I was attracted by the price but when I got the product I was even more impressed with the quality. It's heavy gauge and just the right size for my little cabin wood stove. It also arrived just when promised. Highly recommended.

Have been looking for such shovel for some time. This is a good shovel, I purchased three of them. Also, the delivery was good and prompt.

Does exactly what an ash shovel is supposed to do. Cleaning ashes out of a wood stove is not rocket science.

Honest reviews on Ash Shovel, Black Finish

Meet my expectations. Good price, inexpensive shipping. Fast delivery by USPS. Reasonably strong. Finish is uniform, but since it used for ash/charcoal it's not really critical.

It does the job of adding or removing charcoal from the grill. It is made of thin tin, so be careful not to bend the handle.

Wow this thing really cranks out some serious heat. It uses less energy than most ceramic heaters and is very stylish. I leave it on low and am wowed by its ability to heat a room up. The build quality is second to none. I love that it has a quality dust filter on back that will make for easy cleaning. My only complaint would be that the front grill get super hot making it difficult to pick up when it is on. If they made a little handle or recess in the back to help protect your fingers it would get 5 stars hands down!!!

Best Deals for Crane EE-6490 Space Heater 600/1200 Watt

I bought this little guy because it was the same price as similarly specced machines, and it had the lowest wattage setting of them all (600W/1200W on LOW/HI respectively).

Pros:

It heats my little 10x10 bedroom super fast. Because it is a lower wattage, I do have it plugged into an extension cord, and have not noticed any weird behavior. Both the heater plug and extension cord plug are cool to the touch after two hours of running the machine, which is about all I ever run it for anyway. The back, sides and bottom of the machine also say cool to the touch (at least on the low setting), which puts me at ease having is only 1ft from the wall in a corner of my little room. It is also quiet enough that I can watch TV and listen to music at pretty conservative volumes (I have roommates and like to watch TV in bed at night w/ this heater running).

Cons:

I was just looking at the unit and noticed the sticker on the bottom says the wattage is 800W/1200W... which is an extra 200W on the lower setting than advertised on both the box and on the site. This is a little disappointing, but not a total deal breaker. Also, the unit does not have any safety features (that I can see). It does not have tip-over protection, which leads me to believe it probably doesn't ahve overheat protection either... I can't be sure on this, but a quick skim of the brochure it came with didn't really tell me much.

Over, a decent heater if you don't plan to leave it running all the time while unattended; and if the 800W low setting isn't a deal breaker. It would be nice if that spec was changed on both the box and the site.

Honest reviews on Crane EE-6490 Space Heater 600/1200 Watt

Amazon carries another heater by the same maker as this one, it is the "Crane EE-6353 Space Heater 600/1200 Watt". The Product Features and Details seem to be switched on these two. At least this is my assumption; check them both out and you will probably agree.

For instance, the larger one is probably the one that is 20" tall, and the smaller one 8.6" tall. Another important difference: the smaller one probably does not come with a remote, but the larger one probably does.

This is a 800/1200 watt unit not 600/1200 if it matters to anyone. It is 8" high by 3.25" deep by about 6.75" wide. The picture and model number are now correct on Amazon. No, it does not have a remote.

Someone posted that this unit has tip-protection, but it does not (I just tried it). Disconcerting, but i'll live with it. If anyone is wondering, as it was a selling point for me, the construction is mostly metal (case & grate at least, impressive in a sea of plastic heaters), and the case does not get hot despite the warning sticker on top of the unit.

I am pleased with the performance, even though I'm downgrading from a Pelonis 4-ceramic-disk heater (It was my parents', I moved out, it stayed), and upgrading from a temporary [crappy] Lasko 'milk-house' style heater Wally World special. I wanted to get a Pelonis, but the company seems to barely acknowledge it's existence anymore and I didn't want to drop down 70 Washingtons for it. While the Pelonis is still superior to this unit, I think this little Crane comes pretty close, and I'll echo other reviews here for quiet operation and for heating up a 10x10 room pretty well. I suspect the only reason the Pelonis seemed to work better was due to more infrared heat put out of the unit and more air forced through the heating element (same fan size, but higher speed, your trade-off is loudness though).

Keep in mind that the vast majority of 'ceramic' heaters, including this one, don't use perforated ceramic plates, the kind used in the Pelonis and good infrared saunas (I have one, the plates in the heating units are similar to the Pelonis disks). To be honest, I don't even see where the 'ceramic' part comes into play with the Crane, it just looks like a metal element. But again, it still heats well, and for less than 35 dollars, it's hard to beat when accounting for it's size.

Good unit to warm up a seldom used area for the holidays. Since it is not vented I definitely recommend a dehumidifier be run at the same time, since propane contains a lot of water vapor when burning it tends to condense on any colder surface ( windows, doors, cold outside walls etc) The dehumidifier helps to cut the amt of condensation.

I've never seen anything packaged so well. It took more time to unpack this thing than it did to install it. If you visit the manufacturers website, you can watch a video on how to install these doors. I did so and didn't even need the instructions.

I selected the "Large" Clairmont design for a 36" wide fireplace. A very perfect fit. The doors span exactly 36" so when opened, I can see the whole width of the fireplace. I had considered a non bi-fold door however, when opened, the non bi-fold doors interfere with objects sitting on the hearth. Plus, the non bi-fold doors look like an open cabinet when in use. They look great when closed, but when opened, they look sort of goofy.

The picture of these doors don't do them justice. The bi-fold doors are very handsome when opened. They look like window shutters when opened and they don't interfere with anything on the hearth. When the doors are closed and the fireplace is not in use, the smoked glass and screen doors hide the ugly fireplace from view. The doors are very heavy (shipping weight was 57 pounds). You can feel the weight when you open and close them. The glass doors and screen doors are held shut by magnets when closed. The screen doors are single (non bi-fold) doors and sit about an inch behind the glass doors when closed.

Unlike the Ascot design, the Clairmont is more of a framed box design (it has depth). It accented the fireplace nicely and fit well against a non smooth surface. The Ascot design looks like it would be better suited for a smooth marble fireplace.

Like all glass doors, you keep them open when the fire is burning. Only the screen doors should be closed to prevent embers from escaping. After the fire dies down you can close the glass doors without fear of them cracking from the heat.

We installed these glass doors a year ago. Last winter, we used a large amount of firewood and didn't have an issue. My one complaint is that you're not supposed to burn with the doors shut. I think that's true for all glass doors. Sure makes the advertisement picture look misleading as pointed out previously. As I recall, the installation was brief.

The fireplace door was a replacement for an 80's brass door. It has been the perfect touch to finish out our living room. Our contractor installed it with ease. The only thing I need to do is get fireplace caulk and caulk the area between the doors and our bricks. Glass doors open easily and close securely.

My old fireplace screen needed replacing. I was putting the house up for sale and it needed a makeover in the family room. How nice this looked after removing the old one! I should have bought one years ago.

The Clairmont arrived swiftly (Thank you Amazon!!), was well packed and the directions were fairly clear. Installation would have been relatively simple until we discovered that our lintel was too wide for their "normal attachment process." They have an alternate process for this situation that involves drilling two 7/32's holes in the lintel to accommodate their (supplied with the unit) two self tapping screws. The self tapping screws (1/4" diameter) are too "soft" because instead of tapping the iron of the lintel, the process flattened their threads. Okay Plan B >> go to Home Depot and get a 1/4" 20 tap along with two 1/4" 20 short machine screws and lockwashers. Upon returning drilled the holes (7/32" drill) a little deeper to deal with the length of the machine screw, tapped the holes (don't forget to use some oil with the tap > heavier weights or tapping oil are best). And it went together easily securing the unit in place.

One other minor concern the insulation supplied was inadequate to fill the void. These fireplace doors are supposed to cut heat loss up the chimney but if that void between the frame of the fireplace doors and the masonry isn't decently full (it should loosely fill the void not be tightly packed)then so much for cutting your heat loss. Fortunately, I have plenty of building supplies including insulation and augmented the insulation provided.

Now how many stars to give it? Handsome unit, great price, well packed, clear instructions, would give it a solid five. Unfortunately, the two "minor concerns" could be easily addressed by the company. Two higher grade self-tapping screws and the addition of a little more insulation wouldn't break their bank. I think it really deserves a 4 1/2 half stars. But that's not an option. So based on the price (compared to the outrageously priced stuff from the fancy-schmancy fireplace stores) it gets a five. Just keep in mind if you have a situation similar to us: tap, screws, lockwashers, insulation will run you about another 15 bucks plus the time it takes to round the stuff up.

I was very hopeful for this product and excited to have an ash vacuum since last winter I had to shovel ashes. Needless to say I an very disappointed for shelling out our hard earned cash for a product that does not work. Unfortunately I had purchased from Woodland Direct and want to return it but I see the previous reviewer got stuck with it. I live in the Northeast and we cannot afford to buy another ash vacuum until next winter. The filter got clogged with ashes frequently and I could not complete one stove cleaning. The pull handle snap feature to vibrate ash from the filter was useless. I was able to suck up some ashes after taking the ash vacuum apart and shaking the filter outside. Then of course, it got clogged again. I would avoid this product because you cannot effectively return it.

Only used once so far but works very well on my pellet stove. Bought elsewhere (ebay) because it included the pellet stove addon kit free and was free shipping. Now that I have it the add-on kit probably isn't needed. The main hose with the pinched vacuum nozzle on it worked fine.

What a piece of garbage. I purchased this vacuum through woodland direct a few weeks ago. It arrived relatively quickly without incident. After reading the directions for use I began to clean or should say attempted to clean out the ashes from my fireplace. Within 15-20 seconds, the vacuum lost suction. I tried using the "filter vibrator" to shake off the ash from the filter...... no effect. The filter was totally caked solid with ash. Then, when I tried to return this item, the customer service dept at woodland dircect told me they do not take back vacuums unless they are unused and unopened. What an insane policy, how the heck do you know if something is going to work or not if you don't open it and try to use it. I have emailed the company, including the owner after my phone conversation with customer service to plead my case, to no avail, I never received a response. Talk about 0 customer service.

I would advise to stay away from this vacuum and woodland direct..................

Honest reviews on 820W Motor - 85 CFM Hearth Country Ash Vacuum

I haven't been this happy with a product in quite a while. I found the metal hose to be a big plus and fact that there is no dust is great, it is also a lot quieter then i expected. I have recommended it to my neighbors as well.

I received this small ash vacuum with the purchase of my new pellet stove. I used it a couple of times with no problem. The third time, the motor overheated and it stopped working. I put my hand on top of the vacuum and the motor was very hot to the touch. I thought I had probably burnt the motor only after very little use of this new vacuum. I disassembled the vacuum, not the motor, and cleaned out the filter and the canister. Put it back together and let cool for week or so. The next time I tried to use it, at least it started. Not long after, the motor again started to get very hot. I used the little plunger that is suppose to free ashes from the filter, but it doesn't. I put it aside and cleaned my pellet stove with my regular shop vac. My shop vac had a lot more suction than this ash vac. Disappointed in the product, I just stored it out of the way to collect dust and probably throw it out some day. Lucky I got it for free with my pellet stove. I highly recommend that people don't buy this ash vac.

I cannot comment on the product because I never had a chance to install the fireplace. The first delivery was returned as undeliverable by UPS without my ever seeing it. I thought it must have been damaged in the truck after it arrived locally. A replacement was sent. This time the fireplace was delivered but I wouldn't even describe it as being packed in a box. Pieces of cardboard had been taped around the fireplace in a hodge-podge fashion. There was nothing protecting the bottom of the fireplace. A cardboard top had been taped on top of the fireplace, but the cardboard on the sides had been torn and the fireplace, of course, was dented and scraped. I figured if this was how the first fireplace was packaged, no wonder it had arrived in an undeliverable condition--no padding or protection at all. UPS picked it up the next day, and Amazon.com sent a third fireplace. Never got to see this replacement either. It arrived locally and once again was sent back by UPS to an Amazon warehouse as undeliverable. Of course, my money was returned. I sent messages via feedback and talked to a customer service representative to try and inform Amazon that the packing and packaging of this item needed to be investigated. Whether it is the fault of the vendor or the fault of Amazon warehousing, something needs to be changed. I will not reorder from Amazon because I feel quite sure a fourth fireplace would only arrive in the same condition, and I hate to cost the company so much money for transportation. This is quite unusual for Amazon in my experience. I've gone to Northern Tools to find an equivalent replacement.

this fireplace has the most viewing area of any 42" box, the brick pattern looks great and there are vents on sides to distribute heat. there are ones very simliar , but they are a lot more expensive.
