot of others on the market have plastic shells.

Keep in mind folks that these are just space heaters BUT they are more power efficient and do kick out a bit more heat than the other numerous space heaters that I have and I have quite a few unfortunately... I have found that they do heat very large areas by them selves but do take a while to bring it up to temperature but once there, they are pretty amazing for their portable size and the amount of wattage they use.

They are commonly used in combination with your main heat source so that the main heat source runs less, thus saving you money. The heat is a very comfortable heat and does not dry the air. It seems to disperse the heat much better than space heaters that dry the air. The heat seems to get around allot better but will still be warmer near the heat source of course.

I think if one looks at these as what they really are, in which is an efficient little space heater that kicks out a bit more heat with a more comfortable feel that disperses a bit better will be well happy with these new type heaters. If you look around you can get some killer deals on the Dr. Heater and think the price will come down in years ahead on this new technology as they become more predominant in the market place.

I like both of my heaters but I like the Dr. Heater better because it seems to blow better and whether it actually kicks out more actual heat in the end, I don't know but it makes me want to believe it does...LOL... And the bit smaller size allows me to put it in more spaces than the larger Iheater and the real wood is just a touch more American, not to mention it is well over a $100.00 cheaper thus leaving some money in your pocket to take momma out to dinner before you come home to a nicely efficient warmed house... My vote goes to Dr. Heater and if I get another it will be the same.

C. Ferrisi may not quite understand what PTC is. I looked it up. "Positive temperature co-efficient PTC heating elements are small ceramic stones with self temperature limiting characteristics. PTC stones have fast heating response times and plateau once the pre-defined reference temperature is reached." The infrared lights produce the heat. This type of heating is how you can heat a large area without creating a huge electric bill. Which is why we have a couple around the house so our furnace (which is electric) will not kick on as often. It saves electricity without having to run around the house in a parka! LOL

Ok, I order the heater and they ship a used (obviously returned) unit out to me. I contact them about this and they give me the run around and keep asking if the unit is damaged. I ask why the unit was returned, they don't answer. I ask them to CC Amazon on the emails they are sending, they don't. They offer me $30 to keep the used unit, I say no, just send me a shipping label to send it back for a refund. They say "we don't send out shipping labels." I contact Amazon and ask them to step in. They send me a shipping label. I tried out the unit and it didn't heat even half of the square footage it promised. What a disaster.

I ordered the portable Far Infrared Heater Model DR-968 on 2-22-10. I received the heater in a timely manner. I began using the heater the day it was received. The heater only worked two (2) days. My attempts to get a replacement were not answered until I sent an e-mail through Amazon.com. I then received an e-mail from the company stating a replacement was being shipped out that very day. Waited a week and still no replacement heater. Sent another e-mail only to be told my replacement heater had not been sent. There had been a mix-up and the paper work had gotten misplaced. However, my replacement heater would be sent out that day or latest the next. I just received my replacement heater (3-31-10). I check it and for now it is working. Hope this heater will not stop after a couple of days. It is my opinion, had it not been for one of my e-mails going thur Amazon.com I would still be waiting on a replacement heater. This is a great kit. I'd brewed before and gave it up about five years ago. Knowing the process going in, I looked for a kit that had more than the starter kit. Inevitably, you start brewing with a bucket, make some good beer, get hooked and next thing you know you're spending more and more money getting a carboy, then a bigger carboy, then a brush, the list goes on and on.

When I set out to buy new equipment, this was the kit for me. It doesn't have EVERYTHING you'll want, but it covers all of the essentials that get pricy when purchased individually and allows you to have multiple batches going simultaneously. Since purchasing a month ago, my wife and I have just bottled our second batch and have a third in the secondary and a fourth in the primary. Perhaps that's overkill, but the hardest part about brewing is the waiting. With this kit, you more or less don't have to. The question now is, what are we going to do with 20 gallons of beer?? :)

Anyway, I definitely recommend this kit. If you love good beer and you've been thinking about brewing for a while, do it right from the get-go and spend a little more now to save a lot later.

Other recommendations:

Bottle Washer just get one. May need a $2.00 adapter from a hardware store to put it on your sink (when needed, not permanent)

Wort Chiller (worth it's weight in copper, plus the single most useful purchase you'll ever make)

I got my equipment in a timely fashion intact and ready to go. It has everything you need to make your first homebrew easy and good. It has a few pieces of equipment you might not need but if your going to do it and take it seriously you might as well go for it and get it all. I was very happy with ALL the equipment and have made several batches already that were excellent.

THE ONLY THING MISSING FROM THIS PACKAGE IS THE STOCK POT. It would be nice if the seller specified more clearly that you will need to buy your own stock pot and an approximate price on one. I dont do much cooking to say the least and was shocked it cost me 30$+ to buy a metal freaking pot. Other than that I was very very happy!

Having a primary and secondary glass carboy fermenter is definitely the way to go. I use the plastic bucket container as my supply container during bottling. Again, everything is very high quality with the possible exception of the thermometer. Not sure that it is reliable, atleast on the lower end. I got a much higher quality cooking thermometer that I'll be using on my next batch. Great kit though.

When I ran the Hotshot 330 it was louder then I thought it would be. I hooked it up by my stove and heated the temp. switch till it came on. I know you can control the speed by using the speed control, even then it was a little loud.

What I did is sent it back and bought the 160 CFM universal fireplace blower fan 15" I already had on in the fireplace so I put both of them side by side with a temp. switch. Now not only is it quite but there is twice the air flow !!! I tryed them both out by using a light near the temp. switch. All is well.

I received the product there were no instructions. I plugged it in to test it, and it did not work. It took several phone calls to reach someone. They explained it has a built in temp gauge that turns on when the temp reaches a certain point. It would have been nice to know that before I took the time to pack it up to return it!

The wood holder is very sturdy and well built, I expect it to last a very long time.

A couple of negatives -the tools are a bit short, they would be more useful if they were 6" to 12" longer (I nearly have my hand in my wood stove when using the poker). Also the broom isn't that useful for sweeping (I've decided it is most decorative).

I am very satisfied with the looks of this set. It has streamlined the looks of the stove with its combination of tool and log storage. The broom is barely satisfactory though. It is lightweight and the bristles are stiff. I disliked the poker so much that I am keeping my old one. It is bent on the end, lightweight and short. Who can manipulate heavy logs with such a tool! Other than that, I love the looks. Go ahead and buy this set if looks matter but you might want to find an old poker to use instead of the one Enclume sends.

bouht this after seeing it on UNCRATE... make sure you put some heavy foil underneath as it gets messy. marshmallow and chocolate were all over the grating and i thought i was just going to pitch it after the first use, but to my surprise, everthing cleaned off very easily!

The fun part of smores is melting the marshmallow over an open fire. I realize that. For pure convenience though, the Cuisinart Smore Maker is AWESOME! Build the Smore, close the cage, melt on either a BBQ or in the oven. 6 perfect Smores within minutes. We have one at our cabin, had to purchase another for home. Assuming it works as advertised, I give it 5 stars however I wanted to warn folks about the propane hose that gets advertised by Amazon as "frequently purchased with this item". It doesn't fit! You need to get the hose with 3/8" Male pipe thread x 3/8" Female pipe thread. It would be nice if the amazon description included this detail. This pit is just what I wanted. I never saw it advertised with logs, so the lava rocks are just fine. This pit is low to the ground so it lets the heat warm you more. Read the instructions well on how to slowly open the gas for the maxium amount of flame. I love that this is one of the highest BTU's (60,000) for a great price. Also very portable if I want to move from back to the front of the house or travel with it. I would definetly recommend to purchase. I have many friends waiting to see how it worked out for me before they purchase. great! And no worry about smoke, firewood and ashes! I also researched many others and it's great for the price.

I felt compelled to provide a review on the Del Rio since a few things might be unclear to prospective buyers. I wasn't sure if it would ship with the copper or hammered penny finish and was very happy when mine arrived with the copper. Excellent! I was hoping for that.

My box appeared to have been a repack / return, but all of the parts were there. One edge of the bowl was bent down a little where the retainer clip sits (due to shipping, etc.), but no biggie... it's a fire pit, not a coffee table!

It was not overly clear in the Amazon "Items Included" list, but my unit DID include a 6FT hose with a regulator on one end, which screwed perfectly onto a 20lb propane tank. I also ordered the 15FT 3/8"M + 3/8"F extension, just in case, though the stock hose was just the right length for my use. The manual is substantive and very well written/proofed.

IMPORTANT: Do not skip the recommended soapy water test. I did the test and, indeed, there was a (very) small amount of propane leakage where the regulator connects to the coupler/hose. Rather than send that part back for exchange, or buy a new hose, I already had some natural gas thread seal tape on hand. I used a 3/4" socket to unscrew the regulator from the threaded coupler and wrapped the threads with the seal tape. Once it was securely tightened back together, there were no leaks and it was good to go.

I was also very happy with the amount of lava rocks included, which came in 4 big bags, each about the size of a loaf of bread. I was a little curious about the quantity, given a couple of the reviews, but it seems like the perfect amount to me, and does create a little mountain that carries slightly above the bowl, which is how it should be. I can't really imagine needing any more as the bowl would then be almost overflowing?

Operation: As recommended, I "slowly" opened the propane tank valve and turned the Del Rio on... it fired up perfectly the first time. After doing the 10 minute "HIGH setting" rock burn-in that Camp Chef recommends, I played around a little bit with different settings. The flame volume was better than expected, and it puts out a lot of heat! The flames were a decent size, varying from about 4-8" above the rocks on the HIGH setting. Even just randomly placing the rocks in the bowl gives great flame distribution, but I also used a long pair of tongs to reposition the rocks while the flames were on, for optimum heat and aesthetic layout.

Yes, there is a minor propane hiss on MED and HIGH, but no more than a standard propane stove would create and very acceptable. My only real complaint is that (on my unit, at least) does begin to whistle on the LOW setting, at the fire pit end--kind of annoying, but not a deal breaker for me since I can whistle louder than it can. The whistle goes away just around MED, but I would have liked the LOW setting for my patio, plus the lessened propane use.

I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 due to that whistle, the leaky regulator connection, and the bent bowl--perhaps that is why it appeared to be a repack/return? Camp Chef seems like a solid company and, based on the many other reviews, mine is probably enigmatic. I am sure they would remedy the situation if I asked, which I won't.

Overall, it rocks! A lot of design thought undoubtedly went into this fire pit. The physical size and fire level is perfect for a decent sized patio, campsite, etc., it looks awesome, and the lava rocks stay warm for a long time after turning it off, which is a plus for warming the bones on cold eves while stretching out propane usage.
