Last winter, I burned 3 Yankee candles on my family room fireplace mantle. The damage from soot on the ceiling and walls was so great, it had to be cleaned prior to re-painting. Unfortunately for me, the room is so large (15' X 29'), I was unable to do the job by myself and, consequently, hired a disaster restoration company to do it for me. What did they use? The very same soot sponges I purchased. They worked so well that I can put off painting for another year. I used my sponges on the fireplace brick and, for the first time in many years, I once again like the look of the structure.

I am shocked at how well this worked for soot cleanup after a fire . it almost looks as if I painted

This product would probably work better on a fireplace that didn't have 30+ years of soot buildup. It did partially remove the buildup with a whole lot of elbo grease.

Honest reviews on Soot & Dirt Remover Sponge (K-42R)

I was in the cleaning and restoration industry for a bit, (IICRC certified for water, fire, smoke damage restoration) and this was the product they used to clean soot off the walls of fire damaged homes. While I do not know the brand the company used, its the same product.

If you have a candle and see the dark soot along the walls or ceilings, this is the product to use to clean it. Using a wet paper towel or Clorox wipes will SET the soot and stain the walls. My wife had a minor fire in the house, (was able to put it out, no one was hurt) and used Clorox wipes to clean the soot and now the soot is set into the paint. Now the area will need to be sealed and repainted (she didn't know any better, stuff happens).

Also, if you see corners of ceilings that have black spider webs, it is really a carbon chain of soot bonded ionically. Many people also assume the cobwebs they see in their homes are spider webs, when in reality, they are carbon chains of dust and dead skin cells.

We have a vent free propane fireplace and our walls were covered in soot, until we bought this sponge. No elbow grease needed, just wipe away. Our walls look so nice and clean now!

Outdoor GreatRoom Glass Fire Gems - 4 lbs. Reviews

Customer Ratings:

When you light the fire, the glass stones make it look like running water! They are so cool! However, I highly recommend that you buy at least 4 bags. One bag doesn't go very far.

I bit the bullet and purchased this item in blue as well as white. Not much product for the money but it does look great. It doesn't go very far. I purchased "fire pit" glass from another place and it was cheaper but looked it. Wish I could justify spending almost $200 on "glass".

apparently spending $1500 on a fire pit wasn't enough for a complete installation. Sadly, the Outdoor GreatRoom Company does not provide enough 'fire gems' for a proper looking fire bowl. Silly and frustrating omission.

These glass marbles look great in the fireplace; however, the bag didn't go very far. I had read that in previous reviews, but thought I might not need as many. I am ordering another bag to make it look more full.

These Ruby glass gems are very beautiful in a vase, not so much so in a firepit. You can barely see them.

I wanted an old fashioned "ash bucket" that my Grandma used to have. Looked all over and found it on Amazon.

Prompt delivery, nice weight and looks great beside the wood burner. Will definitely do business again when occassion arises. AAA+++

Seems like a well built bucket. Decent paint job and I like the handles being a part of the bucket itself, not an addon to unit.

Deliery was timely and it looks very nice by the fireplace, We used the fireplace almost daily this winter so we gave it a good "workout" I would say it is a good product for the price I paid.

This metal bucket looks just like the item displayed on Amazon, i.e. none too pretty but functional. The metal material allows placing hot ashes, and the spacing between the bottom of the bucket and the floor it is placed on avoids heating or burning the floor it stands on. It is not covered, so glowing coal placed in the bucket keeps glowing and will emit poisonous CO and CO2 gasses. It is great for the day-after ashes.

Review of Fireplace Mesh Screen Curtain. 29" High (9-29). Includes two

Customer Ratings:

The replacement mesh curtain looks great and was delivered faster than we expected and arrived in perfect shape. My only wish is that it was a little more full to give more of a drape effect. However, no one notices this but me. Using this replacement curtain saved us hundreds of dollars over buying the glass doors that we originally had planned. We use the fireplace a lot and the mesh curtain will be much more convenient than glass doors and looks very nice.

Review of Muskoka® Signature Series 5 Piece Matte Black Hearth Center

Customer Ratings:

Bought for our cabin. Wood storage area is not real large about 4 or 5 quartered logs will fit in it at once. The "logs" in the picture must be real small. Tools that come with it are very useful. Overall happy with it.

I used my fireplace some this winter and have been happy with this purchase. The only small complaint I have is the sweeper is quite brittle and straw breaks off alot.

I ordered this twice, and both times the grate I received was defective. The legs were uneven, which caused the grate to wobble when standing on a flat surface. When the first one came this way, I thought it was a problem with QC and returned it for a replacement. When the replacement had the exact same problem, I returned it for a refund and got one from a different manufacturer.

The grate wables. The floor in the fire place is level. The legs on the gate are almost 1/2" out of level. Dissapointed. Something else I have to fix. I could have purchased locally for same price or less and checked for levelness.

The grate arrived in two boxes and looked like it went through a war. When I opened the ripped boxes, a part of the grate had broken off and was wrapped in white paper and taped. The item description by the warehouse was" like new". I called amazon Customer Service and told them the problem. I explained that the boxes were so badly damaged that I could Not use them to return the item and suggested that I would have the broken piece welded back on locally. Customer Service issued me a $10 credit. Because I purchased the product at a discount I felt I could have it welded locally and save the outside packaging cost,[which would probably be conciderable] and Amazon the cost of returning the item and resending another one, which would be required, and still com out having saved something. Unfortunately I thought the cost of two tiny welds would cost me $ 25 at most, I was wrong. The welding cost me $50, and a lot of time finding a welder that would do the job and traveling to the welder in another town and a second trip to the welder to retrieve the item. I believe the SENDER did not bother to look inside the box the item was returned in because the inner box was obviously the one it was returnd in which had the returners lable and it was a box that was from a manufacturer of smokers with lables to the person who returned the grate. As Amazon Warehouse is a part of Amazon I believe this type of omission is not what Amazon would condone based on my fantastic experence with Amazon over the years.

The center bar in the series of log supports separated from the frame within 6 months.

Material is quite durable. The welded bond was not.

Grate was well worth the money. We burn a lot of good heavy logs and this grate worked well. Good heavy duty construction.
