I dont have central heat and air for years now. I been looking for sometime a good strong heater that works on a 220V shocket.

I finally saw this one and bought it.

Same size as your typical plug in Electric heaters. The chord to plug into the socket tho is the same as my 24,000 BTU a/c....it's a Big thick 10 gauge chord with a 30 am terminal.

Anyhow, of you have a 30 amp socket, your good to go.

This unit is is waaaaaaaaaaaay Hotter than ANY standard plug in heater. Those at BEST will give you 5,100 BTU, this unit gives you 16,000 BTU's. About as much as a kerosene heater.

Has your typical controls for a heater, on off, and a thermostat by numbers (1 to 6). I highly recommend this Heater for anyone ho has no central heat or you need heat in your garage or work shed, this is perfect.

Nice little heater. Works well keeping a vacant space warm through the winter. Note that this is a 208/230 volt unit so plan to have the proper circuit available. A little smaller than expected but it's still fine.

I bought this for my 20'x20' semi-insulated attached garage in Wisconsin. It cranks out some heat, but not enough to realistically heat that garage in the winter unless it runs ALL the time. Nicely built unit, VERY simple, basically a coil, fan, and thermostat. There is nothing else inside this thing. When I turned this unit on, and placed it next to my existing 120V 1500W fan heater ($10 type model), I had to check several times because I didn't even think the 1500w heater was turned on! This unit cranks out some heat for it's size. It's basically the size of two shoeboxes taped together, or maybe a pice of paper, it's very small. It helps in the garage, but I found that it is better used in my basement where it can make a bid difference in just a few minutes of use.

Remember you need a 30 amp 240 volt outlet for this. I used my dryer outlet, since I now have a gas dryer. I made up an extension cord that plugs into the existing dryer outlet, and has the 30 amp NEMA outlet on the other end. I got all the stuff at Home Depot, and the cord will be the most expensive part (you need 12 guage, 3 conductors total, no neutral needed).

All in allnot big enough for the garage, but works nice in the workshop. 4800 watts is a lot of power though so I expect a big electric bill :)

I know it's for coal, but we needed something to hold hot ash/coals from our stove. There's no easy way to dump the ashpan from our stove, but this suits our needs for now -no worries about a few hot coals from the pan burning or melting this "bucket!"

Ok if you've found this product you know exactly what you're looking for and this will likely fit the bill.

A neighboring farmer had many of these when I was a kid in the late 1970s.

At one time, they were in every flea market I visited.

But like so many treasures of my youth the heavy galvanized pails with the unique shape had disappeared while I was busy in suburbia.

After years of complaints from my wife about using "ugly" Spackle pails (white plastic 5 gallon pails) I recalled the Hod and found it quickly on Amazon.

This one is thinner than the Hods of my youth but it's perfect and works as intended (no moving parts so it isn't really that difficult to meet my expectations on this item.)

More importantly we have returned to marital bliss as the "ugly" Spackle pails remain in the garage while the new Hod has the spotlight on the fireplace hearth.

It's also great for ashes and starter twigs.

If you need something like this just order it... you won't be upset.

1st off, i want to expain why this product gets 3 stars. The product came do me damaged with pieces of wood missing. Seeing how the boards that were damaged didn't seem to be boards of the front of the unit, i chose not to return it and just paint over it. the only other problem was the directions. Horrible building instructions. With that being said the pieces were well labeled and easy to put together after u got the hang of the instructions. Overall though, i'm happy with the final product and would recommend to others. Hopefully yours won't be damaged but still a solid unit.

Pine Mountain Java Log (5 lb) Crackling Firelog, 3-Hour Burn, Pack Review

These two fire logs, Java Log and Enviro-Log, have a lot in common. Both are made from waste materials: coffee grounds in one case; waxed cardboard, like milk cartons, in the other. Both advertise more heat per unit weight and lower emissions than regular wood. Java-Log asserts carbon neutrality, because its waxy binder comes from plant sources I don't know the provenance of the wax in Enviro-Log. Both advertise a 3hr burn time for the 5lb log.

They're alike in how they burn, too, whether that's a good thing or not. I had a chance to test both. I burned them, one at a time, in an outdoor firepit a steep-sided ceramic bowl about 80cm across and 30 deep. Both times, I burned the log during daylight on a metal grate with plenty of air circulation underneath, and lit them according to the manufacturers' directions. For the Java-Log, that meant leaving the paper wrapper on and lighting the wrapper in three places. I found this somewhat less than satisfactory, since only one end of the log lit. Following the manufacturer's directions, I didn't poke at it until the whole length of it was lit, which took about a half hour. Even then, the surface didn't burn evenly until, against recommendation, I turned it over, grooved side down. That seemed to burn a bit better. I never got very big flames, but I'm sure it would have been more impressive at night. Burning had a slight waxy smell. That's a big point for me, compared to the aroma of woodsmoke, because my wife's asthma worked a lot better with the Java-Log's emissions than with regular smoke. (I missed the woodsy aroma, but you can't have everything.) It burned pretty much the advertised time, but went through phases of more and less smoke as it burned. It burned cleanly and completely, unlike wood which always leaves charred ends, leaving only a cup or two of uniform, sandy ash. I assume the ash comes only from the coffee grounds, so it should be compost-compatible.

The Enviro-Log was remarkably similar, in my test. Directions say to unwrap the log, wad the wrapping under the log, and use the wrapping as kindling. As with the Java-Log, this was less than satisfactory. It lit, but rolled off the wad once burning weakened it, so I had to move the log back onto the burning wrapper. As with the Java-Log, the manufacturer's procedure lit only one end of the log. It also took about a half hour and a little turning for it to catch completely. It burned much the way the Java-log did, but with a slightly more pronounced waxy smell and with a little papery ash flying away (but caught by the firepit's screen). The Enviro-Log had smoky phases as did the Java-Log, but a bit smokier. It also burned down cleanly, but the pile of papery ash at the end was a good bit bigger than the Java-Log's residue. Since it's just paper ash it should be as garden-friendly as wood ash, but I wouldn't swear to either log's ash suiting an organic farmer.

I found the two pretty much equivalent in this test. The waxy smell meant I wouldn't use either for cooking, and they don't produce coals the way wood fires do. Only one thing (which I didn't test) left me leaning toward the Enviro-Log. The Java-Log's instructions are quite insistent about burning only one at a time, not burning other wood or fuel with it, and leaving it alone while it burns. I don't know for sure, but I suspect that the waxy binder could soften if the log overheated, possibly causing it to crumble or flare up. Likewise, the "leave it alone" order could be due to softening with heat, so that poking at it would break it up rather than turning it. The Enviro-Log advertises that you can burn one with other fuel (e.g., regular wood) in the fire, burn two together, or add additional fuel before the first log burns out. That flexibility is a real selling point, especially if you plan to keep the fire going past one log's lifetime.

In summary: they're both attractive because of my wife's sensitivity to wood smoke, and both use materials that would otherwise have gone to landfill. When burned one at a time, they behave quite comparably not a big showy fire, more than enough to cast a bit of warmth. The Enviro-Log seems more versatile, though, and doesn't prohibit many of the things I normally do with regular wooden logs.

My daughter has asthma and I discovered this log at a conference. When it burns it smells terrific and she doesn't have one cough. In fact, none of us had sore eyes or smelled back after a backyard bonfire. It's the best log I have EVER used and now Katie can participate in bonfires!

I made this movie in 2012 when I worked for one of my video clients because I wanted the story to get out. The very gracious Earthlog owner sent us some free logs (very kind) because they weren't available yet in Northern California. But now they are here on Amazon and anyone with any smoke problems needs to give them a try. In your fireplace, inside or out, they are a delight.

Fairly easy to set up, the way our fireplace is set up we had to buy an extra kit with a flexible hose from lowes, but other than that it is very easy.

It puts off heat if you are within 5' to 10' of the fireplace. However, if you are looking for an additional heat source, you should look at the vent free logs.

Just installed the Peterson Real Fyre 18 Inch Southern Oak Log Set With Vented Natural Gas G4 Burner Match Light. Relatively straightforward if you are a little handy and can connect natural gas fittings and line; you will need a couple of good size wrentches. The unit came with a pipe cap on the left and nozel on the right; using a pipe wrentch I needed to switch them for my particular fireplace. You will likely need a natural gas flexible tube kit (Lowes...about $24) and either some teflon tape or pipe dope. I also needed an extra valve to turn the unit on and off or I would have to go out to my garage to open/close the valve to turn the unit on/off, since it does not come with one. This unit required that you keep your damper open at all times when you it is in use. Instructions were adequate, but could use to be improved and streamlined. All in all, pretty good value for the money and I'm glad I purchased it.

After reading the reviews, and doing a bunch of research on my own, I decided to take a chance and order this kit for my fireplace.

The fireplace kit showed up at my door two days after ordering it with free shipping using Amazon Prime. It was ordered 5 days before Christmas, and still ONLY took 2 days! It came Fed-ex instead of UPS, but I assume that is because it weighs so much! It was very well packed, and very well delivered! I am still shocked at how heavy it is!

My fireplace is trapazoidal, and measures 28" rear, 20" front, and 14" deep. I had assumed that it was a large fireplace, but was surprised to discover that it is actually quite small, and this 18" kit is the largest that I wanted to use. It originally came with a natural gas log starter, which was connected from the right hand side, which is a perfect match for this kit. My fireplace also has a 1/4 turn gas valve in the floor, which controls the log starters gas volume.

On to the installation. Make sure the gas is completely off! I have a secondary control in the basement that also allowed me to close the gas flow to the fireplace so I shut that off as well.

Unpacking the kit, i saw that everything that I needed was in the box, except for gas pipe dope. For the $3 cost, it would be a nice item for the manufacturer to just throw it in the box. Unlike another review I read here, the flex pipe was indeed included. Using just a large crescent wrench, I unscrewed the gas log starter and fittings from my fireplace. I carefully read the instructions several times before starting the install. The install was a piece of cake, taking less that an hour. All the parts fit, and go together exactly as the instructions suggest. I am not going to do a walk through simply because if you are not famaliar with gas lines, you should hire a pro. Suffusive to say, it should only cost you about a hour of labor. $99 or less?

This kit is a barebones kit... no regulator, no thermostat, no igniter. But, not really necessary.... using a 12" match, I lit the fire for the first time, and it worked perfectly! At about 30% of the full gas volume, the fire puts out plenty of warmth, and looks beautiful. At 100%, you'll be sweating in 5 to 10 minutes. Pictures to follow, if I can figure it out.

I hope this review helps you to decide. I looked at fireplace kits at the big box stores, and they are crap compared to this. When I went to the fireplace stores, equivalent fireplace kits were easily double in price, IF they were on sale!

Very happy with the gas logs. Once installed, they look really good. Why the 1-star deduction? The burner pan comes with the gas port on the right side. Our fireplace has the gas port on the left. While not impossible, it was really difficult to reverse the end plug and the gas port because they were factory installed very tight. However with 2 people, 2 pipe wrenches, and some pipe dope, they are now reversed. Easy install as well.

We have an 18" firebox and we didn't end up putting in all of the logs that came with the set as it seemed like too much. All that said, very happy with purchase.

I take that back, it's a great log set regardless of where you choose to use it (I've purchased different sets for four different fireplaces, two indoor, two outdoor). For the price, I really expected that something would be missing, either in parts or quality. but it's all here, right down to the sand and "glowing embers" stuff that goes under the logs. And the 18" size fits my current outdoor fireplace perfectly. Quality is absolutely equal to the sets you'd find in stores like Barbeques Galore for much more than double the price. And from the time I opened the box to the time I ignited the first fire was only 40 minutes (granted, I've done this a few times, but it's easily a 1 on the 5 star difficulty scale). Just have a roll of Teflon tape on hand (or dope your choice), and you probably have the wrench and phillips-head screwdriver already. The directions are easy and straightforward and the delivery time was only 3 days. Hit that Buy button and enjoy!

Several years ago I had a stainless chimney liner installed, and ever since, haven't been able to use the fireplace because smoke would fill the room. The 6" smoke guard has really helped reduce the amount of smoke entering the living space enough that I feel comfortable using the fireplace again. Installation was easy and it looks nice (I ordered the black). Be sure to fill any gaps around the smoke guard and brick so smoke doesnt sneak out. i used a fire-proof fiberglass insulation to do this. in all, the smoke guard does a good job, I'd say the amoint of smoke coming into the room is about 10% of what it used to be.

Every time we used the fireplace smoke would come pouring out the front. This product solved the problem. Unfortunately our fireplace doesn't have a smooth surface so we used the extra heat-resistant sealant that came with to fill the gaps.

As others have mentioned it was somewhat difficult to initially mount the smoke guard, especially without smearing sealant everywhere, but with my wife's help we got the job done.

The only problem I had was that I had to remove the door as it connected to the top of the fireplace. I replaced the door with a screen but would have preferred to keep the door.

I like the way it fit into the woodstove's opening, however, my husband did need to drill a couple of holes to attach it.

It does move a lot of air and does have a good variety of speeds.

The thing I personally, don't like is that it is noisy. but take into consideration, that I don't like noise. My husband doesn't mind it at all.

I wouldn't let this negative keep you from buying it.

I bought this fan to replace the noisy one that came with the 2000 series Country Hearth wood stove I bought from Tractor Supply. From the start that fan was junk. Very loud and it didn't move air well. I thought I was stuck with it though because I wasn't going to pay $100 or more for a new one.

I was surprised to find this one for $40 with decent reviews so I purchased it. When it arrived I tested it out and was amazed with how much quieter it was than the stock fan. I had to drill new holes into the back of my woodstove to attach it but that was easy. It fit perfectly and now I have a good fan for my wood stove.

I expected the amount of air movement would be noticeable, it isn't. The fan is not noisy, but you can definitely hear it running. The cord is six feet long. Considering you should have a two foot clearance from the back of your stove to the nearest wall. that leaves only four feet of cord left. so unless you have a receptacle really close, you are going to need an extension cord. The unit comes with a speed control, However mine does not seem to make much difference no matter what position I put it in.

The grate wables. The floor in the fire place is level. The legs on the gate are almost 1/2" out of level. Dissapointed. Something else I have to fix. I could have purchased locally for same price or less and checked for levelness.

The grate arrived in two boxes and looked like it went through a war. When I opened the ripped boxes, a part of the grate had broken off and was wrapped in white paper and taped. The item description by the warehouse was" like new". I called amazon Customer Service and told them the problem. I explained that the boxes were so badly damaged that I could Not use them to return the item and suggested that I would have the broken piece welded back on locally. Customer Service issued me a $10 credit. Because I purchased the product at a discount I felt I could have it welded locally and save the outside packaging cost,[which would probably be conciderable] and Amazon the cost of returning the item and resending another one, which would be required, and still com out having saved something. Unfortunately I thought the cost of two tiny welds would cost me $ 25 at most, I was wrong.The welding cost me $50, and a lot of time finding a welder that would do the job and traveling to the welder in another town and a second trip to the welder to retrieve the item. I believe the SENDER did not bother to look inside the box the item was returned in because the inner box was obviously the one it was returnd in which had the returners lable and it was a box that was from a manufacturer of smokers with lables to the person who returned the grate. As Amazon Warehouse is a part of Amazon I believe this type of omission is not what Amazon would condone based on my fantastic experence with Amazon over the years.
