Alright, they do smell like chemicals when burning, in a campfire setting. However, if your chimney has good draft, you cannot smell them when burning in a fireplace. And they do tell you in the instructions not to cook over them, makes sense.
I find it useful (since they're spherical and tend to want to wander off) to use the barbeque tongs to place them exactly where I want them.
As long as I can afford beauty in my life, I'll make these cones part of my fire burning tradition (along with Lightning Nuggets to help get the fire started, and burning to death some Johnsonville brats, also known as meat candy...hoo, yeah!)

We took these with us for a family camping trip this summer. We added them to our campfire at night (only about 3 were needed) and found the colors to be both beautiful and relaxing to watch. The children loved it!
