Review of Kraft Tool Plugging Chisel Made in the USA
I chose this tool for removing old mortar from bricks prior to repointing. I have several other cold chisels that would work but I saw this shape recommended in a British video and, sure enough, it's the best choice. Has a very nice heavy weight that holds up to pounding but not so heavy that it's tiring with long use. The fact that the handle is not quite as long as some chisels permits me to get up a little closer and see what I'm doing, so I don't slam the edges off the bricks.

We absolutely love this fireplace. It is very modern, yet traditional. We have a smaller family room and did not want to be blasted out of the room by a gas fireplace.
This is just perfect. It throws just enough heat to warm things up. I love that I can run it flame only, also. It was very easy to flush mount in our existing wall. We did hire a friend to help with the installation, especially the electrical wiring.
I bought it with a best offer on eBay for $900 shipped. My boyfriend thought that was *rhymes with started.*
It is gorgeous. It doesn't stick out of the wall too far (while an in-wall mounting would be preferable I settled for on the wall). I love looking at it.
As for functionality, I appreciate that in the summer, I will be able to run this fireplace for show, but without heat. As for the heater part... My apartment building is old, and poorly maintained, and therefore not energy efficient, which is why I needed some sort of space heater, and opted for this one. That said, I'm grateful it hasn't been too cold in Boston yet... When it does get colder (like tomorrow), I'm worried that this thing just isn't going to cut it. My room is 12'x18' with a 13' ceiling. The loft bed in my room does benefit from the heat being 8' up, but the lower level doesn't quite benefit enough. I see no reason to run it on low heat always high.
I don't understand why you either have to switch to remote or manual, but can't do both... But I really like having a remote.
Conclusion: good for show, less so for heat (very glad I didn't pay full price which, while searching for this one at a more affordable price, seems to average $1,400 new).
I hired a professional contractor to install it. It only took about an hour.
The electric fireplace was here before the scheduled date.
I love my Dimplex!

We saw this fireplace at a neighbor's house while looking for an electric fireplace for our home. We liked the look and the fact the blower for the heater directed the heat horizontally versus vertically. For an electric fireplace the flames are about as realistic as you can get; not quite as natural as a gas flame but close enough. We like it and it adds a nice touch to our family room.Best Deals for Dimplex BLF50 50-Inch Synergy Linear Wall Mount Electric Fireplace

I wasn't sure on these fireplaces and it was a lot of money for an electric FP. I have to say we are more then happy with our purchase. They are beautiful and better then expected. Everyone comments on them and how cool they are. We were going to do propane but for a fraction of the price found these and thought we would try them. It was so easy to install and we love the look so much we ordered two. We bought one for our living room and one for our bedroom. We are so happy with this choice.Thursday, September 11, 2014

Panacea Products 15331 Fireplace Hearth Leather Gloves - Quantity 6 Review
These are cheap gloves. They got several burn holes after a couple weeks of medium use but nothing that a little duct tape couldn't temporarily cure. I'm still using the gloves after a couple of years but only because I kept repairing with more duct tape they're actually more tape than leather or insulate now. I should have bought new ones long ago and probably could buy a better pair for the amount of tape I've used to repair these but I guess I don't think about that when I'm stoking the fire. I wouldn't recommend these gloves nor buy them again, but I've used them for a couple of years so they got 2 stars instead of one.

The Gloves were poor quality. Holes burned through the finger tips within 2 weeks of use. Other simular gloves would last 1 2 years.Best Deals for Panacea Products 15331 Fireplace Hearth Leather Gloves - Quantity 6
The first time I used these gloves I felt the heat of a log burn my hand. I already have "fireproof" gloves that I've used over and over to pick up burning logs and they have always protected my hands. These are garbage, and they don't do what they claim to do.Honest reviews on Panacea Products 15331 Fireplace Hearth Leather Gloves - Quantity 6

The bar is based on a 1/2" inch pipe. Because the powder coating cakes off pretty fast, you WILL have to take the bar off to get all the debris out of the pipe or many of the holes won't have any flame. A larger diameter pipe isn't immune to this, but it takes a lot more build-up to actually choke the gas flow. Because the mixing chamber is so long, and the holes in the pipe don't start right away, the actually flame start is about 6" from the end of the bar near the mixing chamber. This is a very long distance. I drilled more holes in mine so that the flame started closer to the mixing head.
My last starter log was based on a 3/4" pipe and worked much better. Next time I need a starter log, I'm just going to buy some pipe and drill the holes myself. While this wasn't expensive, having to put a hour of work into it to make it what I needed was a pain. Might as well take a little more time and make the whole thing.

I am giving this two stars only because it is a TV Stand and it will function as such. It does have doors and shelves and a glass top door. The design is nice.
So with the above mentioned good qualities...I feel I must give this product some credit.
Now for the bad news: The advertising is false: The product is not "hardwood" it is "HARDLY WOOD". This is totally made of compressed wood material. Sometimes called MDF. I call this type of material "really thick and hard cardboard". The color is closer to black than anything else. The product will probably arrive with some damage. It is heavy and mine came is some very slight BUT NOTICEABLE damage. You will have to assemble this item and it will take you a bit of time and effort. Some parts do not fit as tight as they should. The finish is weak and will easily scratch, you will have to exercise care when placing thing on and around this item. You will have to be careful when you mop, sweep or vaccum around this TV stand. I paid just under $200 dollars for mine. I will keep it only because I am too lazy to repack it and send it back to Amazon. It will last for years if you exercise care and not move it very much. It will do the job for what I need it for and I feel that I paid a little too much for what it is. But, it is not total ripoff, just a very misleading product being sold on Amazon.
My two star review as very generous...my wife feels it should be a one star review.
Know that you are buying a very weak quality product that contains absolutely NO NATURAL WOOD what so ever. Its perfect, the colro shade is very nice. Tall and elagant. The glass flip up drawer is a really nice touch.

Duraflame Firestart 24-Pack Firelighters Review
Let me just start saying I am usually very skeptical of buying anything without reading a solid review history in favor of a product so for me to buy this product was a bit out of my comfort zone. I just moved into a new home with a fireplace and was struggling to get one going with my fresh delivery of wood today.
I hopped over to the local Home Depot to see what alternatives they had for just starting fires with very little trouble. I am familiar with the duraflame brand from just general knowledge but no firsthand experience so I was not sure what I was getting myself into so I looked up the product here (which is pretty standard procedure for me) but was astounded to only see one review for this product.
Being in a pinch and with limited options in front of me at the time I figured what the heck. This pack of 24 was only $10 at my local HD (I have no idea why it is so expensive here so I would encourage you to look around first) so I figured I'd try it out. It far exceeded any expectations I ever had of it. Simple, easy to use, I lit the little brick and the thing just took off and I have a raging fire in the amount of time it took me to stuff newspaper into my fire.
I now type this review after sitting by the fire the last 4 hours watching movies. I would highly recommend this to anyone, just not at the current $17 price here. Again, look around. For $10 at HD I'll have a few boxes of these on hand every year from now on.
Now this product can have 2 reviews. I'll leave the 3rd up to the next person. Anyone?
These "fire starters" are the BEST in the business ! They used to be available at several store in our area. For some reason they have stopped carrying them. The good news was, that these are twice the amount for less then twice the price and as an Amazon Prime member, I get to have FREE SHIPPING on these. So glad it all happened this way ! ALWAYS easier to start a fire in the fireplace/wood stove using these. Nothing else we have ever tried works as well as these.

This is the best fire starter available. I have tried every other type and this is the only one that has the heat and the burn time needed to start even the most stubborn firewood. Don't waste your time on any other. At 75 cents each at amazon (with prime), it still isn't too bad a price for the trouble it saves. It could be purchased in stores for a bit cheaper. I think Target may carry it. Why more stores don't carry it is baffling. Walmart carries about 5 different types of useless starters, but doesn't carry something worthwhile like this.Honest reviews on Duraflame Firestart 24-Pack Firelighters

Cheap Sauder Edge Water Entertainment Credenza, Estate Black

List Price: $359.99
Sale Price: $209.99

We like this entertainment stand. We like the height for our 60" Samsung TV on the top.
The only drawback we found was the depth of the compartments is a little tight. We've had to leave the doors off so far to fit our receiver and HTPC. We could also cut a hole in the back or leave it off, but that's not what we've done so far...
Inner width of each of the three compartments: 17.5 inches.
Inner depth of each of the shelves: 15.5 inches.
Functionality:
The biggest drawback for us was that the shelves, when you use all three are too small for DVD cases when standing vertically. You can arrange the shelves to use two of them to hold blu rays, but the third will still be too small. The shelf holes don't extend all the way down to the floor of the unit, which also limits how low you can put the bottom shelf.
Otherwise, It's a nice, seemingly durable unit that looks great with flat screens. It's a nice height which keeps it from being too low, but doesn't make you crane your neck like sitting in the front row of a movie theater.
The table-top has a single hole in the center, near the rear (wall) side of it to allow for cords from the top to go into the top-center shelf space. The hold makes use of a typical grommet and cap for finishing off the look and keeping cords organized. If you're planning to wall-mount your tv, be aware that this hole/grommet will be visible on the top of the unit!
That center shelf space also has a hole in the rear wall of the unit. So do each of the other shelf spaces. They are fairly small in diameter about 1.5", and the shelves sit against the rear wall. You could probably cheat the shelves about 1/4" for very thin wires, but you won't be running component cables, multiple hdmi, etc behind the shelves. Otherwise, the shelves will either hit the glass door or be further out than the face of the unit. With the small holes in the rear and shelves that fit tight against the rear, there's not a whole lot of air flow or venting for hot components. You may want to cut your own larger vents for use with components that generate a lot of heat.
The front edge of the table-top is nicely rounded (except the side corners), which make it nice for toddlers and it also helps prevent the veneer from being obvious on that top-front. This added to the visual appeal for me. The drawer has faux-maple wood on the inside, including a textured faux woodgrain bottom.
Lastly, this unit is too low to the ground to fit a power strip underneath it. We have a power strip with two rows of outlets, which many home-theater strips do, and once you plug your cords into it, they are too high to fit underneath. The unit is so low, you can stand the strip on its side, either. If your outlets are behind the unit, you'll want power strips that have the flat-profile plug unless you don't plan on putting the unit a couple inches out from the wall.
Damage:
Ours had 1 scratched shelf (so I just put the scratch on the bottom so it isn't seen) and the long bottom molding does have some damage that I'm going to call Sauder for a replacement.
Assembly:
This was one of the easiest units to put together. No glue, dowels, or misaligned holes. It's a combination of the typical cam-locks as well as a new type of cam lock that doesn't use the metal peg in the adjoining piece of wood. Instead, the hole for the cam is cut all the way through the edge of the main piece and the cam itself has a peg attached to it. The peg goes into the hole of the adjoining piece and when the cam is turned, it forces a sleeve on the peg to expand and pull the two pieces together. You do have to hold the two pieces tight together when doing this, so that's the down side, but the upside is that it's less hardware and less screwing things into place. Overall one of the easier pieces to assemble with fairly clear directions including tips on where the finished edges should be pointing.
The unit also has two supports under the center of the unit, directly below the vertical pieces of wood that separate the shelf bays. A note on these: there is a piece of wood you attach the bottom of the unit for each support leg. Then you have to hammer the plastic support foot into the hole of the wood spacer. Be sure to hammer it in all the way.
Aligning the doors can be a bit tricky, but it's the standard adjustable hinge, so no real surprises. The drawer is also easy to put together and they use a clip and nail to hold the bottom panel in place.
The backing easy to put on upside down, which I did and didn't notice until I had 40+ nails into it. Visually, this didn't make any difference, but my vent holes are in all the wrong places. I was able to use a couple, but for some shelves I'll have to cut my own now.
One last tip, front trim easy to leave visible unfinished edges showing if you're not careful. This piece attaches with plastic L-brackets. Do your best on lining them up to the edge of the wood as the instructions show, but you want the top of the molding to be just a hair or two higher than the bottom piece of wood since it's an unfinished edge. Work from one side to the other. Once everything is attached, slightly loosen the screw that attaches to the main unit (not the one that goes into the molding). Doing one screw at a time, loosen, push the molding very tight against the main unit, then tighten down the screw again. This gets you a nice, tight seam between the two pieces.
Conclusion:
Very nice piece of put-together furniture. Average materials, above average looks, and below-average difficulty to assemble. It's not perfect, but pretty close.
Box was well protected with additional card board on outside and Styrofoam on the inside.
All of the parts were in the box, however, the top piece had a minor dent/damage about the size of 1/2 inch wide by 2 inched long.
Instruction manual was easy to read and understand. Took about 1.5 hours.
The reason for 3 stars is because there are 2 support blocks that have to be installed underneath the unit. If you do not, the entire piece will sag under the weight of the TV. The problem was they were too large and caused the stand to "bow" in the middle, thus the unit was not stable. I had to use a dremel kit to cut off about 3/8 of each to get it sturdy. Even after that, I had to use shims on one side to level the unit.
It is particle board and does look good with my Samsung 64" plasma. But for $229.00, it does what I need it to do.

We bought this TV stand because we really liked the looks and dark finish. This has a straight black finish, without any significant wood grain. Others we saw were either a lighter color or a "distressed" finish that while nice looking, had variations in the color. We also liked having the drawer and the plain glass doors that are easy to see components through. It's quite functional and versatile for many tv sizes. Assembly was pretty easy and the finished product is sturdy and offers a fair amount of flexibility. The limited shelf heights and lack of adequate venting behind the glass doors are two areas of improvement. The cord hole in the top of the unit is functional if you place your tv on the stand, but might be an eyesore if you plan to wall-mount the tv.Functionality:

Item was delivered one day early but to my next door neighbors house in error.Box was well protected with additional card board on outside and Styrofoam on the inside.
Honest reviews on Sauder Edge Water Entertainment Credenza, Estate Black
I have put together several pieces of furniture before (Ikea), but I still made mistakes. Any errors that must be re-done destroy the "wood" that makes up the table, and the screws do not work as effectively. Generally, the quality of "wood" is very poor and crumbles easily. While it looks very nice, the structure is super wobbly and I hope that no one trips and uses it as support because they would fall and our TV would not survive.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Sauder Edge Water Entertainment Credenza, Estate Black
I absolutely love my new TV stand. The only negative thing about it was minor dings in parts of it. The product arrived earlier than expected which was great due to the fact it was a weekend. It seemed easy for hubby to put together but a bit time consuming.Thursday, January 2, 2014
Cheap Celebration 4' Half Round Fireplace Hearth Rug
Customer Ratings:
List Price: $51.00
Sale Price: $49.00

Good quality hearth rug, size and color as advertised, not too thick . Received the rug very quickly; it is rolled up and needed time to flatten out.I had a hard time finding a 4' hearth rug at a reasonable price. Upon receipt, this one fit the bill. The color's different than the picture, it was quite a bit darker in the picture; but, thankfully, this will do. And shipping time was surprisingly fast.

List Price: $399.99

I'm moving into a smaller apartment that has no real charm or focal point. This is an inexpensive way to create a focal point.
Please note that this is not a large scale mirror/mantle. It is smaller than you think. If you have large scale furniture, this may not be the right solution for you. It reminds me more of the small size of coal fireplaces in Victorian homes. I wish the mantle were deeper, but for the price and concept, it is a good product and fills a need.
It was easy to assemble. My mirror part arrived shattered, which I discovered on a weekend day when the company was closed. I sent an email with photos and the company responded to my email inquiry quickly on Monday, promising to send a replacement mirror part within a week.
I'd buy from SEI and angelo:HOME again.
