This stove does a good job heating once the heavy cast heats up. It will take a 25" piece though they need to be a little on the slender side or just one large chunk. It heated up my 1000 square foot shop nicely. Put a fan behind it and it could do more. I would give it a higher rating but the price listed is considerably higher than what I paid 2 1/2 years ago. What is really expensive is the insulated pipe you will need to buy.

Bought this stove almost a year ago. We use it to heat our upstairs almost 1300 sq ft. This thing is a heat making machine. The only bad thing I can say is you only get a 4-5 hour burn when loaded and dampered down. Other than that it is a great stove for the money. If you are use to a pellet stove or high end wood burner you might find this stove to be to much work, but for me that is part of the enjoyment of heating with wood. I have read reviews complaining about smoke I think this is more operator error than the stoves fault. Please have your chimney as straight as possible any bends makes it harder to achieve a good draft. As well make sure you are using well seasoned hardwood to burn.

I just received it today and noticed they left out the grate. It does not come with it. So better order it also if you want. I look forward to lighting it up. 10/15/08 have it all put together now and there are no defects of any kind as of now. Putting together the required venting maybe tricky since I have not a one Ace Hardware, or a Lowe's, or Home Depot that has the necessary parts to complete the installation I will need to go on-line to find that. I will fill you in as I go. But I Love the looks of this stove in my home, COOL.

I recently purchased the Vogelzaang model bx26e.

I have to comment that having only used this stove twice I can safely safe this is the biggest piece of junk I have ever purchased.

The engineer must have been thinking this was for display only and not for burning anything. Some of the upper seams leak smoke. The fire door does not sit tightly against the frame and you can see flame on the other side. The damper collar almost sits outside of its recessed place and therefore leaks smoke the most.

If you're willing to put the time in to study how this stove behaves you will discover that this is a great stove for the money. Remember it is not airtight and was not designed to be. So it can overfire pretty easily. But once you find the right amount to load into the stove and adjust the drafts properly, you will get a lot of good heat and save a TON of money (if you don't spend too much on the wood.) If you're getting smoke into your house it's because you don't have the proper chimney draft. You MUST heat the chimney first BEFORE you start burning the wood. I searched for quite awhile and looked at many different models of electric fireplace inserts before deciding on this one. It was a tough decision because I couldn't find a video of it in action so I decided to post one of my own. I'm sorry because it is dark but hopefully it will give you a little bit of an idea what this insert is like when its on.

I expected it to be brighter, although, as I said, I looked at a lot and I found that they pretty much all have the same level of brightness. I kept looking for that truly "real" fire look in an electric model and quickly had to realize it just doesn't exist, that is, unless you're willing to spend about a $1,000...I THINK NOT!

So for the price this is a very cute model and I love the way it looks inside our mantel. The arched top is an especially cute feature. I also enjoy that the heat comes out of the bottom as opposed to being top mounted as it is on other models. It heats up the room nicely and shuts off on its own when put on a lower setting, which is also very nice. We enjoyed having ours set up just before Christmas and I look forward to continued use in the warmer months since you are able to have the option of just flames with no heat. To me that makes it much better than a real fireplace that is only usable for a few months out of the year. Can't beat it.

This insert is very nice. With a screen in front of the fireplace it looks very real. It's nice because you don't have to worry about going to bed and leaving the fireplace burning. If you use the heat factor, it warms up a room very nicely.

This well made hearth won't replace your central heat, but looks good and really saves all that heat loss when you burn the fireplace if you don't have an expensive glass door. We only used our fireplace a few times a year and while real wood smells nice and real flames do look better, more heat went up the flue than into the living room. This product puts out an adequate amount of heat, but you may want to raise it up two or three inches. I used a row of old bricks and the heat being directed into the room, rather than directly on the floor improved significantly.

It has a nice metal back and the flames are very realistic. Higher priced products are often cheap wood and plastic. As for a real smoke smell, short of setting fire to the ricking chair I can't help you out.

I bought this approximately six months ago and at first really enjoyed it. It's well designed and ruggedly built and has considerable heft to it so it won't blow over in the wind. The highly polished stainless steel top really adds to the appearance of the flame making it appear much larger and brighter than it really is. A good design feature. The only problem right off the bat was that gel fuels leave behind a black gummy residue that's impossible to remove. Most likely it's the additives mixed with the alcohol that provide the rich yellow flame color and appealing crackle as the fire burns. But the real problem came about 2 months after I purchased the item when I learned that pourable gel fuel had all been recalled from the market (all manufacturers) and was no longer available. I wrote to Blomus and asked them if I could use the new fuel (replacement for pourable gel) ethanol alcohol. I was told I could not. I was told that gel was still available in "cans" (which I already knew) and that I could use a spoon to transfer the gel from the can to the unit. Problem is the process is a pain. The cans were designed to burn the gel inside the can and were not designed for a spoon. Too much is wasted and the process is messy. A pain in the neck quite frankly and much harder to control which causes it to spill on the polished surface stain it. In summary this unit was made specifically for use with pourable gel fuel which is no longer being sold. Yes, you can buy the small (made to be burned) cans which are really made for use in fireplaces designed specifically for holding the cans, but the process of transferring the gel with a spoon to the unit is a pain. If you could burn liquid ethanol fuel in this it would be worthwhile but since you can't I'm stuck with a messy headache. Before buying this unit I would recommend checking out some of the bioethanol fireplaces available. Larger more colorful flames, double the heat of gel,cheaper fuel costs and much easier to get. There are some really neat units out there too!

Was in the market for a gas fire pit table. Bought this unit after reviewing several on line. Delivery was quick. I would give high marks for that. However the box was bulky and heavy so my wife & I decided to open the main box and move the indivual packages to our backyard individually the round table top, a box containing the burner unit, screws and covers (for firepit & gas bottle), a box containing the stand panels, a box of fire glass (heaviest) and the lp tank drawer. Had I known that they provide the pit cover I would not need to buy another cover and spent extra $$$. The "faux wood" is actually sheet steel so are the stand panels. There are some rust stains on the stand panels when I received them. For the assembly, we uses a power drill with philips screw driver and a hand held philips screw driver (for areas where the drill-driver is too broad). The instructions are ok as long as you use some common sense and be really observant of the parts details. I have to disassemble and reassemble the stand as I put one panel upside down.(After assemblying tons of furniture, I think the Ikea instructions are the best). Some hole does not align perfectly between the stand and the table top and need to use some force to align them in order to fix the two together. Same issue was encountered when assembling the lp gas drawer to the stand. As to the final fitting of the door, we had to loosen some screws, readjust the panels and tighten them again so that the door can fit and close itself. BTW the door is held close by a magnetic latch. The pit cover fit snuggly over the table and covers to about 2" off the ground. All in it took my wife and I about an hour to get the job done. As for the workmanship, I think its made in China or some 3rd world place. As to appearance, it not as appealing as the brochure but I hope it works well. As to it's price, after all the hassle, I think they made a ton of money from this but there doesn't seem to be a less pricey similar unit. I'll just say not completely satisfied but also no violent resentment.

Got this back in late June 2013. Went together just fine, but it didn't work for me right away. I found out after calling the company that you can't turn on t propane on more than one turn, otherwise it will vapor lock (or something like that). Once I got that figured out, it worked fine. UNTIL I had to change our the tank. When that happened, I grabbed my tank from my grill (which was nearly full and working fine). Result: couldn't get it started. Tried all kinds of things, contacted the company 3 times, went through their recommendations over the phone, still didn't work. We have no idea why. So they ordered a replacement part in the ignitor system. It's been backordered for over 2 months. I asked if I could just replace the whole bowl system which includes the ignitor. Nope, it's also backordered. Of course, this is the nice time of year to use the fire pit and it still doesn't work. Not happy at all. Overall, it was OK when it worked (even if finicky), but this is ridiculous. Based on my experience, I would NOT recommend purchasing this item.

These are cheap gloves. They got several burn holes after a couple weeks of medium use but nothing that a little duct tape couldn't temporarily cure. I'm still using the gloves after a couple of years but only because I kept repairing with more duct tape they're actually more tape than leather or insulate now. I should have bought new ones long ago and probably could buy a better pair for the amount of tape I've used to repair these but I guess I don't think about that when I'm stoking the fire. I wouldn't recommend these gloves nor buy them again, but I've used them for a couple of years so they got 2 stars instead of one.

We ordered this fireplace on April 28th. They sent us the wrong one, and it took until June to get it fixed. I'm on the phone with them right now, July 6th, to FINALLY get a refund!! Every phone call they said they couldn't talk to the person they needed to, could they call me back in an hour--a day at the latest. Not one time did anyone ever call us back. Terrible, terrible company!!

The fireplace itself was pretty, but arrived slightly damaged as well as being the gel fuel version instead of the electric we requested. Also, many of the holes did NOT line up (some were not even close!!) with the matching hardware. It was a nightmare to put together and even worse to take apart and repack. Would NOT recommend this fireplace!

When it comes to reviews, I am very critical. So, when you see a review by me that is 5 stars, you know that it was a surprise to me just how good the product was.

1. Finish. The look of the finished wood is really good. about 90% of the wood is just high density pressboard with a wood veneer. The wood veneer is nothing short of beautiful. However, you should know that the stain isn't mahogany like it shows in the photo. Its a cherry finish. For me, I have cherry, mahogany and dark oak throughout my house, so as long as it was dark it was fine. But some people might object to that. Because the stain didn't match the photo or the description, 4 of 5.

2. Assembly. It was easy to assemble. All you need is a #2 Phillips screwdriver. Everything else is provided. It will take about 90 minutes to put together. The manufacturer uses cam screws and wood dowels to hold it together. The wood dowels are incorrectly sized and therefore useless. However, the cam screws are quite good and it makes the wood dowels unnecessary. Because the wood dowels were incorrectly sized, I will give 4 of 5 stars.

3. Fireplace. It works for up to three gel fuel canisters. The log piece is heavy and quite durable although slightly unstable in the fireplace. If you buy this unit, when you assemble it, make sure you install the metal fireplace unit from the rear instead of from the front. The instructions were not clear on this, and you could damage the finish if you install it from the front. 5 of 5.

3. Instructions. Because the instructions weren't perfectly clear on the assembly of the fireplace unit, 4 of 5 stars.

4. Value. I was able to get this for $295, this makes the unit an excellent value and is priced at over $450 from other websites. 5 of 5 stars.

Pine Mountain Java Log (5 lb) Crackling Firelog, 3-Hour Burn, Pack Review

These two fire logs, Java Log and Enviro-Log, have a lot in common. Both are made from waste materials: coffee grounds in one case; waxed cardboard, like milk cartons, in the other. Both advertise more heat per unit weight and lower emissions than regular wood. Java-Log asserts carbon neutrality, because its waxy binder comes from plant sources I don't know the provenance of the wax in Enviro-Log. Both advertise a 3hr burn time for the 5lb log.

They're alike in how they burn, too, whether that's a good thing or not. I had a chance to test both. I burned them, one at a time, in an outdoor firepit a steep-sided ceramic bowl about 80cm across and 30 deep. Both times, I burned the log during daylight on a metal grate with plenty of air circulation underneath, and lit them according to the manufacturers' directions. For the Java-Log, that meant leaving the paper wrapper on and lighting the wrapper in three places. I found this somewhat less than satisfactory, since only one end of the log lit. Following the manufacturer's directions, I didn't poke at it until the whole length of it was lit, which took about a half hour. Even then, the surface didn't burn evenly until, against recommendation, I turned it over, grooved side down. That seemed to burn a bit better. I never got very big flames, but I'm sure it would have been more impressive at night. Burning had a slight waxy smell. That's a big point for me, compared to the aroma of woodsmoke, because my wife's asthma worked a lot better with the Java-Log's emissions than with regular smoke. (I missed the woodsy aroma, but you can't have everything.) It burned pretty much the advertised time, but went through phases of more and less smoke as it burned. It burned cleanly and completely, unlike wood which always leaves charred ends, leaving only a cup or two of uniform, sandy ash. I assume the ash comes only from the coffee grounds, so it should be compost-compatible.

The Enviro-Log was remarkably similar, in my test. Directions say to unwrap the log, wad the wrapping under the log, and use the wrapping as kindling. As with the Java-Log, this was less than satisfactory. It lit, but rolled off the wad once burning weakened it, so I had to move the log back onto the burning wrapper. As with the Java-Log, the manufacturer's procedure lit only one end of the log. It also took about a half hour and a little turning for it to catch completely. It burned much the way the Java-log did, but with a slightly more pronounced waxy smell and with a little papery ash flying away (but caught by the firepit's screen). The Enviro-Log had smoky phases as did the Java-Log, but a bit smokier. It also burned down cleanly, but the pile of papery ash at the end was a good bit bigger than the Java-Log's residue. Since it's just paper ash it should be as garden-friendly as wood ash, but I wouldn't swear to either log's ash suiting an organic farmer.

I found the two pretty much equivalent in this test. The waxy smell meant I wouldn't use either for cooking, and they don't produce coals the way wood fires do. Only one thing (which I didn't test) left me leaning toward the Enviro-Log. The Java-Log's instructions are quite insistent about burning only one at a time, not burning other wood or fuel with it, and leaving it alone while it burns. I don't know for sure, but I suspect that the waxy binder could soften if the log overheated, possibly causing it to crumble or flare up. Likewise, the "leave it alone" order could be due to softening with heat, so that poking at it would break it up rather than turning it. The Enviro-Log advertises that you can burn one with other fuel (e.g., regular wood) in the fire, burn two together, or add additional fuel before the first log burns out. That flexibility is a real selling point, especially if you plan to keep the fire going past one log's lifetime.

In summary: they're both attractive because of my wife's sensitivity to wood smoke, and both use materials that would otherwise have gone to landfill. When burned one at a time, they behave quite comparably not a big showy fire, more than enough to cast a bit of warmth. The Enviro-Log seems more versatile, though, and doesn't prohibit many of the things I normally do with regular wooden logs.

Uniflame Newspaper Log Roller Reviews

Everyone who gave this product a bad review put it together wrong! Just read the directions (crazy idea, I know!) and you'll be fine.

You don't need great strength to bend the bottom panel into place DON'T DO THAT! If you don't read the instructions, that's how it looks like you would put it together, BUT YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG! Don't put the panel into the grooves. The grooves are just decorative. JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. It will take 2 people, because you need one person to hold the pieces in place. My friend and I put it together in LESS THAN 5 MIN. (And it only took that long because I was confused by the other stupid reviewers.)

We love it! The logs also require 2 people to make (one person to feed in the newspapers, and one person to turn the crank) but they go quickly, and it's fun!! (But I don't think you need to wet the ends of the newspaper if you do it this way.) The only hard part is getting the newspaper log off the spindle. We find it works best to leave the first few rolls loose as you begin to roll the log, and then roll it tighter. Then it comes off more easily. (Oh, pssome people complained that the spindle shouldn't come out of the hole, but how else are you supposed to get the newspaper log out?)

Crumpled newspaper is not easier. Whoever said that, obviously doesn't get it! These logs BURN LIKE WOOD! They're NOT STARTER LOGS. They are log-replacements. Crumpled newspaper burns quickly to start a fire. These tightly-wound logs burn as slow as a piece of wood. But they're easier than wood, because you can light them with one match. And cheaper! Great for people in cities where wood is scarce and expensive, but we get free newspapers everyday!

Sorry for the long review. I just feel bad that this great product is getting a bad rap just because people don't know how to follow instructions.

Ashley is right. I was a little worried given some of the reviews saying this was hard to put together, but it takes no time at all. The directions leave two things out, but they are somewhat minor. In the beginning when putting the iron bars thru the frames, loosely attach the nuts. Common sense, but it should be in there. Then do what the directions say: insert the plate and tighten the screws. There may be slight bending, to get it to stay in the tracks, but not much. Then when inserting the pipe, it doesn't mention anything about the wooden plug in the pipe. That needs to come out, then tap the pipe into the handle, and insert as directed. Piece of cake!

I found the roller easy to assemble and operate. It was delivered quickly after the order was placed. I couldn't be happier.

Roy put the log roller together but I am the one that makes the "logs". I am a disabled senior citizen and have found the roller to be very easy to operate if you take the time to experiment with different ways of making the "logs".

First of all, make sure the "slit" that you start the first paper in is at the top. I fold the first paper about 3/4" down and then insert it into the slit and start rolling and whence that one is 95% rolled, I insert the next one into it and roll that one and so on until the log is big enough to slide off and I have never had a problem with how tight I roll the logs when it comes to sliding them off if you just turn the handle back and forth while pushing with the other hand, they work themselves right off.

I also wear my garden gloves because the ink from the paper makes my hands very black.

I read somewhere that it said to wet the paper...no need. I also wire tie, tape, or put a piece of ribbon around the log when I am done to hold it rolled until I am ready to use it.

I would definitely recommend this product.

I put mine together last night with little difficulty, though admittedly the directions are not simple to follow. As other reviewers have said, DON'T try to bend the metal piece -I think people are trying to make it fit between the two metal rods. It rests within the frame underneath these rods. Other advice I've seen that makes good sense is to soak the finished log in water, press the water out and let it dry completely to bond the sheets together and make it more like the original -wood. We made one log last night in about five minutes, and yes, it's a four hand effort. Check around on price! I found one online for $36 with shipping, the exact same one that goes for almst $80 elsewhere.

This log roller is just simple and easy to use. It was together in about 5 minutes and rolling news paper logs. No bending like others have said. It is as easy as following the instructions and you will have no problem.
