Reviews of Cast Iron Fireback With Oak Leaf Design

Cast Iron Fireback With Oak Leaf Design

I really like this fireback. It was really heavy and fit my fireplace well. My living room *finally* has warmed up with my woodburning fire. I did not buy the feet to go with it but I learned quickly that I should get them. The fireback fell forward after a couple of hours blocking the flu (resulting in smoke coming into the house) and I couldn't position it correctly because of the heat. I did go ahead and order the feet but I know for sure this fireback works well.

This is my second Southern Enterprises Fireplace, after moving into a much larger home I wanted another. Does take a bit of time to assemble however easy to follow instructions. Looks great and I many guests do not realize it is a free standing piece of furniture. I love the convenience of gel fuel so this is a perfect piece for me and my home.

I have a POS Broan BP87 damper and when it gets windy the thing smacks and bangs loudly, I mean loud. In fact so loud you can hear it upstairs "crack!!" and it makes people jump. This is a brand new home, with a Broan BP87 Hood and this damper is a complete POS. The flaps are flimsy, not even really hinged. It seals nicely however when it is closed and prevents any backdrafts.

However, Broan, could you have spent like 3-5 cents to at least just put a simple cheap foam seal around the edges where the flaps make contact to prevent that metal on metal sound and another piece of foam in between so the flaps can't smack against eachother when they lift? I would easily have paid twice the $7.00 or whatever the Broan/Nutone BP87 sells for just to have a cheap 3 cent foam seal and another piece just to keep the flaps from smacking against eachother when they both lift vertically. Instead it sounds like gun shots are going off when it's windy!

Well, I was looking for a better replacement with an actual hinge and a spring to add a little bit of resistance to help prevent the wind from lifting the flaps up so easily and causing them to smack around so then tried the Air King E-22A.

Unfortunately the Air King E-22A is just a different kind of POS. It has hinge in the center, a spring and feels better constructed than the Broan BP87 but the SPRING IS SO WEAK I CAN GENTLY BLOW ON IT AND IT LIFTS UP!! This is not just a weak spring, it's a completely useless spring that allows this one to bang just like the Broan BP87. Not only that there is absolutely nothing to keep on flap from rolling over ontop of the other on the other side, which could easily happen while you don't even know it allowing lots of draft. Additionally the Air King E-22A's flaps don't seal where there are large gaps on the sides which defeats the purpose of a damper (to keep outside air, especially cold air out!).

Again very dissappointed, two companies, one Broan/Nutone and now Air King, both these companies have been in the ventilation business for a long time, why make products when they are practically useless or completely flawed? These sell for so cheap I'd easily pay double just for a decent damper for my range hood. THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE and a concept this simple shouldn't be that difficult. Now I feel like I have to build my own because these two companies can't.

I don't typically feel compelled to leave reviews just because I don't really like a product but this is something so simple it boggles my mind how two large companies in the industry could make them so flawed.

Broan/Nutone and Air King Listen UP! Make a "decent" damper that does a pretty decent job sealing drafts and doesn't bang, smack, crackle and pop, pay an extra few cents to make them and PEOPLE WILL GLADLY PAY TWICE AS MUCH AS YOU ARE CURRENTLY SELLING THEM FOR!! You can also advertise that they don't bang around!

I bought another BP87 to see if I can modify the stupid thing to not smack, crackle, pop loudly when it gets windy. My plan was to try and put a thin strip of foam around where the flaps make contact. SOMETHING BROAN COULD HAVE EASILY DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE FOR 3-5 CENTS AND JUST PASSED ON THE COST! I was able to cut the noise down by doing this but ended up having to bend the flaps to close properly and not jam, still seemed like it might jam, just to flimsy, not worth it.

UPDATE: I did send Broan a copy of my review and a link to the other one star reviews. They claim it isn't a common issue that they know of and sincerely apologized and recommended that an outside damper also be used. I told them that I felt it may not have been a problem if it was vented through the roof with the increased distance that the wind would have to travel and agree with the end cap w/damper. Unfortunately our builder didn't and it's stucco'd in. Broan offered to reimburse me for the BP87 but I explained it wasn't really about the cost, it's more about this making our new home buying experience miserable and having to rip out our hood range in our new home to search high and low for a decent solution.

UPDATED / SOLUTION, purchased Aldes 7" Backdraft Damper Model BDD7

Only thing is I had to carefully pop out the hinge rod by pulling on the sides and slide off the springs on each side, leaving just one spring in the middle because the damper didn't open on my fan's low setting because my fan moved so little air on the low setting where all 3 springs were too much resistance for the flaps. It has a soft rubber seal that the flaps fall on so no more metal on metal noise, has a real hinge and a spring. Just inserted the foam seal end into the top of my 7" range hood, used foil tape to secure it so it doens't push down when I reinstall the range hood into the ducting. NO MORE snap, crackle popping when its windy!! It's also more energy efficient by not opening when windy like the Broan BP87!

I just can't understand how it could be so difficult to find a good 7" Hood Range Damper which is the most common size but I'm glad I finally found it!! I really hope this helps some one out there in the same situation!!

I bought this item and assisted a professional heating and AC contractor to attempt to install it above my kitchen range vent. It fit easy enough when attached to the unmounted fan/vent unit but clanked noisily when the fan is turned off. I've seen other reviews warning of this vent rattling noisily when the wind blows and I can see that happening as flimsy and light as the blades are. The only way I would resort to using this light a unit is if my kitchen vent fan was less than 100 CFM. In that case, you probably need to go buy a whole new vent anyway, because the one you have isn't exhausting enough air to bother with having it installed. My fan produces 250 CFM and could easily open the blades of a heavier duty unit. Even with three of us working together, the installer barely touched the damper from below while reinstalling the kitchen vent/fan unit and it warped, making it unusable. There is no center hinge, but merely a bend in the lightweight aluminum that "butts against the matching opposite one" to simulate a hinge. If either side of the "butterfly" slips loose or wears or bends, the whole apparatus is lost because it will no longer close cleanly.

I found another model on Amazon that has a center hinge and is actually $3 cheaper (they make it up on the shipping, so it's about the same total cost). It's a Lambro #1350 7" Aluminum In-Line Damper, and I recommend you order that instead. I haven't installed it yet, but the photo looked much better than the one above.

The damper can be a little noisy when it's windy, but otherwise works great. More importantly, the actual label on the item says it fits more models than were listed in the description:

Honest reviews on Broan BP87 7-Inch Vertical Discharge Damper

Needed a 7" dia duct damper to keep out drafts this winter. It's hard to find

one in the 7" dia size. I ordered one last summer and it broke. The two thin

aluminum damper halves came unhinged and fell down into the fan.

I ordered some more in November. I figured that I could alter the damper to

make it last more than 45 minutes. It took OVER THREE weeks for them to arrive.

To strengthen the hinge pivot of the two damper halves, I used two small patches

of tape to keep them from coming unhinged. I would not recommend this item from

Broan because it is extremely fragile. If you have access to another vendor for

this item I suggest you try them instead.

When I replace my hood (Fan & Light)over my stove, it came with a rectangle shape hood damper, mine is round. I would of have to replace and move the duct work. This just slip right in. Save me alot of work.

A nice item that works well. I installed it into a Selkirk Supervent 6" double-wall tee. It seems kind of expensive for how simple it is. They should also sell a cover for it to put over when you aren't using the woodstove, to keep air from going out your chimney constantly.

Very nice! It exceeded my expectations. Heavy gauge steel. Decent welds. The floral scroll work looks a little..too much in the pictures but is very nice in real life. Heavy duty masonry fasteners included, but would have been nice if masonry drill bit had been also. I used fasteners I already had with drill bit size I already had instead and it worked fine. I bought the 24 inch. It is actually 24 inches from wall to tip, more like 22 inches from wall to center of hook where pot hangs.

I would not hesitate to buy again!

I've been looking for a chair like this for years, but never got around to buying one until recently. The assembly was surprisingly easy given how many parts came in the box. The design and build quality is good overall, but here are the reasons I'd say it's only "ok" and I don't "love it":

(1) It's vinyl, not leather. The type of vinyl chosen feels cheaper to me than some other vinyls. BMW, Mercedes, and Audi for example all use a high-quality "leatherette" that feels like leather but is actually more durable and easier to clean. Not that I'd expect the same quality of leatherette as in a luxury car, but given the steel and wood frame (which are of high quality), I would have been willing to spend a few extra bucks on nicer leatherette.

(2) It's Chinese. The chair comes with a faint smell of volatile organic compounds and tons of Styrofoam packaging and tape.

(3) The chair squeaks a bit even with all the bolts and nuts tightened down.

(4) The side table is a bit odd in that it cannot stay locked in one place. It swings back and forth along a horizontal plane-even if at times you don't want it to.

(5) The biggest problem with this chair overall is one huge design flaw: There is no real mechanical way to lock the chair in the upright, reclined, or in-between positions. There is instead a friction locking mechanism applied by tightening down a screw knob. You really have to screw it down extremely tight and-even then-you occasionally get a surprise while trying to sit up, when the chair suddenly wants to recline.

Given the relatively low cost of the chair, I'm going to keep it. But I will be keeping my eyes open for a higher quality version.

The product claims to work for both stove tops and wood burning stoves. Used it on my stove top to gauge if I had a bad element. Temprature needle would jump up instead of raising smoothly. Let it cool looked closely at back poor coil temp spring design to blame. Tested on my dad's pot belly wood burning stove got same results.

The thermometer is reliable enough, but the magnet is not strong enough. A few times now when the stove is hot the unit falls off, and of course is too hot to pick up and put back right away.

I ordered one of these at the same time my husband bought a different kind from farm and fleet. This is great quality and way more durable than the one he picked up. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is because it's a bit difficult to get up off the stove...the one my husband got had a little wire on it that made it easy to move.

This is a fantastic product! You will probably sleep a little warmer than if you were on a bare mattress, but it doesn't create the kind of heat a foam topper would. This topper actually breathes pretty well, and is OH so cozy! And the fiber refluffs wonderfully!

Best Deals for ALL SEASON DOWN ALTERNATIVE MATTRESS TOPPER (Twin, Full, Queen

This mattress topper added noticeable comfort to my less expensive mattress. I plan on buying a second one. The filling didn't bunch up like typical feather beds do.

Honest reviews on ALL SEASON DOWN ALTERNATIVE MATTRESS TOPPER (Twin, Full, Queen

It arrived 2 days sooner than promised in excellent undamaged condition, exactly as described. I've only had it a week, but I did WEEKS of research before purchasing, reading thousands of user reviews on various toppers. Based on what I learned from those reviews, here is what I can say about this topper so far:

It appears to be well constructed, I have found no places on it where the stitching was weak or crooked, or anything like that. Oh, and each baffled square is evenly filled. I'd read some user reviews on other, similar toppers complaining of drastically uneven fill from one square to another, so I just wanted to put it out there that this topper does *not* have that issue.

I'm happy to report that it has stayed put on the mattress even though it does not have corner straps. Even before my mattress cover/protector arrived, it simply stayed where I put it on the mattress, under the sheet, unless I lifted the sheet and moved it deliberately. I was worried that would be a problem, but I'm pleased to report that it doesn't slide around.

There is minimal flattening of loft when I wake, and I simply smack the area I slept on with a side sweeping motion a few times before I make the bed, and it fluffs right back up to it's pre-sleep loft. This takes me all of fifteen seconds before I pull the top sheet up over the bed. I will be rotating/flipping it each time I change the sheets (weekly) to ensure this remains the case, as it is quite easy to do even by myself, and only takes a couple of minutes to do. I plan to do the same to the mattress itself on a monthly basis.

I do have to say, however, that I took the advice I'd read in a lot of user reviews on this and other sites, and ordered a king size topper for my queen sized bed. I'm so glad I did! Because it's large enough to hang off the sides of my bed a bit, I can push the small space between rows created by the channels even closer together, leaving no space between rows of squares on the topper at all. Because of this, it's even fluffier! SO SOFT. My mattress is firm and supportive, but the pressure point pain kept my fibromyalgia in constant flare. The softness that now rests atop that supportive firmness has reduced my pressure point pain by quite a large measure, and my chronic flare is reducing in severity with each day that goes by.

I spun the topper two days ago when I washed the sheets. (Next time I'll flip it it's lightweight enough for me to do that easily, and I believe it will keep it in new condition longer.) Now it is about two inches short at the foot of the bed but my toes don't care, they don't reach that far! This left even MORE extra width on the sides, which I fluffed and moved the rows together to eliminate. This thing now appears to be five inches high on top of my mattress. My 18 year old son laid down on my bed for a minute to talk to me, and was immediately out like a light. He is telling his friends how comfy my bed is now, and he has twice begged to take a nap on my bed. That hasn't happened since he was four.

And it doesn't sleep hot like memory foam! Previously I had a memory foam pillow top mattress, and that thing was miserable for holding the body heat I'd often wake in a sweat. This topper says it's all-weather, and I do believe it's going to live up to its title. I have yet to wake too hot or too cold, and we have already had nights when it was 80 degrees out, and also nights when it dropped to 63 in the house by morning. I've slept temperature comfortable every night on it so far.

When the time comes to clean it (which will be a long while, as I've made sure to add a mattress protector over the topper, under the sheet), I will be more than happy to take it to a Laundromat, put it in a large capacity front-loading washer and run it on the gentlest cycle. I won't even mind putting it in the largest capacity dryer and waiting while it fluff/dries on NO HEAT. Why? Because I used to work in a dry cleaners/laundry, and I know how expensive it would be to dry clean. Think about the cleaning requirements before you buy a topper! Call a nearby dry cleaners and get an estimate quote on cleaning a mattress topper that is Dry Clean Only, and keep that info in mind before you purchase your topper. Machine washable is the way to go. No more often than this topper will need cleaned, I do not have a problem with the "hassle" of going to the Laundromat. I'll simply take my Kindle and enjoy a good book while I wait on the machines. :)

This is the most wonderful bed topper like sleeping in a cloud of comfort. My husband can barely get out of bed in the morning. This is the most comfortable addition to a night's sleep. It is very reasonably priced also. Every 2 weeks I switch the direction it is in so that we get more fluff, so that our bodies are on the part that our feet had been. That works well. I would recommend this to anyone. It has made a huge impact on how sound we sleep it also motivated me to buy some really nice Egyptian cotton sheets WHEW, wish I was in bed now HA
