This screen was as advertised so I'm basically happy with it. It arrived undamaged, and I have it in my house now. It's true that the mesh is black, which is what I wanted anyway. In fact if I had any complaint, it is that the mesh is not really all that dark--I wish it obscured more of the view behind it, but it's pretty transparent. I've attached a photo of it in my house (don't laugh.)

I ordered two of these for my two fireplaces. Both arrived damaged for two reasons. First, the screen is very poorly attached to the thin frame, and second, their shipping department does not know how to pack them.

I sent them a digital picture to show them the damage, and they told me to keep them and sent me two more. I tried to tell them how to improve their packaging method so they would not be damaged, but to no avail. The next two arrived damaged and packaged the same way. Once again, they told me to keep them and sent me two more...believe it or notthey were damaged. I kept the two least damaged ones and gave the other four away to a charity re-sale shop. Uniflame's shipping department personnel are absolute idiots. And it goes to show how much these are really worth. They didn't care about getting the damaged ones back. I gave up after 6 screens.

If you can get one undamaged, it looks very contemporary...hence it gets one star.

I read the reviews but ordered anyway. It arrived undamaged and sure enough, it doesn't look "chrome shiny" but it looked shiny enough and was fine. What I think is misleading is that in the picture the screen looks white but when it arrived it's black. I wanted the opaque look but didn't get it. I do like the height of it and the curve but if you order it know that the picture is very misleading.

since a fireplace screen is probably going to go in a prominent location like your living room you really want to see this up close before ordering unless you don't mind paying shipping charges to return it. The actual item is much darker than the product photo and if you're wanting to hide an ugly fireplace, the screen doesn't do a very good job of camouflaging what's behind it.

1-star rating due to poor quality control resulting in 2 of the 3 thermometers purchased not working, rather reading backwards. Apparently the manufacturer (RUTLAND) does not inspect adequately. Had inspection been done they would have noticed the spring coil was installed backwards in 2 units. After correct installation (not everyone would do this themselves) the product worked fine.

After reading the only other review I should have avoided this thermometer. As stated in the previious review the thermal coil is installed backwards resulting in the needle rotating in reverse (negative) direction. This makes the device unusable.

The previous reviewer was able to reverse the coil and as I am fairly handy I am about to attempt the same to avoid the hassle of return (my printer is broken and I would have to print a return lable). My new wood stove is ready to install and I need to do the break-in burn to cure the paint during which the stove is to only be fired to 250-300 degrees. If I don't have a somewhat accurate temp reading the paint could be degraded.

I bought this to replace a thermometer that laid flat on the stove top. This one stands up so I can easily see it from across the room. That works fine. It seems to read about 100 degrees less than my previous one, but I suppose that is because it does not have as good contact with the stove top as the other. Anyway, I can take that into account when I read it. It does what I expected it to do.

I purchased this thermometer about a week ago and it already doesn't read the temp. Its been sitting between 0 and 200 for the last 3 burns in my stove. And I know it was hotter than 200 as I couldn't touch stove. At 200F you should be able to touch for 5 seconds before wanting to pull hand away. I've never got my stove overly hot so I don't know why this thing doesn't work. This was cheap and you get what ya pay for.

This incense is wonderful. I have repurchased it many times now. The variety pack is really fun because of all the different types of scents it offers. I have a friend who was complaining because he couldn't find a scented candle that reminded him of his old log burning fireplace (long since replaced by a gas version)and I told him I had just the thing for him and promptly ordered this Seven Scent Sampler for his birthday. This smells just like having a fresh wood fire burning. Wonderful and not nearly as smokey as i expected. The smoke is that of having 2 normal stick based incense burning at a time.

I normally used the sticks and wasn't sure how these "bricks" aka "cones" would work for me. I loved every single scent, the little bricks really seem to be concentrated with enough of their scent to cover my living room,dining room and kithcen area of my small apartment. I was sold, went through my 49 brick sampler and came back for more. The biggest problem I had was trying to decide which scent to start with I loved them all as the large packs are all one scent.

I started with the pinon(a wonderful woodsy scent that just is definitive of the Southwest) and I love the way they make me feel like I'm back on the road in New Mexico. But I will definitely order some of the other 100 packs for some variety.

Bricks v Sticks The sticks are nice. They burn longer then the bricks and create compared with the bricks very little smoke. However, the smoke that the bricks create is not something that will make you feel choked out, it just streams out in basically one direction into the air. You can place the incense so that the smoke flows in a direction away from you if you want. But it really isn't a big stream think of the size of little more than a line of smoke coming from a cigarette just with a much pleasanter smell. Also,I did not find any soot anywhere.

Because the end of the sticks are sticking out further then then the bricks in their holders,the ashes seem to fall further out whereas the bricks just burn down straight onto the holder, You can just pick up the holder when the brick is completely out and cool and just dump the ash into trash(you may have to wipe some out with rag.) As I said the sticks do burn longer, but the scent doesn't seem as concentrated, so it is not as powerful and does not last as long.

Lighting The sticks don't take as long to fire up, as soon as the tip is red hot, just blow them out. The bricks take a little longer. You can place them in the holder and just hold a lighter to the end, or if you are real careful you can hold them between thumb and forefinger they are maybe a little over an inch long and hold the lighter over one end until you have a good flame that covers the entire tip if not they may go out. Then REAL carefully watch your fingers place upright in holder. Unlike the sticks, do not blow these out, the flame will go out on its own(in a few seconds). I use one of those long BIC lighters you might use for a fireplace, long candles or BBQ. The bricks burn down in about 15 20 minutes or so, but the scent lasts hours. Creates a wonderful ambience and is much nicer for covering up cooking smells like fish, then a choking spray of Lysol.

Lastly with both sticks and bricks, make sure they are on a flat surface away from any fire danger in case they were to tip over(this could happen here in an earthquake.) I burn my incense on a bar/counter top and put the holder on a thick flat glass large candle holder.

This sampler pack comes with a very small plain clay holder. The 100 packs(of single scents) come with a larger and more decorative clay holder than the sampler pack, and are a really good buy better then buying 100 sticks(unless you happen to be a a swap meet in Ponca City Oklahoma). I have ordered several times now from the seller that carries them here Incensio De Santa Fe(Tom's Incense), and highly recommend them. They arrived quickly and well packaged and as I said a very reasonable deal. and I am building quite a collection on the holders.

I originally bought an ecofan original but it needed over 400*F to work well so I returned it. The gs model starts moving air at much cooler temps and is useful for my kerosene heaters, nordic pot stove and even (carefully) on an aladdin kerosene lamp with the bug guard and some barstock spacers to maintain draft. So stick an oven thermometer on your heating appliance to determine your needs.

The quality (fit and finish) of the fan was very high. It was well packaged to prevent damage during shipping by the manufacturer.

To enable you to compare your application to my experience, I have a Jotul Propane Gas Stove that is made from cast iron, glass front to view the flames and a vented top to guide the hot air into the room. I asked for this fan as a Christmas gift to help push the heated air into the room.

My experience was that no matter where or how I placed the fan on the top of the stove, the fan blade NEVER rotated! I tried front and rear, corners, back edge, ..... basically all possible locations. The fan blades never moved. I checked the temperature of the stove with a Fluke IR thermometer and it was well within the lower and uppoer temperature limits specified for the fan.

Therefore, I had to give it ONE star since it never worked even though it is manufactured very well. I returned the fan to amazon.

I purchased this unit based upon the heat range, 150-300F We have a free standing oil drip stove (EFEL, Harmony) and it is the only heat source for our cabin in Kodiak AK.

Within hours receiving unit we could feel the differance, the fan not only looks good it WORKS!! You can feel the light breeze on bare skin and although the air it moves is not "Hot" it does move the air around the stove, increasing the radient heat throught the house.

Lots of warning's about using this unit on wood stoves or any type that gets above 300F, so make sure of your heat range!!

I purchased these candles because I love the ambiance that candles provide, but with two curious cats around, flame candles aren't practical. I currently have these candles in my fireplace, and I love using the remote every night to enjoy candle light without worrying about singed whiskers or the soot that flame candles leave. One thing I have noticed is that you need to have the remote directly facing the candles to turn them on or off, but that's really my only complaint. Bought these to arrange inside my fireplace. They look realistic when lit and have a nice light vanilla scent. I bought a bag of mexican river rocks (dark gray smooth rocks) from the home improvement store to scatter around them and the arrangement looks very nice. One of the candles has an issue that it doesn't work with the remote so I have to turn it on and off manually but since the others work fine, I will keep this set and deal with having to control one manually. These use AA batteries so it will be possible to use rechargeable batteries in these in the future. Not sure how long the original batteries will last. Duracell alkaline batteries came with the set. The fact that they used AA batteries was a plus for me because some of these units I saw used AAA or C batteries. We checked and our TV does not interfere with the remote. The packaging indicates these are imported by CostCo.

I use two oil-filled heaters to heat my living room, dinning room and kitchen, which is an open area without walls with an area of about 600 sq ft. There were a few problems with this method. Oil-filled heaters take a long time to heat a large area and all the heat goes straight up. The Dimplex heater solved these problems.

In the morning it would take two or three hours to raise the temperature by 3 or 4 degrees. I replaced one of the oil-filled heaters with the Dimplex. Now, it takes half the time to get the house warm. Another advantage of the Dimplex is that it has a quite fan that gently blows the heat from the bottom onto the floor. Before it was very warm in the house, but the floor was like ice. Now, the heat is more evenly distributed and the floor is much warmer. I can feel the heat on the floor from over ten feet away.

The thermostat, which is just a round knob without any markings, does a good job at regulating the heat. You turn the knob up on high then when it gets warm enough you turn the knob down until you hear a click. To make it easier you could put marks on the knob so that you can better tell where to set the knob. You can also turn off the heat and just watch the flames on the logs. It has a remote that plugs into the wall outlet and you plug the heater into the remote.

At first glance, the flaming logs look very realistic. When you turn the unit completely off it still looks like there are embers burning. I assume it is because there are a few very small places on the logs that appear to have reflective colored mirrors. It is a very nice feature and makes the stove look even more realistic. I built a 2-inch high 2x2 foot freestanding hearth out of ceramic tile on a plywood base and placed it on my carpet with the heater on top. This adds to the illusion of realism and protects the carpet. Since the heater does not get hot on the top, I placed an ivy plant on it just for a little decoration. I love the whole look that it creates.

The Dimplex stove solved my heating problems. It is small enough to fit anywhere. It is portable so that I can either move it to any location or store it in the summer and it looks great. I highly recommend this heater.

Really trying to cut down on the oil use this year, so we're adding a couple of electric heaters. I got this for the den/tv room which is a decent size, but fairly well-enclosed. This thing is so easy to use, the flame looks great (kind of bizarre actually I forget it's fake) and in a short time it really heats the whole room quite comfortably. They say it's very economical to run (I'll see), but for the cost of about a quarter tank of oil it's great!

Quite a bit cheaper to run than my gas wall furnace and the flames look real enough. The only problem is that the motor that makes the flames move died after about two months and acehardwareoutlet only takes returns for 30 days after purchase. Anyway, Dimplex/Electralog is sending a new motor for free since they don't take returns at all and perhaps I'll have better luck this time. So if you're not comfortable with the idea of installing your own replacement parts you might want to find another option.

UPDATE:

Alright, the motor came in about 2 weeks and was a 15 rpm motor as opposed to the 10 rpm motor that was originally installed so the flame effect is a bit faster now but still fairly realistic. It took maybe an hour to install and isn't something I'd want to do every two months so I'm hoping that this one lasts a bit longer. I'll keep my review updated as conditions warrant but for now I'm happy to report that my 4416 is back in 100% working order and pumping out the BTU's.

We bought this stove for our condo Christmas 2007. It gives a realistic (close enuf) flame and plenty of heat. We enjoy it very much. However, it doesn't last more than a few years. By Christmas 2010, the plastic translucent backing behind the fire image had rotted and fallen away exposing the light bulb and other 'innards' that nullified the cozy fire effect. Electralog told us we would have to get a new stove because it was 'non-repairable' as far as they were concerned. You can fix it yourself tho if you disassemble the back of the stove unit, find a similar plastic at a hardware store, and re-adhere it to the unit. That's what we ended up doing and it works fine now but you shouldn't be having these kind of problems with a product that's only 3 years old.

I got this electric stove last year because it was on sale and I needed a new space heater. This is the first electric heater I've ever had with the dancing flames feature. I totally love it. This heater makes a great substitute for a Franklin stove (and you don't have to buy, store or haul any wood or worry about leaving the embers of a live fire unattended). It's really nice to be able to have instant heat with the flip of a button and a turn of the temperature setting dial OR if you are just in the mood for the dancing flames of a fire on a summer evening, you can have that too without the heater being on! I love my stove and I'm really glad I got it. It's a constant source of comfort and joy.

I have a friend that I buy Fatwood for each Christmas as a gift so that he can have fires all Winter Season Long. I share them with him when he is in town and I am available. We have been good friends for over 30 years. I used to watch him struggle to start a fire with his leftover Newspaper or with the Pine Cones I picked up on his property while I was out walking the dog. It seemed like when we wanted a fire, it was quite the struggle to get one started.

Then one year I came across Fatwood in an Orvis Catalogue and we tried some of that and it was a wonderful find, but then there was the problem of how to store it. B. kept his firewood in a specially built wood holder that was built into his home during its original construction and that worked like a charm, but Fatwood was not "the thing" when the house was constructed back in 1981, so the builder did not have the foresight to build in a special compartment for FatWood...who had even heard of FatWood then? Now, it would be quite reasonable to ask for a compartment next to the fire place which would hold the FatWood, but not WAY BACK IN THE DARK AGES!

Aparently, many a FatWood user has been faced with this difficulty as I see that new and different FatWood Holders or Caddys appear on a yearly basis now. Some are nice and some so so. I thought such a caddy would make a good Christmas present for my friend, and in 2011, I found this one available through Amazon and put in an order.

It is constructed of nice heavy black metal and holds about 5 pounds of FatWood, right there on the hearth, in a nice, tidy compartment. It is heavy enough to hold the wood without the caddy's falling over and dumping pieces of FatWood all over the hearth and onto the floor. It is a flat black color, not a bright black, which in B.'s case works out well as his fire place utensils are a flat black also. Five pounds is a standard order of FatWood, so filling the Caddy with a regular order works well. If some is left over, which happens occasionally, B. tucks it in the square place/space that was designed to hold large pieces of Fire Wood. The whole thing works together nicely.

I gave this caddy 4 stars because:

a. It is heavy and stable enough to hold 5 pounds of FatWood, but, in MY opinion, it could have been just a tad heavier. It IS solid and it Does look nice. Wanting the metal to be just a bit heavier is MY personal preference. It is not a detriment to the caddy itself that it is not heavier. It stands upright just fine.

b. The caddy design is fairly plain. I would like it if it were just a bit more ornate. I think it would look to be of better quality if the person who designed it had made it look just a bit more expensive. Again, this is just a personal thing. It is expensive enough as is and it IS ornate enough to be acceptable. I would just like it better if it was a bit more complicated in the design area/department.

c. It is offered in flat black, which in B.'s case, works quite well; however, other people have Fire Place Implements in dark black, bronze, brass etc. I would like to see it offered in a variety of finishes.

d. It easily hold 5 pounds of FatWood; in fact, that is the amount it comes with. But since people are always in the middle of using up a package of this firestarter, it would be nice if the caddy would hold as much as 8 pounds. Then, any extra could go in the caddy and not with the firewood.

These four things certainly do not make the caddy a disaster. They are just the things "I would do better" if someone had hired me to make a firewood caddy. But they did not. So, they are just suggestions. Quite Frankly, just having the option of using a caddy, as opposed to having the extra firewood starter stuck away somewhere in the box it came in is quite the improvement. It looks very nice on the hearth, and the fatwood makes starting the fire a snap. So, I DO recommend this caddy and think it is the nicest that has come on the market to this point in time. So, I definitely recommend this, and think my little gripes are just that: little gripes that do not adversely effect the usability of this very nice caddy. So, I suggest you go ahead and buy it and jusk keep your eyes open incase you are a "design flaw nut" like I am!!! Buy and use in good health!!! Especially if you think it is fine just as it is and are not a "nit picker" like some of the others of us. It is a fine caddy, looks nice, does its job...what more is there, reall, and what more does one really need to have. A nice warm winter to you too.

This Caddy has enough style to be attractive and still fit in with any decor. It comes fully assembled so all you need to do is open the Fatwood that is included, put it in the Caddy and set it on the Fireplace Hearth. No it does not match my Fireplace tools but with them on one side of the Hearth and the Caddy on the other nobody notices! Price is right, Quality is great, Shipping was fast, this was an all around win!

The fan is quite beautiful but terribly flimsy. When it warms up next spring I believe I will spray the back of it with some lacquer or something to reinforce it. I opened it to look at it and then went to close it and it wanted to bend in all kinds of wrong places. It does stand up by itself, which is a bonus. The fan is NOT reversible, and for 50 dollars worth of paper it should be. I will keep it because it suits my needs but will do some home improvement to make it more durable.

This set is definitely sturdy and is nice looking for afar. Up close the pewter color is not totally uniform. However, not so much so that it bothers me so much to return it. It definiely made my hearth look more modern and the style is great. All in all, it's a good set to have.

This is a quality unit, BUT the picture gives you the impression that the shelf does not extend out very far. The arm of the shelf extends so that the glass shelf begins 5" from the wall and extends out to 21" from the wall. This is the only complaint I have as the unit is otherwise well designed, sturdy, and the glass shelf(tempered) is first class. My suggestion, design a sliding extendable/retractable arm. The shelf is used to hold a direct TV receiver below a small wall hung 21" LCD in sewing room.

This shelf is quite attractive and easy to install. The depth of it is greater than I was imaging, so if you're using it for a smallish item (like a DVD or cable box), it will stick out form the wall farther than you need.

This is a great wall mount shelf. There aren't a lot of 30 lb shelf mount speakers out there. I have Klipsch RS-62s that weigh in at 26 lbs each, and the shelves accomodate them. The down side is that one of the shelves was sent with screws that had no thread! Also you HAVE TO install thise into a stud, period! When you initially drill, make sure you find wood shavings as the drill bit comes out. When you install drill the other holes, MAKE SURE you measure from the ground to the top of the wall plate to assure the speakers will be at the same height. Also, make sure that before you do your drilling deep, LEVEL the plate using a LEVEL you can buy at any hardware store, so your speakers don't tilt in one direction or the other. Make sure the top side is on TOP and put the plastic cover on BEFORE you attach the glass, and that the glass is faced so the rounded edge is in the front! Good Luck!

I looked all over the internet for a mechanism or shelf in which to mount my rear surround Paradigm Studio 20 V5 speakers, of which each weighs 24 lbs. This product is exactly what I was looking for. The build quality is luxurious; and when it is mounted correctly into a wood stud, it is extremely secure. I have only two suggestions being;

1) Don't bother using the supplied screws if you are going to mount the unit

into a wood stud as the screw head will strip and it will take you forever

to screw it down. I recommend purchasing four 3" bolts designed for wood

application and use a ratchet to tighten. I would not mount this unit

simply into drywall and expect it to support 30lbs, but after mounting it

into a 2 x 4, I would bet that it could easily support 50 lbs.

2) Others complained that the shelve swivelled freely after installation from

side to side. I purchased two shelve units and simply applied extra

torque on the nut and bolt which mounts the swing arm to the base plate,

and now there is adequate tension so that there is resistance when I move

the shelf from side to side; resolving any issues with the shelf moving

freely on it's own.

I would not hesitate to recommend this shelf unit as I will guarentee you will be extremely satisfied with your purchase.

I bought two of these shelves, one for my TiVo and the other for a DVD player. I was able to install them one above the other and they look great. The glass for the shelf is very thick and it would probably support a TV! The only thing I found odd was that that if was impossible to tighten the bracket so it would not move back and forth. It really isn't a problem unless the shelf was in a high traffic area....which would not be a good idea anyway. Nice looking, well made and gets the job done easy.

Cheap Vacu-Stack Wind Resistant Chimney Cap - 8 Inches

Our house is located with a large hill just to the North. When we get a brisk north wind, it comes down the hill and causes major backdraft problems with our woodburning stove and tall, freestanding metal chimney.

We tried many "fixes".. even spent close to a grand installing and wiring-in a Field Controls Type C chimney-top draft inducer. The Field controls unit worked okay for a while, but eventually, carbon build-up on the blades was too much for the small electric fan motor and she stopped running.

Our chimney guy suggested we try the Vacu-Stack, which we did. Hired a cherry=picker to put it on top of the stack.

Conclusion:

PRO The Vacu-Stack is a well-made unit.. stainless steel and solidly constructed. Once in place, we did see a good improvement in the operation of the stove. We did learn that in windy conditions, it is CRITICAL to crack open a window on the side of the house FROM WHICH THE WIND IS BLOWING. this helps to over-pressurize the house and helps the Vacu-Stack do its job.

CON Vacu-Stack literature indicates it is "bird-proof". It is NOT bird-proof! When we went to fireup the stove this fall, we found that sparrows had built a nest inside the Vacu-Stack and had sealed the chimney. Our only solution was to use a Viper chimney cleaning kit and go up the chimney from the bottom. We had to ram the Vacu-Stack hared enough to pop it off the stack and take the nest with it. We are now back to square one until we can get the vacu-Stack back in position. If you install a Vacu-Stack, you WILL have bird problems... so be prepared.

All in all, the best solution we have found thus far to our back-draft problems.

We needed to replace our 15 yr. old wind resistant chimney cap and searched for the same one/kind as it is the only one that will work with our weird downdraft situations. The price was in our range so I ordered. It was a little out of shape on arrival...due to its intricate shape, but not really a problem to put back right. Delivery was timely and we are pleased with our purchase. Would recommend to others.

This Fireplace has it all. My wife and I had been shopping for some time, and even bought a different model fireplace but ended it returning it because it looked cheesy. We were very excited to find this one on Amazon. The installation was pretty simple. It heats up our large bedroom nicely, has a beautiful curved front glass face, and a variety of colored background LED lights to choose from, plus a remote!!! I really like this fireplace the side color is a very cool feature. The only thing I don't like is that the heat blows out the top, was hoping it came from the bottom or front, but looks great and love the look of the flames with the stones.
