For those whose homes are not architecturally blessed with a woodburning fireplace, this is a fantastic alternative especially for apartment dwellers it has a small footprint, but creates just the right focal point for a livingroom grouping; the design is classic (neither too contemporary nor too fusty-traditional). Since getting it, I have rushed home and looked forward each night to using it. It was the perfect holiday gift to myself a great backdrop for my holiday decorations and now a perfect spot for my new television (although I felt the need to reinforce it with a simple wood bracing structure first before setting the television atop it).

In case it is not clear, the structure consists mainly of the front mantle and surround facade there are no sides. It is made of particle board mostly, and the construction is not the sturdiest held together with screws and some L-brackets but perfectly adequate for its intended use. The superficial construction did not surprise me. It looks great, though and since I bought it mainly for aesthetic reasons, I am quite satisfied. The top is made of 3 sections it would be more attractive if it were one triangular top without seams, but I understand why for packing reasons it needed to be separated into the different pieces.

I have not used this yet with the gel cannisters, and may not only with candles and votives in separate holders that I put into the firebox. But I still feel like it creates a nice fireplace-like ambience with the flickering flames of the candles. In truth, without a chimney structure and in a NYC apartment, there isn't anyone (intelligent) who would be fooled into thinking this is a real fireplace, but I think it creates just the right focal point and effect a definite enhancement to my livingroom and apartment. Love it!

Last winter, I burned 3 Yankee candles on my family room fireplace mantle. The damage from soot on the ceiling and walls was so great, it had to be cleaned prior to re-painting. Unfortunately for me, the room is so large (15' X 29'), I was unable to do the job by myself and, consequently, hired a disaster restoration company to do it for me. What did they use? The very same soot sponges I purchased. They worked so well that I can put off painting for another year. I used my sponges on the fireplace brick and, for the first time in many years, I once again like the look of the structure.

I was in the cleaning and restoration industry for a bit, (IICRC certified for water, fire, smoke damage restoration) and this was the product they used to clean soot off the walls of fire damaged homes. While I do not know the brand the company used, its the same product.

If you have a candle and see the dark soot along the walls or ceilings, this is the product to use to clean it. Using a wet paper towel or Clorox wipes will SET the soot and stain the walls. My wife had a minor fire in the house, (was able to put it out, no one was hurt) and used Clorox wipes to clean the soot and now the soot is set into the paint. Now the area will need to be sealed and repainted (she didn't know any better, stuff happens).

Also, if you see corners of ceilings that have black spider webs, it is really a carbon chain of soot bonded ionically. Many people also assume the cobwebs they see in their homes are spider webs, when in reality, they are carbon chains of dust and dead skin cells.

Beware! If you're think you're getting a standard size looking fireplace, think again. It's about the size of a small guitar amplifier. No dimensions are given of it in how it's advertised so no way of knowing in advance how big it really is. I had to laugh when I received it because it was so tiny. I would not recommend this heater to anyone, don't care how good they say it heats! I returned it the very next day I received it. To make matters even worse I'm still waiting to be refunded, it's been a month ago that I returned it. Not sure who to blame here, Amazon or Heat Surge?

The fireplace set has a very nice appearance. The only way I could ever recommend this product is if you don't EVER plan on actually using it and plan to have it for decorative purposes only. The major flaw of this product is that after only a few uses the area that connects the poker and broom to the shaft of the tool becomes very loose. This was such a problem with the broom that I actually had to grab the broom at it's base to sweep. Also, the stand is loose/wobbly.

This is a horrible fireplace set. In appearance, it is striking. However, the handle screws together on each tool--this is a weak point in the construction of the fireplace tools, and after ONE use, the screwed-in ball top will no longer hold together on ANY piece in the set, so the handles are basically useless. The first time it happened, I was moving a log when the handle fell apart, sending sparks and coals onto the floor. Also, the stand wobbles and sways when racking or removing the tools.

In my opinion, this set should be sold as decorative, not functional. It seems to me almost negligent to label it as safe to use with an actual fire. I'm really disappointed.

Smaller than I envisioned but still hauls enough wood for a day if you stack it FULL. Parts did not line up and slip together easily, had to use a lot of force to flex tubes enough to complete assembly. Two of two screws I tried to install twisted the heads off before the screws were fully threaded into the tubes. Didn't end up needing any srews to hold it together because the sections are under so much tension used to ge it together it is never going to fall apart. Chintzy little cotter pins supplied to retain wheels on axle chewed up by wheels in first hour of use but easy to install my own better cotter pins with washers. Pnuematic tires arrive with zero air pressure so find the bicycle pump before use. It does haul a reasonable amount of wood fairly easily.

I bought these to have around an outdoor fireplace. Though a little on the light weight side they adequately moved small pieces of wood that i chopped and burn. After 7 times using them, i picked up a log that was a bit too big and the tongs twisted. when they twisted, that put pressure on the wood handles and one cracked. Instead of throwing them out i will replace the handles with good hardwood; just have to find the right piece, drill the handles out, and attach with epoxy. Still, after doing that these are for small campfires and not big logs.

This lighter is great and I loved it up until it ran out of fluid, which took about two months. I can't find anything like it that is refillable though. All of the refillable ones are straight and I prefer this. I wish they would make a refillable version.

The lighter is well-made and works well enough certainly better than the chintzy red plastic lighters that ARE refillable but do not have adjustable nozzles and do not last very long before the flame adjustment or the trigger quits working.

But this Bic Luminere lighter is not refillable. In two months it is landfill. Pure waste. I thought it was refillable, or never would have bought it.

I am giving this product 3 stars because the sealant is more like a hard glue. The glue penetrates the seal and makes it hard. I would up using some Permatex sealant from the auto parts store instead. The rope part of the kit is really good. Just get your own sealant.

I've used several of these in different sizes over the past couple of years (because it's the only brand my local Home Depot carries). Overall, I cannot recommend it. I've had no problem with installation but the gasket itself simply doesn't last. I find myself having to replace it every couple of months during the winter since the gasket turns black and starts crumbling away. (I light a fire approximately 3-4 times/week for 6-8 hours at a time.)

We have a Big Green Egg and were looking for a cheaper alternative to their brand of lump charcoal starters or their electric starter. After looking around and reading a lot of reviews, I decided to give these guys a try. They don't look like they do much, but they work perfectly for getting our lump charcoal going. I like to take a small square and put it on the end of a toothpick then light it and set it in the middle of the grill, surrounded by charcoal. They burn surprisingly hot and long and within minutes the grill is hot enough to use. They are all natural, unlike lighter fluid, and leaves no residue or taste on the food you grill. You get two packs, which will last you a long time. In fact, if you grill once or twice a week, you'll easily have enough for a year of grilling. There is very little to complain about here. They do have a strong, distinct smell, but it isn't like you'll be keeping these things on the middle of your dining table. One of my packs wasn't cut into individual squares, but I won't really complain about that as it only takes a few seconds to grab a knife and slice them up. Bottom line, if your looking for a good, clean charcoal starter, give these guys a shot, I think you will be very pleased with the results.

This product is really interesting, I had used the kerosene wood chips but they gave off a huge amount of smoke and the smell of oil. These fire starters are made from vegetable oil so they aren't flammable or toxic. I've been hearing these are getting more and more popular in Europe (these are from Denmark), makes sense to have them here in the USA as well. Product worked very well, lit a few blocks and they stayed lit for around 10 minutes, more than enough time to get things started. Definitely recommend giving them a try. This is a beautiful fireplace set. The detailing on it is very lovely. It is extremely sturdy because of the weight of both the stand and the tools. I was looking for something to put in my bedroom that could hold some socks, underwear, and some undershirts. I also wanted to be able to put my stereo, blu-ray player and tv on/in it. Finally, I wanted something that looked nice.

This item works PERFECTLY for my needs. It looks good. Making it took me, by myself, about 30 minutes. It's really easy to make. You will need a couple of extra tools like a wrench and a skinny screw driver. The included screwdriver was a bit too stubby for the feet.

All but the feet are made of wood. I would describe the paint as weathered black. There are hints of brown for the weathered look, so if you want jet black, then this isn't for you.

It fit my socks, shirts, underwear perfectly. The drawers could also be used to hold gadgets and doo dads I'm sure. It could also hide quite an array of dvds and blurays if you would like.

The open compartments are divided into 4 slots. I fit a laptop in one slot and a blu-ray player in another. On the other side, I didn't put the divider so that I could fit my rather large Yamaha Receiver.

This things looks great in my bedroom. And it is high enough to watch from my high bed. I have a memory foam topped extra thick queen mattress. And the TV is well above my bed's edge.

This stand is awesome. I love the color, the height, the four openings for components and the large drawers for media, manuals, or whatever. It was a breeze to put together. It really makes my 32" Flat screen TV, audio system, DVR, Cable box and other components look professional. I will give it a high 4 or low five only because the finish was knicked in a couple of minor places, nothing that a little shoe polish couldn't hide. Oh and did I mention it got to me a day earlier than was scheduled.

This is a wonderful tv stand! It goes up so high and it has plenty of space in all of its drawers for our DVDs. None of the drawers stick too, plus there's room for our ps3, gamecube, cable box, and our crappy VCR in the spaces in the top. It's more of an espresso color than a black though. We put it together in no time flat. I'd use a little wood glue on the dowels that come with any/all "build-it-yourself" pieces; It really helps add a little stability. It's not rock solid unfortunately so I dread the thought of moving with it and the feet are plastic (which is pretty unnoticeable). All in all though I'd give it 3.5-4 stars.

Maybe the reviewer who said his stand didn't look like the picture got the wrong model delivered. Mine looks exactly like the one in the picture, and it's really a nice quality product considering it's assemble-it-yourself furniture.

And perhaps the person who complained the stand wasn't stable enough skipped some of the instructions, such as to tighten the "hidden cams" 210 degrees, not 180 degrees. Also, the reason no glue is provided (or needed) for the metal pins is that they're only reinforcements next to some of the cams. My finished stand sure feels sturdy and stable and I never used glue.

That said, I'm in awe of anyone who can assemble this stand in 30 minutes. I'd advise most of us mere mortals to set aside several hours to complete the task. Over the years I've put together quite a few "knock down" shelves, cabinets and other furniture for my family. This stand has some of the better quality materials and one of the best illustrated instruction manuals I've come across. (The plastic foot mentioned by a reviewer is actually a fifth leg used as added support for the middle; that plastic seems easily as strong as the compressed board materials used for the other four legs.)

A potential buyer needs to know this stand is a huge puzzle to put together. Tallying up the pieces listed and meticulously illustrated in the manual, I counted 42 "parts," 159 pieces of hardware and 123 screws and nails. Unboxing and laying out all that stuff alone can take half an hour for many of us. Bear in mind this isn't just some bookshelf. It has four drawers, with all the glides, rails, grooved sides and pulls that they entail.

My advice: Set aside pretty much a whole afternoon to assemble this thing. Handle the parts carefully. (A black magic marker, though, can cover up nicks and dents if you make a mistake.) Read the instructions and, most importantly, look at the illustrations most carefully. Follow the sequence outlined in the manual. You'll have a nice, useful furniture assembled in 30 minutes and a few hours added in.

This piece isn't as sturdy as it looks. But then again I wasn't buying anything solid wood and for the money I spent it'll do. You can tell it's not anything sturdy by the amount of chipped pieces that come with it. One of the drawers flat out broke when we tried to insert it into it's case. We will have to go out and buy some wood glue and get that sucker back on there. Another downside to this is it comes in like 200 pieces, you have to build every single part including the drawers, nobs etc. Would I buy it again? nope. Hubs and I decided that we'd rather spend more for something sturdier and already built.

I'm inclined to doubt that this weighs only three pounds. It's HUGE and quite heavy. I suppose in some circumstances, that would be called for; sadly, it's overkill for my house. It's much too heavy to install in the place I had intended it for. The size isn't the item's fault, though a low weight listing is.

And it ships with these two tiny little screws. Laughably tiny. By the time you hang anything from this hook, they will completely rip out of anything screw them into. That alone makes this a bad buy -anyone trying to use this with those screws is in for a bad time.

If you need a gigantic metal hook with serious presence, and know how to mount something big and heavy at angles, then go for it. If you want to hang a planter on your back porch, bring your engineering degree. And more significant hardware.

Great value for large hanging bracket. Would shop from Zuo Modern again. This same bracket was more on other sites. The only issue is the same as other reviewers have pointed out, the screws that come with the bracket are too small. They will not hold the weight of the bracket, let alone with something hanging off of it. NIt's not difficult to find longer, sturdier screws that will fit, however. Fast delivery, minimum packaging.
