It took ages to find a screen large enough and well made enough to fit our 50" by 30" fireplace and unlike some was not ridiculously expensive. It is well made and is exactly as it looks on the website. Stops embers from the fire but does not impair our view of the fire. Very happy with this product.

Cheap 50 Matchbooks

I ordered these matchbooks to customize for my wedding. They arrived in perfect condition, had strong cardboard, and the match heads look to be thick enough to strike easily.

My only complaint is that the seller did not include dimensions of the matchbooks. Although it was not a problem I had to wait to order customizing accessories until I received the matchbooks and could measure them.

I received this item, and was beyond disappointed. It's a 4-leg design, and one of the legs was a full 5/8" shorter than the others. The unit was therefore totally unstable, or sat on an angle. It was also terribly packaged (huge hole in the box when it arrived, with cheap clear packing tape across it (as though someone tried to repair it). The part inside was ok (except for the leg issue), but the package was in pretty rough shape.

My purchase/return process was pretty smooth from Plow and Hearth and their customer service team were great, but the unit itself was a total disappointment. If you're looking for a solid wrought iron (not powder-coated steel like this thing), look at the "Copperfield 61221 Woodfield Black Wrought Iron 4-piece Tool Set with Ring Handles." It's cheaper, and a substantially nicer set.

The design and look are fine. Pretty good to look at. Poker works fine, solid. The tongs bent the first tome I used them, so I purchased a solid set of tongs for $9 locally to replace the ones supplied withbthis set. Over all for the money it's ok. Thor stand is nice and goes with the screen we bought to match.

Everyone who gave this product a bad review put it together wrong! Just read the directions (crazy idea, I know!) and you'll be fine.

You don't need great strength to bend the bottom panel into place DON'T DO THAT! If you don't read the instructions, that's how it looks like you would put it together, BUT YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG! Don't put the panel into the grooves. The grooves are just decorative. JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. It will take 2 people, because you need one person to hold the pieces in place. My friend and I put it together in LESS THAN 5 MIN. (And it only took that long because I was confused by the other stupid reviewers.)

We love it! The logs also require 2 people to make (one person to feed in the newspapers, and one person to turn the crank) but they go quickly, and it's fun!! (But I don't think you need to wet the ends of the newspaper if you do it this way.) The only hard part is getting the newspaper log off the spindle. We find it works best to leave the first few rolls loose as you begin to roll the log, and then roll it tighter. Then it comes off more easily. (Oh, pssome people complained that the spindle shouldn't come out of the hole, but how else are you supposed to get the newspaper log out?)

Crumpled newspaper is not easier. Whoever said that, obviously doesn't get it! These logs BURN LIKE WOOD! They're NOT STARTER LOGS. They are log-replacements. Crumpled newspaper burns quickly to start a fire. These tightly-wound logs burn as slow as a piece of wood. But they're easier than wood, because you can light them with one match. And cheaper! Great for people in cities where wood is scarce and expensive, but we get free newspapers everyday!

Sorry for the long review. I just feel bad that this great product is getting a bad rap just because people don't know how to follow instructions.

Ashley is right. I was a little worried given some of the reviews saying this was hard to put together, but it takes no time at all. The directions leave two things out, but they are somewhat minor. In the beginning when putting the iron bars thru the frames, loosely attach the nuts. Common sense, but it should be in there. Then do what the directions say: insert the plate and tighten the screws. There may be slight bending, to get it to stay in the tracks, but not much. Then when inserting the pipe, it doesn't mention anything about the wooden plug in the pipe. That needs to come out, then tap the pipe into the handle, and insert as directed. Piece of cake!

I was really getting tired of rolling logs by hand. Looking forward to putting this thing to use!

I found the roller easy to assemble and operate. It was delivered quickly after the order was placed. I couldn't be happier.

Roy put the log roller together but I am the one that makes the "logs". I am a disabled senior citizen and have found the roller to be very easy to operate if you take the time to experiment with different ways of making the "logs".

First of all, make sure the "slit" that you start the first paper in is at the top. I fold the first paper about 3/4" down and then insert it into the slit and start rolling and whence that one is 95% rolled, I insert the next one into it and roll that one and so on until the log is big enough to slide off and I have never had a problem with how tight I roll the logs when it comes to sliding them off if you just turn the handle back and forth while pushing with the other hand, they work themselves right off.

I also wear my garden gloves because the ink from the paper makes my hands very black.

I read somewhere that it said to wet the paper...no need. I also wire tie, tape, or put a piece of ribbon around the log when I am done to hold it rolled until I am ready to use it.

I would definitely recommend this product.

Honest reviews on Uniflame Newspaper Log Roller

I put mine together last night with little difficulty, though admittedly the directions are not simple to follow. As other reviewers have said, DON'T try to bend the metal piece -I think people are trying to make it fit between the two metal rods. It rests within the frame underneath these rods. Other advice I've seen that makes good sense is to soak the finished log in water, press the water out and let it dry completely to bond the sheets together and make it more like the original -wood. We made one log last night in about five minutes, and yes, it's a four hand effort. Check around on price! I found one online for $36 with shipping, the exact same one that goes for almst $80 elsewhere.

I have a 48 inch opening on my fireplace which is the higher limit for this product. When putting the smokeguard together it is difficult to hold the pieces together and snap into the opening. The spring loaded bar down the middle sags when putting in place which make the whole piece unstable. Once it got it in place and glued it was fine but seems like a terrible design, very painful to get in place.

This works as expected. I wish they'd make an arched version to more closely fit the arched opening that some fireplaces have. All in all a good product.

spring assembly uses a set screw on galvenized pipe to hold the tension on the sides, I think as long as you put this in and leave it, it should be fine. the top corners of the firebox will need to be as square as possible otherwise the guard will wiggle until set with the caulk. caulk seems to do a good job of setting the guard after it dries.

I purchased this several months ago to put into my electric fireplace where the heater and electric fire were broken, therefore not usable. It does have red glitter on one side and does look very cheap and over charged so I thought then. I continued to look for a way to have fire in my fireplace and on Amazon found recently electric logs without a heater that were priced right and work beautifully putting me in "LOG HEAVEN" especially with the help of my Ember Tealight Logs that I turned on their side that does not have red glitter on it and looks like burnt logs. I slid my Tealight Logs underneath my Electric logs to give it a more realistic look and I almost have myself fooled into believing I have a real fire going in the fireplace. Now the Tealight logs have gone from a 2 star to a five star and well worth the buy.

I bought these for my enameling station. I built them up like a house and put the very hot enameled piece into it so it cools slower and at a more even heat. I also use the extra blocks for soldering. They are thinner and longer then a normal brick which makes it allot easier to work with in the way I do. They are very affordable as well, at my local fireplace shoppe they were almost double! Even with the expensive shipping this seller has. You also have to understand that the bricks are VERY heavy so taking that into consideration shipping is very fair.

This product was very heavy duty wrought iron; I was pleasantly surprised due to price. I love the stand as it does not tip over like the stands with a flat square surface, my fiancée was pleasantly surprised by the high quality. I will note that some of the straw did come out when he used the broom which I have never seen a broom that didn't loose straw. He superglued inside the base of the broom and it solved the problem! This set is classy and will last for years!

Was scared at first that it would be delivered and some of the logs would be broken. I have heard a few people say this had happened to them. Not particularly with this product or company, but in general. Anyway, it got delivered to my house and within 30 minutes I had it up and flaming. Nice set, remote works awesome. Important to note, the connection point for gas in on the back right-hand side. On the unit I was replacing, it was on back left. Luckily I had a longer flexible gas line in my garage.

Wow! I have been drooling over this fireplace for two years. It was very expensive, but I had to have it! The safety features are kind of pain, but when it comes to lighters that seems to be the way it is. That being said, I got EXACTLY what I thought I was going to get, and for this price, I think the lighter is great. Finding a lime green one was one of the main reasons I chose this particular one. It's consistent, feels good in the hand, has a very usable flame, (although it is not torch-like, perhaps what some prefer),

and again, is pretty much what you should expect for the money. I'd give it a 5/5 stars, but it's a pretty generic lighter. I certainly wouldn't go down to 3 stars for any reason. A very good, utilitarian lighter that does it's job. Get one!

In this day and age, buying a lighter should be a sure thing. Manufacturers have had years to perfect this technology since it was invented to ensure that lighters well, light. Everyone but Scripto it seems. I purchased this exact lighter (green, in fact) only to have it fail over and over again.

I don't normally do a lot of product reviews but after standing out in pouring rain over my gas grill trying to balance the umbrella while attempting to get this thing to start, I'm motivated to help others avoid a badly designed product.

Possibly the 'safety button' you are required to press before pulling the trigger to light the device is government mandate. For the sake of the engineers who designed this disaster, I hope so, because it is a terrible feature. It jams and prevents you from pressing the trigger. I'm a fit and mechanically inclined guy, but this morning I just couldn't get the thing to light in ~10 min of attempts. In the 3-4 previous instances I've used the lighter since the grill starter went bad, I've had similar difficulty but could always get it to work. Not today. No way an elderly or young person is going to be able to use it. Back to the drawing board Scripto. There has got to be a better way. In the meantime I will experiment with any and all other brands.

I am very dissappointed with this item, first the handle broke off the shovel taking the plastic off. Very cheap and poorly made. Second the holes did not line up when assembling the unit. The only thing worth buying was the name Plow and hearth and that showed to be very cheap for a big price.

Good idea. Compact size. Holds a lot. Sets up easy. A little flimsy. The log grabber keeps opening up. I used a Velcro strap to keep it shut. Still I like it. Does anyone make a sturdy one?

The Kwik-shot soot stopper has worked for several years for us. We have a 22' stainless, double-wall chimney and, while we try to burn only seasoned wood, occasionally we hit a run of less-than-perfect wood. The use of this product has eliminated the rental of a lift platform to access the top of the chimney and we have been able to avoid hiring a chimney sweep. We constantly monitor the pipe for any build-up and a quick treatment with the Kwik-shot cures any issues. The only itty-bitty item is that after a cleaning, flecks of ejected soot are evident on the snow on the lawn. That's not a problem, just evidence that the product has worked. Good stuff!

I think it is working. Makes a nice blue color. Not to sure until I sweep the chimney. I am going to chance not cleaning till end of winter. It has almost made it trough the whole season. This is a good thing. I burn all day every day. Haven't had a chimney fire yet. I put one in every week. Well worth the money considering I leave my house with fire going. Will get back in another month.
