This product came in with a hole in the screen, but beside that, it is way too light to safely put in front of a fire.

This log rack was/is a pain. I go through about 4 cords of wood a year, and it's not holding up.

First, the slots for the wood, are tight. 2x4's are made by hundreds of mills, and have sloppy tolerances. The bracket maker should have known this, and labeled the the part as needing tight dimensions. I had to plane all the corners down, AND beat the parts together. I used 9x3 deck screws to tie the lumber together, and the ends still splay out as you load wood into the middle. But it has not broken, so that is good.

And who invented powder coat paint? It's fine till it chips off.

Just put your 2 x 4's in and start stacking wood. A strong cord could be added to top of uprights to help support a waterproof cover if desired, or place in a covered storage area. Works out great for me.

I burn three to four cords of wood in my stove each year. I have a cord of wood on my back porch and with Log Rack Brackets I made a 8'x16' rack in my garage for two more cords of wood. They work very well and are made of good gage material. Nice thing is when you have used up your wood you can take the rack apart and store till next use.

Not as exact as Seymour 30-360. Must use pressure-treated wood or is really sloppy. You MUST use screws to get a solid fit .

This is a very nice, well-made plant stand. However, I did not realize it was so small, so it did not work out well for me, as it is too small to hold the plants I wanted to display on it.

It's worth the price. I really like it. I have it in a corner in my living room where the sun comes in.

I made the mistake of not checking the demensions of this plant stand before I ordered. It is very small at 18" high. The holders are 5" in diameter too, so only a small planter can fit into the cup. People that have cascading plants know that they are generally large, 10" or better. It's best to think and measure and not assume the high price makes it larger than it is. The company was good about the return but the fault was mine.

M-Series Grate Wall of Fire - 21"W x 15"H Review

M-Series Grate Wall of Fire - 21'W x 15'H
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars
Buy Now
I have owned a grate wall of fire and fireback for about two months now, and I am pretty well pleased with my purchase. The fire is easy to light ( although I do cheat and use a gas firestarter), I have not had any problems with smoking, and it burns the wood thoroughly, leaving only a relatively fine ash. The vertical wood-stack makes for a very aesthetically pleasing fire, and although it is difficult to make a quantitative assessment, it does seem to generate more heat than a standard wood-burning fireplace, but certainly not in the same league with a wood stove. On a recent night with outside temperatures in the low 20's, with pretty strong winds, burning seasoned oak, the "grate wall" raised the temperature of a rather large room with high (20' +) ceilings by 3 degrees. This may seem rather insignificant, but to me, 70 degrees is a whole lot more comfortable than 67.

In summary, if you are looking for maximum heat output from a wood-fire, I would recommend looking elsewhere, but if you want the aesthetics of a wood fire, with some improvement in efficiency ,which is what our goal was, the grate wall is not a bad choice

I did a lot of research on this product before purchasing and wondered if it would solve our smoke in the house problem with our fireplace. We are 200% happy with this product. We were able to create a beautiful fire on the first try. I was concerned that a "vertical fire" would take away from the ambiance but just the opposite. We had a smoke problem with our fireplace. We replaced the flue, had it cleaned but still had a problem on occasion so we purchased the product hoping it would work as promised. We have had five fires now and NO SMOKE and today we have 40 mile an hour winds and we have a perfect fire going with no blow back into the house. It has worked exactly as promised, was very simple to stack the wood as instructed, the fire starts quickly and burns very efficiently. We did not have the money this year to put in a wood burning stove. With this grate we have been able to keep our large family room very comfortable even with the heat turned down significantly. I highly recommend this product to anyone with a fireplace that throws smoke back into their home or looking to have a grate that really will help warm your home. And I love the way the fire looks and the way the ambers glow....much better than any other grate we have EVER had.

This is a fantastic idea! How many times have you felt an immediate difference in the amount of heat coming from your fireplace when you move a log away from the front of the fire to expose the coals? And if you have experience building fires, you know that adding logs to the perimeter of a fire helps reflect heat back into the combustion region and is sometimes helpful to get a sluggish fire going. Unfortunately, the heat output drops immediately when the radiation path is blocked by the log. This concept addresses both those issues and more. The glowing embers are always at the bottom of a fire, and with this concept, they do radiate heat into the room. The back wall of the fireplace (and the logs on the top) reflect heat back into the combustion region, so the fire burns strongly with minimal futzing. Something else the inventors don't even mention on their website (where these products are less expensive) is that adding logs to the top of the fire also pre-heats the logs and helps to drive moisture out. Wonderful system. I wish the products weren't so expensive, though. Especially the Reflective Fire-Back. Their 1" thick 15" x 21" reflective fire-back is $407 on their web-site, while a piece of steel 12" by 24" by 1" thick from Metals Depot (dot com) is only $147 (shipping is free). Difficult to understand the need for a 2.5x markup for a flat piece of steel. The actual markup is probably higher, as they almost certainly get the steel wholesale or even as scrap. this is the only reason this product gets 4 stars instead of 5. Fortunately, I did not need to worry about the reflective fire-back.

If you have any doubts about whether or not this product will make a big enough difference to justify the expense, you may be able to do what I did. I *almost* purchased the T5 Grate Wall of Fire fire grate and the 3/8" reflective back plate ($354 'value'). I just couldn't justify the expense. Instead I walked away from the computer, went to the kitchen and made a cup of coffee. When I came back into the room I went to the fireplace, tipped my fire grate up (fire and all using welding gloves, of course) and pushed it up tight against the back wall. Then I threw half a dozen small pieces of wood on top of the coals. The heat output was immediately obvious. My normal fire grate is similar to the Panacea Products Corp Blk Cast Iron Grate 15430, only it is 24" long. I think you can get something like it at Lowe's for about $20. As I said, I was fortunate that I do not need to worry about the brick and mortar of my fireplace. Your mileage may vary, of course, and you should be very careful if you don't have good fire-brick or if your chimney is damaged. You could probably stack fire-brick along the back wall or purchase a piece of steel from an online metals supplier. A 12" x 24" piece of steel 3/8" thick will cost about $45. (vice $200). The legs on my grate are tapered out, so with the grate firmly up against the back wall there is no danger of the grate tipping forward. You might want to stack up a couple pieces of fire brick (or even just pavers) under the upper legs if there is any chance of your grate tipping back.

As I said, this is a great idea. If the grate and the reflective back was about half the price, I would almost certainly have bought one.

Honest reviews on M-Series Grate Wall of Fire - 21"W x 15"H

Bought this and the fireback to fix an occasionally smoking fireplace. I am really pleased with how it works.

Fixed the smoking problem, except for one time when the fire (flame) went out while we were eating (not watching the fire). There were not many coals at this point and the smoke from the log went into the room. I assume not enough heat was being generated to keep sufficient flow up the chimney. Other than this one time it has performed well.

The logs burn well and the flame is visually pleasing and even.

Tending the fire is easier and more successful than with a regular grate.

After a while there is a stack of coals 6" or 7" high against the back of the fire place. This insures that new logs burn well plus insures that everything is burned completely. No unburned bits the next morning.

Considering the stack of coals, I think that the seperately ordered fireback is an essential companion for the grate to prevent damage to the back of the fireplace.

I cannot say that it heats better or worse than a regular grate. The stack of coals does radiate heat into the room.

Grate Wall of Fire has a nice and informative web site.

Anywhere Fireplace Oasis Table Top Indoor / Outdoor Fireplace
Customer Ratings: 3 stars

This is one of those products that when you see online, you have a knee jerk reaction to want to buy it. Please don't.

First, in the product photographs the Anywhere Fireplace Indoor/Outdoor Oasis is pictured with what appears to be clear fireplace glass. Imagine then to my astonishment when I opened the box, it was filled with WHITE ROCKS not clear fireplace glass. So I looked at the box which has the same exact product photograph that is featured all over the internet. The only difference between the two pictures is that online it shows glass, on the box and in real life, it's white rocks. Does this make a difference? Of course, that's what the fire is displaying. Had I known it was going to be rocks, I may not have purchased. I quite enjoy and prefer the look of fireplace glass.

Second, let's just say for a second that I was okay with the white rocks that were sent instead of the clear, fireplace glass. They could at least send enough rocks to cover the top of the fireplace. When I tell you that you can barely cover 70% of the top of the fireplace with the rocks included, I'm not exaggerating. And I bought two of these fireplaces and it was the same for both.

I decided to go back online and do more research and went to ANYWHERE FIREPLACE website. It would seem that on their site they have pictures of the OASIS fireplace with both glass and rocks. In all of the pictures, the fireplace top is fully covered, 150% with glass and or rocks. Rocks and glass are pilled up on top of each other making a little mountain. So imagine my second surprise that both of my fireplaces came without even enough rocks to cover the top.

So,

They advertise fireplace clear glass and they send rocks.

They advertise enough material for a nice looking display but send barely enough material to cover half the top.

My current choices are:

Pack this crap back up and take my time and money to send it back.

Go hunting for fireplace glass and take my time and money to make it look the way it's advertised.

This is a do not buy item.... Anywhere Fireplace should be embarrassed.

I was not able to fit this balloon in my flue because the flue was too far above the damper. So I bought the wrong size for my application. I'm going to try putting it up in the top of my chimney where the flue is easily accessed. My problem was that I did not do enough research. This is definitely a MEASURE TWICE CUT ONCE type of product. Go to the ChimneyBalloon.com website and get educated first, then order one.

The product seems well designed and the instructions are good. I felt the price was high but I guess fair since many people might mistakenly buy the wrong size and they likely have to handle a lot of returns and or exchanges. I think they are good at this though, or so I've read.

Amazon was fast and reliable as they always are.

I picked up two of these last winter for my kids rooms. We live in very northern Minnesota, where sub-zero winter temperatures are very common. When it gets that cold outside, keeping rooms in the house that are on the outer edges warm can be tricky, without overheating the center of the house. So for years we've used oil heaters, which require little to no babysitting. We have two very large electric fireplaces in our home already, and my kids have always wanted little ones for their rooms for cold days. They especially wanted them for when they get home from school and would like to warm their bedrooms up quickly. They've only just now gotten old enough (pre-teens) where I feel confident they could easily manage one of these small heaters themselves without me worrying.

So last Christmas they each got one for their bedrooms as a gift. They are very small, so they don't take up much room. No more than a tiny nightstand would. The blower in the heater is at the bottom, so the top and the front stays completely cool. So there's no worrying that anyone might burn themselves on it. The door on the fireplace does open up, which gives you access to buttons that control the temperature and brightness of the fires light. There is also a small remote control that comes with it so you can adjust the settings or turn it on/off remotely. These heaters did a wonderful job of warming up chilly bedrooms all last winter.

* * * A special note * * *

Two things I wanted to mention, so if anyone else runs into the same things they know about them ahead of time. The first, one of the two heaters I ordered arrived without the light inside working. At first I was stumped as to what to do, then I realized it was just a replaceable light bulb inside, and all I had to do was open up the back (or underside, I can't remember which) and check it. Turns out in shipping the bulb had just came a little loose. A little twist and it was tightened and working perfectly again.

The second thing I wanted to mention is when you first get these and turn the heater on, there is a smell that seems to need to burn off the first time you use it. I'm not sure if it's a cleaner or what, but the smell will actually set off any nearby smoke detectors, even though there's no smoke. So it's best to run them for a little while first, before you need them at a later time, so you can open a window or something to get the smell out. However once the smell has burned off, it never comes back.

My daughter just moved from South Florida to the panhandle, where the nights are quite chilly. I bought this for her as an early Christmas gift. She loves it. The seller is reliable, and the heater was delivered to her door within four days. No assembly is required, and it is ready to use right out of the box. It arrived with no damage, and was well packaged. The unit is quiet and heats her small home very well. She also loves watching just the flames without using the heater...it adds a lovely warm glow to any room. While this seller has the heater priced a little higher than other vendors, the shipping is free, so it's an excellent buy. I will be her visiting at Christmas, and look forward to seeing this beautiful little electric stove in person. I may have to buy one for myself! Buy this, you won't be sorry.

We bought this stove to replace another brand that died after two years and cost twice as much. We love it. We use it in our bedroom which is always very cold. The room is a medium size and it does the job perfectly. I'm sure it could heat a larger room. The other stove we had didn't have a remote so I didn't think it was important but now that I have one I love the convenience. The stove arrived in a timely manner, in good condition and the seller communicated with me regarding the arrival date. Bottom line the stove does an excellent job heating a room and looks good while doing it. I surely recommend it to anyone who needs a little extra heat and doesn't want a clunky little space heater.

Honest reviews on Duraflame Freestanding Electric Stove with Remote Control DFS-550-7

Admittedly, the flame effect is not the most realistic thing in the world. In fact, it's a little cheesy. For best effect, turn it all the way down to the lowest brightness. I might even swap out the bulb for a lower wattage. However, the ambiance is still really nice, even though it is clearly not a real fire, and I like the option of having the flame effect on while the heat is off. This unit is in the bedroom. It heats the area nicely and fairly quietly, and with my glasses off in bed, watching the fake fire is very soothing. A click of the remote to turn it off as I am ready to fall asleepreally a nice feature. Ready to use, straight out of the box. The first time it's on, it does give off a bit of a "hot pan with oil" smell, but that fades quickly. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase and recommend the unit.

POORLY CONSTRUCTED AND PACKAGED!

When I received my items:

*the top panel trim on the left side was coming off, there was a dent in the middle, and the trim on the right side was barely hanging on

*the base panel was cracked in the front

*the upper firebox trim was broken (piece that supports the top panel beneath the television and above the firebox insert)

*the 2 back panels had either a large vertical scratch or had a hole

*multiple discolorations (white where it should be black) and scratches throughout every piece

*Assembly guide included with the fireplace insert but not for the entertainment center (I had to Google search for it and found it on the Home Depot website.)

I beg you. Please do not buy this item! It is NOT worth the money and you might as well invest in an already assembled/mostly assembled fireplace/entertainment center locally. I called Cymax to get a WHOLE product replacement and they wanted pictures of the damages, which I sent. Although Cymax claimed it was a whole product replacement, Real Flame DID NOT send out a whole product replacement but only sent the replacement parts after reviewing my claim. Unfortunately, some of the replacement parts did not screw properly with the original parts that I had already. Also, the left side of the top panel was beginning to come off just like the original top panel that was being replaced. Since I tried to assemble the fireplace, it is not in it's original condition. Hence I did not even bother with returning it, getting up to 50% of the price paid, and deducting even more for shipping the item back to Cymax. Needless to say, I threw everything away out of sheer frustration and bought an electric fireplace/entertainment center from Havertys.

A complete disaster, waste of money, and time!!!

Awesome bench, holds all my stuff and the glass provides a nice contrast to the white exterior. The feet were a little wobbly, but I assume that this will settle over time. I do not recommend that anyone put a flat screen tv as large as 60 inches on top of it though ,unless you screw it down, but then that would ruin the wood. Better to mount large tvs on the wall than to risk them toppling over.

I read and re-read this item description and thought that I was getting the SET of panels I needed. The one thing alluding to more than one piece in the description said the "PANELS" fit together... This sounded like it was plural (a SET of panels) to me, so since there was nothing in the description to tell me that this was only ONE piece of the SET, I assumed that it was PLURAL panels... that plus the photo seemed to me to be a SET... this needs to be made CLEAR in the description that MORE pieces are necessary. And there was nothing under it to allude to this need either. Usually when I purchase something that requires other parts to make it work, they are shown underneath, but this item had nothing to indicate that. Now I have ONE piece that I need to send back and have lost money in the process. NOT A HAPPY CAMPER HERE! I usually feel I can trust Amazon's businesses and usually feel confident in purchases made here, but was very disappointed in this lack of description.

Buy Paper Log Maker

Paper Log Maker
Customer Ratings: 4 stars
Buy Now
Hopefully I can shed more information on the product and answer any questions about expectations as well. Many of these reviews seem to focus on what the customer was expecting and do not fairly give the product as it works the review.

The Log maker itself is a pretty durable construction of all metal. It comes in 3 parts. The outside container with the handles, a removable bottom to pull the brick out, and the press part that compresses the brick. My setup came with instructions though it is actually pretty easy to figure out as well. Basically the thing works by taking shredded paper and compressing it to the point that it no longer burns rapidly but putting it into brick form. In that regard this thing works beautifully.

Now to answer other questions you may have.

You need to shred the paper! This is for a few reasons. It compresses better and also when the shredded paper is placed in water to soak (part of the instructions) it allows the water to attack the fibers of the paper and makes it easier to compress. Shredding the paper is probably the most annoying part to me. Sitting at a shredder sort of sucks waiting for it to shred paper. A Shredder bin about a foot and half tall makes about 3 bricks Ive found. It would be much better if I was in an office setting and could volunteer to take shredder waste home with me. Either way I recommend letting the paper shreds soak for about 3 days. It seems long yes, but planning ahead is always helpful. I have done as little as a day but those ones always seem to burn faster. Two days is fine if your in an absolute rush.

Make the bricks, this is as simple as placing the water soaked paper in the press and following the directions. Water will come to the top and out the sides and it has the potential to smell depending on the ink in the paper and other factors that went into making the paper. I typically compress the log maker then place it on the side so the water that came to the top can run out. Pull the brick out and let them dry.

As far as drying goes, I set them on a piece of wood so I can move them if necessary. Ill put them out in the sun and then move them because of shade that's created at certain times of the day. It also allows me to move them to the garage if rain is coming. I typically turn them completely once a day to make sure all the sides are drying at the same rate. If your in a rush, the over works perfectly fine too to accelerate the drying process.

After they are dry its a simple matter of placing them into the fire. You can use these completely void of wood. I actually use them in conjunction with wood, Ill use maybe a log of wood to every 3-4 bricks of paper. They are smokeless as long as you use just regular paper, but adding stuff will cause smoke.

When thinking about the stars to give this product, I think of the time it saves me of cutting up and chopping up wood. Of course I could just go buy firewood but that completely defeats the purpose of buying this paper brick maker in the first place.

**I would like to add that when making your bricks make sure your filling the log maker, the less space inside the more compressed and the more brick like they become. The bricks absolutely have to be dry as well. If there is any doubt to if they are dry, place them in the over for a bit. 400 on a non convection oven and maybe 350 on a convection oven, keep rotating them and you'll get really light paper bricks.

If you have the typical junk mail stuffing your mailbox, with it going right into the trash, you have a ready source for making paper logs with this gadget. Shred the paper, throw in some chipped twigs, leaves and yard clippings if you wish, soak thoroughly. Scoop the glop into the press, packing it firmly into the corners and right up to the top of the forming section. Put on the press part, squash the water out as much as possible. It seems to take a couple weeks in the sun to dry the logs out properly. Once fully dry (they will be very light and fairly solid)you get a couple hours burn time. Works best as a supplement to regular fire wood.

Best Deals for Paper Log Maker

The product is great, the logs are nice and neat, and once they dry, they burn well.

They are not as long lasting (long burning?) as wood logs, but they are free and GREEN, a good save the planet tool

Honest reviews on Paper Log Maker

i purchased this product to use in conjunction with firewood in our fireplace and outdoor fire pit. i wanted this to save money on buying wood and also to use up some of the paper that seems to accumulate around here instead of just throwing it in the recycling. My husband doesn't think it's worth "all the work" but honestly it isn't much work, just mostly requires patience, which he definitely lacks.

the product itself is good and pretty sturdy. it's not difficult to use or to press out much of the water, even if you don't have loads of upper body strength. the reason i knocked it down a star is because i didn't find that the instructions provided from the manufacturer really gave you a proper indication of how to make the logs. most of what i learned about making the logs i read about on other websites or watched on some you tube videos.

You really want to let the paper to soak in water for a while. i usually let the paper soak 3 to 5 days, stirring it daily. then i go out into the driveway to make them. it's a messy process, requiring the use of gloves. first i made them in our utility sink, but bits of paper got all over the sink and in the drain so I decided to go outside after that. the thing the instructions really don't tell you about is how long to dry them. it just says "let them dry" and leaves it at that. it takes WEEKS and weeks for these things to properly dry, and the colder it gets the longer this may take. the outside of the brick might look and feel dry but inside it's probably still damp. when you pick up the bricks they should be very light when they are totally dry.

Also, these do not burn like, say, a duraflame log or something. you can't just set it on fire and expect it to blaze up. they really do burn like a piece of wood about the same size and shape. you have to have a nice blaze going for them to catch or else it just sits there sadly smouldering and not looking very impressive. I believe they do work well as a supplement to firewood. I guess you could use them without firewood if you had other kindling to use with them. right now i don't have enough bricks on hand to use them alone. I look forward to making them all spring and summer next year and having a convenient stash set aside for next winter and fall.

newsprint bricks burn slower and longer than ones made from copy or printer paper. mine are usually a mix of both kinds. i have not tried adding leaves or twigs and stuff yet, but have some soaking now and will edit this review at a later date if i find they add anything worthwhile to the result.

The Kotulas paper log maker works best with newspaper torn into thin strips and then soaked for a few days. Other types of paper and cardboard did not seem to work well for me. It's a fairly messy process: inky hands, icky water squeezed and poured from unit, but all in all after about a dozen logs I've gotten pretty good at it. It takes a long time for the logs to dry, which is my biggest complaint.

If you have a lot of newspaper and are willing to take the time and put up with a bit of a mess it's a good product. I'm not regretting my investment.

Probably one of the best purchases lately. It is well contstructed and putting 3 groups of panels together turned a large hallway into an outer room for clothing in standing closets. So light in color that it does not offend or jump out at you. Using one panel as a doorway into the area...just put "sliders" under that panel. Excellent for what I needed.
