We recently purchased a new home with a gas fireplace. We discovered we needed a blower to make it more than a nice architectural feature. My husband checked several websites before discovering this one at a substantially lower price. We received it quite quickly. There were no directions so we didn't have a clue how to connect it. However, it was installed in minutes by a professional.

I priced the same thing at Canadian pireplace stores and they wanted $299.

I purchased at $49.95. The shippin and duty brought the total to just under $100 but still less than a third of the cost from a Canadian retailer.

This fan was a great replacement for my Majestic Fireplace fan. The unit plugged in to the original wiring. After removing the Velcro from the original fan and placing it on the new fan, the fan fit perfectly and is very quiet.

Very powerful and inexpensive solution to very expensive brand specific blowers. The manufacturers sure try to take advantage of people when a universal like this, along with an $6 automatic on/off thermostat switch may even be a better bet.

The following applies to glass doors that have a fair amount of soot on them. Lately I have not been able to buy Rutland 84 Hearth and Glass cleaner in my area, it is a creamy consistency cleaner designed to take the soot off of glass doors with a little scrubbing. I've tried everything else available in our area including Rutland spray bottle (a liquid, not the same product as the 84 which is a cream) and four other brands that say they are fireplace glass door cleaners. I've tried white vinegar and wood ashes on a paper towel, which by the way works better than the other products but not as good as Rutland 84. Rutland 84 takes a few minutes to completely clean doors, the vinegar/ashes takes 10-15 minutes and you should take the doors off and lay horizontal (a pain!) and I don't think the vinegar is good for the door seal gasket. The other brands, including glass top stove cleaner, take a half hour of scrubbing and still leave a lot of soot on the door, they suck. I've had several types of fireplace inserts including my current Blaze King Princess, which is wonderful, but they all soot the glass after a week or so, without Rutland 84 I would not want to make a fire!!

I bought this cleaner (Rutland #84) to clean off the soot from the glass of my wood-burning fireplace. It works fantastically well. A small amount of this blue pasty substance and a soft cloth do the trick every time. This is a slightly abrasive cleaner, so for less thick soot I use the non-abrasive #82 Rutland cleaner instead, which is a clear fluid. That one also works quite well without being abrasive. It creates nasty stains on wood floors, however, so beware putting the bottle directly on wood floors in case some substance runs down the side.

I had my doubts that anything could take of years (decades?) of soot in our wood stove. Now that I've used this, I'm a believer. It completely cleaned glass that was almost completely obscured by the soot.

Application was easy just rub in with damp paper towels, then wipe clean with a dry paper towel. It didn't take a lot of effort, either, just some patience, and a pile of paper towels.

I highly recommend this product. It'd be a steal at twice the price.

I read the reviews and thought I'd give it a try. I was amazed how much more efficient our wood burnt. It burned hotter, longer and completely in this self-feeding rack. I don't know how it does it, but it does cut way back on the down drafts also. I'm very pleased with this purchase and will definitely buy it again (If the one I have ever needs replacing) Well worth the money spent.

This grate was exactly what I was looking for and it is exactly as described. Delivery was shockingly fast (Amazon claims I shouldn't have it yet!) and in time for an all-day Thanksgiving fire in the fireplace, not to mention many other delightful evenings around the fireplace. Because I need such a big size and use my fireplace multiple times a week during the colder months, I wanted a good grate. This one has lived up to my expectations already. It is definitely worth the price.

We've had this heater for several months and use it every night. It's used to supplement heat in a 15'x18' bedroom and heats that space up very quickly. I think the 'flame' looks quite realistic...just understand that it's not a real flame but they did a pretty good job representing a flame. The heat is blown from the bottom of the unit out to the front. The noise level is low, but the fan does stay on throughout the night whether the heat is on or off. But, we have two other Lasko ceramic room heaters and they are definitely louder than this. The thermostat function works very well. Please note, though, that the thermostat is not set by degrees. The first time you turn on the heater, you turn up the thermostat knob to the highest mark then when the room reaches the temperature you want, you turn the knob back until the heating turns off...that becomes your room heat point for the unit. It does work fine once you set it up. The remote turns the unit on and off only no heat adjustment, but we haven't had a need to adjust the heat once we set the thermostat and I like the on/off remote. The unit seems to be constructed well -I've seen different brands like this made of mostly plastic but that's not the case with this one. It's pretty compact as well so it fits nicely in most spaces. I wouldn't expect it to heat a large area (I haven't tried though), but I don't think it's made for that. Overall we're very pleased with it so far and hope that it lasts a long time.

I have always wanted a fireplace in my bedroom. At the back of the house, the room get's chilly at night and, also, I love the ambiance of a fireplace. My Dimplex Electric Stove arrived two weeks ago. I read the manual, plugged it in, put the battery in the remote and there it was! An instant wood-burning stove. It is so attractive and so easily moved from room to room. Honestly, the flames look real. Even when the stove is turned off, the logs are designed to have a little glow that looks like the dying embers of a fire. There is a very quiet fan underneath that blows out the heat and when I set the temperature control, it's just right to take the chill off in the bedroom. I almost didn't buy it because of some reviewers who were not happy with the thermostat. Maybe they did not read the manual. You have to turn the temperature control knob all the way to the right, until you hear a soft click. Then you turn it counterclockwise until just the right amount of heat is coming out. It will "set" that temperature and keep it there. I've had mine on for 8 hours and it still puts out the same gentle heat. The other thing I LOVE is that the manual says you can turn off the heat and still have the flames and the glowing logs without heating up your room. Awesome because on summer nights where I live, it's never cool enough to have a fire in our regular living room fireplace. If I ever want to enjoy the glow of a fire on summer nights, I will be able to click my remote control and have the beautiful glow and atmosphere without heating up the room. I checked out the Dimplex web site before I bought this and was so impressed with how they use the latest innovations to make the flames and glowing logs/embers look real. They really do. The stove itself is so cute. The door really opens. By the way, the unit itself does not get hot. So, there is no danger of burning yourself if you touch it. I am so pleased. When we have guests, I might just put it in the guest room for them to enjoy since it is so easy to move.

When I was looking to purchase an electric stove, I couldn't find a decent video of how the flames looked. I made this video with the heater running, and no other sounds in the room. When the heater switch is turned off and you are using the stove solely for the ambiance of the flames, it's even more quiet. If you have the TV or radio on, you can barely hear the heater fan. It's much quieter than I thought it would be. (There IS a rhythmic hum, but it's not loud enough to be distracting and I'm right up in front of the unit so it will be louder than if you're sitting 8 to 10 feet away).

The heater is attached to the bottom, and there is approximately a 1-1/2" clearance, so if you place this directly on carpeting, most of the heat exiting the heater will warm the carpet up quite well. I purchased some 18" x 18" cement blocks made to look like bricks from a local home improvement store, and stacked them to form a faux hearth.

Another thing you might want to get if you miss the crackling noise that you can only get from a "real" fire: Crackling Fire download this to your MP3 player or burn it to a CD and play it softly in the background.

I've also uploaded a few photos.

I'm giving this a 3-star rating ("It's OK") because although I'd argue it's one of the better stoves in this class, I think this class is lousy and lacks some basic features, I guess maybe because no one would be willing to pay $300+ for an electric faux-fireplace...

I'm not really going to speak much to its heating ability because the fact is that a 1300W forced air heater is a 1300W forced air heater, regardless of the form it comes in. No space heater will give much more than 1300W because then you're into blown circuit territory.

I personally have this unit setup about 2-3' from my recliner in the living room (it's in front of my fireplace), so it is basically heating the area around my feet, I think it seems to be working well, but then I don't expect it to do much more than kick the room temp up about 1-2* higher than the central heating is set for, my room is a 15x15 room with two double-sized openings to other spaces...

Also, a word of warning that I heeded thanks to another reviewer: The first time this unit is turned on it STINKS. There is some sort of oil or something on the heating element. It gives of a distinct burning smell. Had I not already opened the windows in the room, and the adjacent room, I have no doubt my smoke detector may have gone off (which in my case means 5-6 units on all levels yelling "SMOKE DETECTED! EVACUATE! EVACUATE!" and can get really annoying very fast!!)

Pro's:

It's got a metal top/sides. It's not overly heavy, but does feel nice and solid

The "fire" effect and glowing logs are surprisingly nice

Overall appearance is quite nice

It does make some noise (the fan) but it's not loud, and it's a deep rushing noise, so it's easy to tune out

Con's:

I would have liked to see a heavier cord, 3-prong cord. With a metal body and resistive-heating elements that seems important to me

The remote will only turn the unit on/off, it will not let you change the temperature

There is no way to run the heating part w/o the fake flames (I suppose I could unscrew the light bulb...)

MOST IMPORTANT: There is no way to adjust the power consumed by the heating element (more on the below)

I used a non-contact thermometer to measure a few things for anyone interested:

Output at the grill, 250-350*F (it's HOT, you should be careful of small children around this unit, and be very careful of objects anywhere near the underside)

Floor in front of the unit, 120*F (I have the stove placed on the tile floor in front of my fireplace, there is a lot of thermal mass there... I'd be seriously hesitant to place this on a medium/deep pile carpet)

Most important: The plug/cord, 85*F (this measurement was taken after the stove was continuously heating for over FOUR HOURS. This was my biggest concern because I read another review here where someone said the cord/plug got hot to the touch--my cord/plug are not getting "hot", but they are warm. I think after four hours I've reached a steady state where it won't get any hotter, so my conclusion here is that this is not a significant problem. Tho, I would add however, that the outlet I'm plugged into is a new outlet, so it is not loose like one that is 15+ years old. You might consider replacing the outlet you plug this into if you notice your plug/cord getting more than just warm--new outlet is cheap, only a buck or two, and replacement is generally easy, everyone probably knows someone who can do it)

Here is my biggest grip about this stove, and this class of stoves in general:

This thing draws 1360W when operating w/ the heating element on... a typical 15A circuit will trip at 1800W, so there isn't much head room here. I really would have appreciated at least a 2-level heating element setting so that I could optionally run the stove at ~700W instead. I have an oil filled electric radiator with 3-element settings, it only cost $40 and has an LCD display and electronic controls... not sure why this stove at 4X the price cannot have the same.

I bought this thermometer for use with my Jotul wood stove to monitor stove temperatures. The stove literature says that the stove should be operated between 400 and 600 degrees (F) for best results and the break in instructions recommended 3 fires to temperatures of 200, 300 and 400 degrees, so I decided I'd better have a thermometer.

I initially bought an Inferno stove _pipe_ thermometer at a stove store because that was all they had. Once I read the instructions for that thermometer, they said it wasn't recommended for stove _top_ use, so I bought this thermometer online. The recommendation is apparently because of the temperature range markings, not because of any difference in the thermometers actual performance. Once I had the chance to compare the two, both of the thermometers read very similar temperatures, this one has the correct ideal range (400-600) labeled on it. The stove pipe thermometer would be fine if you use the temperature, not the colored zones marked on the thermometer. The two appear to be identical except for the painted range.

I'm a tool geek, so I also bought an infrared thermometer (Kintrex) to check my two stove thermometers. The IR thermometer works quickly and seems to be very accurate. It shows that when the stove is warming up, the Inferno thermometers lag by as much as 50-100 degrees. Once the stove temperature has stabilized, they agree with the IR measurement very well. Another thing the Kintrex thermometer shows is that each of the four corners of the stove can be a very different temperature as the stove is heating up. This variance can be 100 degrees or even more. Once the stove is up to temperature, the four corners will be within 10-20 degrees of each other.

As long as you remember there will be a lag while the stove is heating up and the fact that one corner's temperature alone isn't going to be an exact representation of the whole stove temperature, this should be a useful tool as you learn to use your stove.

OK, so this is only a thermometer so I won't write a long review, but I have to say that this little device helps me operate my wood stove better. It helps me know when I have the stove "overfired" or when I need to add more wood and turn up the oxygen. We've named the zones "Papa Bear" (too hot), Mama Bear (too cold) and Baby Bear (just right). Yeah . . . I know, but I have young kids.

I purchased two of these for our wood stoves at the cottage. They really help you burn at a safe level which in turn conserves wood and avoids excess creosote as they say. The only suggestion, and I don't know if it can be done, is to make the arrow a bright color so it is easier to see in dim lighting conditions. I would rather not turn on a light just to read the stove temperature. If the arrow were brighter, I would definetely give it 5 *****

This magnetic thermometer helps me control the wood stove temperature and minimize creosote in my chimney. Also helped with the break-in of my new Jotul wood stove. If you operate a wood stove I would highly recommend this unit. It is also made in the USA!

We purchased this thermometer after trying two others (we have two wood stoves): 1. We purchased a "Rutland" at our local ACE hardware. This thermometer seemed accurate but is difficult to read without getting very close, because of the colors. 2. Then we purchased a "Meeco Red Devil" thermometer from Menards. This thermometer had an attractive white background that was very easy to read without getting very close when we bought it. However, after using this "Meeco" product for a few days, the attractive white background turned a light tan/brown that is difficult to read without getting very close. Also this "Red Devil" thermometer showed about 100 degrees hotter than the "Rutland" thermometer. 3. After getting the "Inferno" thermometer from Amazon.com we found that it registered the same as the "Rutland" thermometer but is much easier to read from an easy distance away. The Inferno has kept its original attractive colors. We recommend the "Inferno" as the best choice.
