Use is pretty simple you push the top of the clip down on the top of a brick flattening out the leaf spring then tuck the toothed grippy bottom under the brick. If your bricks are over sized or irregular it will not work but if you have normal sized regular bricks it works fine. The clip has two die cut tabs of metal sticking out on which to hang stuff. For mounting speakers I attached a piece of wood to the clip with bailing wire and the drilled the speaker mount into the wood.

I bought a house a few years ago that was built in the 50's. It has a wonderful 3 sided fireplace between the living room and dining room and the front wall is made of brick as well. Since the house (and mortar and brick) are so old, drilling and screwing were out of the question since it would probably crumble. I found these brick clips doing an internet search and they've been wonderful! I use them outside to hang my decorations and inside they are on all 3 sides of the fireplace. They hold up everything from message boards to pictures. I even have 1 holding up my sword. I am planning on getting more soon so I can use them for the rest of my decorations outside. I've already been through my first dozen.For those that are unsure of what to do with the screw driver; line up the bottom of your brick clip. Use a flat head screw driver like a pry bar between the clip and the brick beneath it to compress the "spring" while you slide the teeth over the top of the brick. Remove the screw driver and you're done.
If you are still having difficulty, make sure that you bought the right size brick clips. there are 3 sizes:
Standard fits bricks measuring 2 1/8" to 2 1/2" in height
Queen fits bricks measuring 2 1/2" to 2 3/4" in height
Max fits bricks measuring 3" to 3 1/4" in height
