These tools are very attractive and well made. The base is very stable and won't tip over easily. They have the rustic look I wanted. My only complaint is that the measurements given are for the stand the tools attach to and not the tools themselves. The product info. should indicate the tool lengths separately at 19 inches rather than the 22 inches listed as the product length.

This is a quality, well-made set. All pieces are welded; no nuts and bolts. Although smaller than average (which I knew when I purchased) it is the perfect size for my fireplace. It adds character to my fireplace without becoming the focal point. I am very pleased!

I wanted a large, functioning bellows for my fireplace. This bellows does not blow a large volume of airmore appropriate for a wood stove than a fireplace in my opinion. Prior to this I had a very old bellows of similar dimensions that simply put out a much larger volume of air. I had replaced it with a cheap one that also had better displacement, but that one predictably broke.

The materials and workmanship are very high quality, however. If you wanted something that made a nice decoration or if you build very small fires (or if you like to get a workout from doing lots of small pumping motions), then this bellows would be great.

It is possible that as this gets more use and the bellows material has more give that it will open further and be more functional, but for now it is frustrating to use. I have only used it about 10 times so far. At least it's pretty.

Very nice piece. It's hard to believe that this is not meant to be a decoration, and is instead a functional bellows. I use it for my outdoor fire pit, and it works as expected. It's a nice bonus that it is also hand made in the US.

Vulcan Stove Fan (Stirling Engine Powered) Review

This is a great sterling stove fan, the only one I could find that was actually in-stock and not sold as a kit. Not only is the technology more interesting than the thermo-electric type, it should also last longer and is visually more interesting.

Minimally assembly was required, just a screwdriver to attach the fan blade to the unit. The fan does require a flat and very hot surface to function, you need to wait until the surface of your stove is above 200F before placing the fan, and will need to give the blades a little spin to get it started, then it will run forever, or at least until the stove and the room air reach equillibrium.

This has glass parts and an exposed fan blade and is not suitable for use around small children, but then neither is a blazing hot stove.

I know it's for coal, but we needed something to hold hot ash/coals from our stove. There's no easy way to dump the ashpan from our stove, but this suits our needs for now -no worries about a few hot coals from the pan burning or melting this "bucket!"

Ok if you've found this product you know exactly what you're looking for and this will likely fit the bill.

A neighboring farmer had many of these when I was a kid in the late 1970s.

At one time, they were in every flea market I visited.

But like so many treasures of my youth the heavy galvanized pails with the unique shape had disappeared while I was busy in suburbia.

After years of complaints from my wife about using "ugly" Spackle pails (white plastic 5 gallon pails) I recalled the Hod and found it quickly on Amazon.

This one is thinner than the Hods of my youth but it's perfect and works as intended (no moving parts so it isn't really that difficult to meet my expectations on this item.)

More importantly we have returned to marital bliss as the "ugly" Spackle pails remain in the garage while the new Hod has the spotlight on the fireplace hearth.

It's also great for ashes and starter twigs.

If you need something like this just order it... you won't be upset.

I've had this stand for approximately 72 hours and all I can say is I'm very pleased with the look of it and that it does it's job (it holds up the TV).

Set up:

It wasn't too bad, it took me about 2.5 hours from opening the box to having it fully built. Just a word of warning, the bases are large, so I would HIGHLY recommend getting someone to help you out or you may face a good bit of frustration. Also the directions are pretty poor, they are just diagrams for the most part (there aren't really any written directions to be found), so if you haven't had the pleasure of putting together household furniture, just be prepared to double check what you are doing.

Look:

It looks great, the finish is a very deep brown (looks black in darker rooms) and the metal handles are a nice touch, they stand out. Not a big deal for me, but the little feet are plastic, so they will not shine/glare if that is the look you want.

Performance:

Works like a dream, I can't say if it holds the full 150 pounds it claims, but it holds a 90 pound TV right now with no bowing or deformity so I'd say it's doing just fine.

All in all, a great product that does what it is supposed to.

When I received my order I was very disappointed to discover that the flowers on these are white, NOT red like what appears in the photo!! Be careful when ordering. It is NOT clearly stated in the description that there are red ones and there are white ones and how to make sure you order the RED flowers. If it was clear, I never would have ordered white flowers which really look like cheap orchids and NOT poinsettia's. The white flowers make this decoration look like something you'd put up at Easter time not at Christmas time. Not Christmas-ey looking AT ALL!

I would not recommend them to anyone who is looking for authentic looking poinsettia's. The lights are RED not white which looks even weirder! White flowers with red lights? Not a good mix. I can't, in good conscious, recommend these to anyone who is looking for a nice Christmas decoration for their mantle or wherever!!

I was excited when this garland arrived but when I opened the box the Poinsettias were all crunched and wrinkled. Much worse than that, when I put brand new batteries in it started SMOKING. This is a cheaply made product from China and a fire hazard. I couldn't return it quick enough. Amazon is great with returning defective items, thank goodness. Not even worthy of the 1 star I gave it.

I ordered 2 of these, expecting them to look like the picture, but they certainly don't! Red lights, for one, which I don't really mind, instead of the gold. And the flowers are spaced really far apart, and were very squished from the packaging. So, to achieve a similar effect to the pictured product, I had to stagger my strands and ziptie them together into one strand... Definitely not worth $20 a string, especially when in order to get the pictured fullness you need 2 strings for $40!

The product description says "On-demand heat with thermostat control". It has a switch for high and low heat but no thermostat other than according to the manual if it overheats it will turn the heater off and wont come back one without being reset by switching off and on again. So this was disappointing and the product description should really be revised.

When I first turned it on it made a clunk clunk noise so I turned it off and took off the back panel and found the thing that rotates had fallen out of one of it's mounts. It was easy to put back in the mount and after that it works fine and quiet.

It's nice and small so can be moved from room to room.

Flames look pretty good and heater also seems effective for a small room.

I use it with a programmable thermostatic plug and have it programmed to turn on about an hour before I get up, so my living room is nice and toasty when I sit down to have my coffee and read the paper, without having to heat the entire house that early. This Dimplex compact model is a good size for this 130 year old farmhouse.I all ready tested the flame and heat, no noise at all.So now I have two Dimplex models. Both are centerpieces, one for the living room and one for the family room.

Ordered this stove, came quickly and were very happy with it. It was just what we wanted for our RV......a gentle heat with a great "real" fire effect for those cold nights. Sadly, after a month, the light quit on us. I asked Amazon for another bulb but they said they couldn't do that, only exchange the stove. So thats what we did. Another came quickly and all was perfect again. Until, after 2 months the blower motor quit on us! Very unhappy with the product now. I was skeptical about this heater when I bought it. Usually really good heaters have to look more utilitarian, industrial and not so compactly designed. This little heater is a powerhouse. I used it on low for the first few weeks I had it; barely raised the electric bill two dollars. The cat sits right at the vent; I suppose missing the fireplace at our last house. Then I discovered the high button, flipped that and WHOA doggie, more like a furnace than a space heater. I enjoy this heater so much, I hesitate to mention a drawback, but for those of you with flexibility issues, the on/off/high/low buttons are located waa-ay down at the bottom on the right side. It's very sturdy, self-contained, child safe [nothing to open, nothing loose], cat/dog safe QUIET heater. I love it!

I have a gas hot water heater that goes out when the wind blows, and I live in Chicago, where it blows often and with great energy. I think it is wind left over from Chicago Politics. Anyhow, the heater is located in a little closet that is hard to reach, and it's a long way from the little door to the pilot light. These matches were just the thing! They light easily, burn well, and they light the stupid water heater first time every time. If you want them to light a fire in your fireplace, I would think they would do that as well. They are long enough that the flame that bursts up from the charcoal lighter fluid you poured all over the briquettes will not singe the hair on your arm when you apply the fire. That in itself makes these a purchase worthy of the investment. You will not be burned.
