I bought four sets of these flameless candles (one set for each side of our fireplace mantle, and one set for each side of our dresser).

Each set includes the batteries for each candle (three AAA's per candle), and the button battery for the remote. They are shipped with thin plastic tabs protruding out of the battery compartments of the candles and the remote to keep them from activating while being shipped. Just pull out each of the tabs (you don't need to open the battery compartments to pull them out), flip the switch on the bottom of each candle to the "ON" position, and the candles light; they can now be operated via the remote. (One remote will operate more than one set of candles that is in range of the remote.) (The instructions say that if the candles won't be turned on via the remote for more than a week, it is recommended that--since they do use the batteries a little when the switch is in the "ON" position--that they be switched to the "OFF" position.)

I bought these for their safety, decorative appeal, and to use when we have a power outage (which, ironically, happened two days before these arrived).

Safety: I enjoy candles, but have not burned any since an acquaintance of ours tragically died after she received full body burns when the robe she was wearing caught fire from her burning candle. These flameless candles provide the ambience of candles without the risk of fire.

Practical: The soft glow of these candles make them ideal to use in the middle of the night when you want just enough light to navigate a short distance (e.g., walking to the bathroom) without turning on a bright light that hurts your eyes, and causes you to become more fully awake, making it harder to go back to sleep. And, as mentioned above, these will be used when we have another power outage. (I'll buy some extra long life AAA batteries to have on hand to re-supply the candles in case we need to have them on for a long time.)

Beauty: They have an authentic waxy candle feel to them. They each have a soft glow, and the lights flicker randomly just like a real fire lit candle. I enjoy sitting with a cup of decaf in the evening and relaxing while watching their flickering glow; it is calming and soothing, and is an inexpensive way I can pamper myself after a long day.

I come from a firefighting family, so have always avoided unnecessary candles as much as I love them. Now I have candles everywhere, hooray! And firefighter-approved!

I've bought other brands of flameless candles before, but found them weakly lit, and short-lived for their little watch batteries.

But these are different. They're made of real wax rather than plastic, and they smell faintly of vanilla (nice touch). The're powered by AAA batteries, which means they last much longer than more some of the more expensive candles with battery-watch powered versions you find elsewhere.

The flicker rate is also much more pleasant on these than on, say, the ones sold at ThinkGeek. ThinkGeek's flash much more harshly...like, headache-inducing harsh. These Gerson candles are far, far more mellow and realistic in their flicker. Relaxing to watch.

And lastly, the remote control is a laugh riot! Surprise your significant other when he/she comes home to a dark house and then WHOOSH...candles everywhere, and you haven't moved an inch. Spooky. :) (It's also nice at the end of an evening to just click 'em all out, rather than having to make sure all the candles are safely out and fireproof.)

These are great. Look like real candles and can go in places you can't get to easily with the neat remote. Used for 2 weeks every night through the Cmas season and the batteries are still good, that's impressive to me. I expected to have to replace them. Very happy with this product.

I bought two sets for my 89-year-old mother for Christmas decorating. The remote control feature is brilliant, and I love how they look. However, one of the six pillars does not respond to the remote control from a distance. It will respond if you move in close and click several times. That is annoying. My mom has limited mobility; the convenience of using the remote from her chair was the most important feature for her. The candles also have a stong vanilla scent, which may not please those who are expecting an unscented candle. Even with those issues, I will probably buy a set or two for myself.

Since my husband and I rarely use our see-through fireplace it looked so empty and frankly,--ugly. I decided to put a floral vine around some flameless candles atop the fire grate. A flameless candle is just another flameless candle, right? WRONG! I bought 3 very similar to these at a big box store and to turn them on and off you had to flip a switch. Getting into the middle of this massive fireplace is no easy task. Scratch that idea. Well, again I bought another set but with timers that automatically turn the candles on and off. That should work, right? WRONG! After setting the timers you have no choice as to when they come on and off unless you reset them--again diving into this fireplace. So---I spotted these here at Amazon and found the perfect set of candles. They look realistic---very important, but the big plus is the remote. I can turn them on and off with just a touch of a remote while watching tv or relaxing in the family room. I use them the hours I want to, not according to a timer or an on and off switch. Everyone who sees them falls in love with these candles. The best solution yet that I have found and by far, the prettiest.

This is the fifth year I have purchased this product at my local Bed, Bath and Beyond. You can also buy direct from Henri Bendel for $30. Smells just like a burning fire! Love! We just have a gas fireplace, so this is a perfect choice for my fire burning needs. It last a long time too, it last me on daily use about 3 months. I just use it for a few hours a day. (60 hour burn time) These are the longest lasting best smelling, strong smelling (can smell throughout room), nicest glass contained candles I have every purchased. Fully worth the price. Better then any Yankee Candle!

This candle does not smell like "firewood". It smells like mens cologne. It's not unpleasant, just nothing like wood burning, a campfire or firewood. Disappointing.

Its deep, dry wood but at the same time has, it does smell of an aftershave, some sort of cologne. I smell the dryness of cedar mixed with the soapiness of the vetiver make this feel like cozing up with soft blanket around the Holidays.

This scent is very unusual, but might not be for everybody. The scent is so strong that you can smell it in the house even without being lit. I light this candle when I use my wood burning fireplace and the combination is great. The scent is woodsy and spicy with a warm undertone, but not like cinnamon or evergreen. It feels very chic and modern and everyone comments on how unusual it is. Don't worry, it doesn't smell smokey or like burning wood. However, the scent is very strong so it may not be for you if strongly scented items are not your thing.

I love this hearth rug! I was so pleased when it arrived because it looked even better than the picture and description. It is thick and dense and soft, and the colors are vibrant and clear. We have an old coal fireplace which is only 8" deep. We could not find any type of gas flame logs that would fit at all. This product installed easily and fit almost perfectly into the space. We still get the look of a fire and additional heat. The heater aspect of it has a high & low setting and is very quiet. Another advantage point is we don't have to worry about small children getting to close to a flame and getting burnt. I am very pleased with this product.

Last summer I had our wood burning medal fireplace chimney removed and the fireplace capped. This left our fireplace useless. I looked at gas inserts and gas logs but didnt like the way they looked or they wouldn't fit. Then I saw this Dimplex electric in a furniture store. I was amazed how real it looked. I ordered it.It only took 3 days to come. Took it out of the box and put it in the fireplace opening and had it going in 20 minutes. It looks far better than any gas unit. I love the look and feel of fireplaces, but they are very rare in South Florida, where I live. An artificial fireplace was the answer for me. I bought this insert to replace a unit that burned gel cans in a freestanding fireplace. This electric unit is beautiful! I like it so much more than the gel can type. This unit has a very realistic look. The logs are "real" (3-dimensional), not painted onto a screen like some others I've seen. The embers seem like they are really glowing and the "flames" dance realistically. And it is nice to be able to use it without heat if you wish. I highly recommend this fireplace insert.

I bought two of these inserts to fill fireplaces that have been capped off in an old house. The cords are very short & per the safety instructions you can't use extension cords to reach an outlet. The units look nice and provide ambience when it is dark. During the day they look exactly like what they are, fake. They do not put out any significant amount of heat. I tried to use it in my 6x4 hallway last week to take the chill off in the morning. It took three hours to raise that small room 10 degrees.

Bottom line-if you are buying them just for decoration, great, you'll like them. If you want them to function as heaters, these are not for you.

This very real looking fireplace fits nicely into my fireplace opening. My cats like to sit around it so even they are fooled. My only issue is that the heating element is at the top of the unit. I was hoping it would be at the bottom. So the heat it gives off is not as much as I would have liked.

I would recommend this control / receiver unit to anyone needing a gas-log control system that is more than an "on-off" unit, which is not a good idea in that for a few more bucks one can purchase this unit which offers more than the "on-off" feature which most folks would later find is necessary / desirable.

This item is a complete set of both remote control and fireplace receiver unit. I had a very expensive Skytech 5301 touchscreen which failed (the touchscreen went bonkers) after 2-1/2 years, which I initially planned to replace in kind. However, in searching for the "5301" I found it to be very costly. Upon contacting the store where the unit was purchased and installed, the saleswoman suggested I replace it with the Skytech 1001 TH-A, which cost less than half the price of the "5301" touchscreen.Quite obviously, the Skytech 5301 touchscreen unit has proven problematic based on the recommendation of the saleswoman to replace it with Skytech 1001 TH-A unit.

The vendor promptly sent this unit and thus met or exceeded my expectations. In fact, after receiving the unit and setting it up -which is very simple -I ordered a second unit for the expected failure of a second gas-log unit.

The new remote is simple to use and easily adjusted to match the existing Skytech receiver. The features include simple "on off" buttons, as well as being able to set a temperature at which the unit will shut down once the set temperature is achieved.

First off, once installed this is a great way to upgrade the look and functionality of your fireplace. Having glass doors that form a tight seal over the opening can save you a lot of energy -once the fire has been reduced to smoldering embers, you can close the doors and leave the flue open and you won't lose very much heat through the chimney.

The thing that I worried about the most when I was looking at these was the installation -I didn't want to have to drill into brick if I was going to do it myself. I decided to take a chance, figuring I'd return it if it wasn't compatible with my fireplace. The installation wasn't as easy as it could be, but was by no means difficult. The easiest method, which involves no drilling, only applies if your lintel bar (the bar that runs along the top of the opening to the fireplace) is between 2" and 3" wide (for the Small size specifically -I'm not sure about the Medium and Large sizes of this product). If it's within that range, you can use the clamps to fasten it to the fireplace, and won't need to do any drilling. In my case, it was narrower than 2", so I had to drill two 7/32" holes into the metal lintel bar, then use the thread-cutting screws to fasten the fireplace cover to the top. As luck would have it, I overtightened one of the screws and it snapped, so I had to run to the local hardware store to buy a replacement.

In the end, it wasn't very difficult and it looks great.

The unit is very easy to install. It is excellent for drafts. It is also very attractive. Doors and screen operate well. Excellent quality. It is a bit darker than the picture if that matters to you.

Well-made solid piece. The cabinet-style doors are a great improvement over my old bi-fold doors. I really like that the mesh screens also open like cabinet doors rather than sliding on a track. The burnished bronze color is exactly what I was looking for it isn't gold or shiny, instead it is matte brown. It took me about an hour to install by myself; someone who is handier than me will have an even easier time. I'm very pleased!

During a remodel of our den, we wanted to upgrade our tired, onced polished, now tarnished brass fire place doors. We saw a display at Home Depot for these screens, but they would have to special order the Enfield burnished bronze model-estimated delivery time 14-20 days. Went home and ordered this model from AMAZON, saved $60 and it was waiting for me on my doorstep 4 days later. We were sold on the quality when we saw it at HD, but getting it installed (which was a snap) and firing up the gas logs, the screen really made the room. Highly reccommend this screen and as usual, AMAZON came through with flying colors!
