These andirons have a very primitive look, but are extremely attractive. They seem to be extremely heavy duty and wellmade.

I bought these andirons to start and keep fires via the colonial method. And these sure do the job. They're solid and look great. If you want to start and keep fires the way the early settlers did (the right way), then these are a prerequisite.

We bought a Condar replacement catalytic combustor in 2005 for our Vermont Castings Intrepid II wood stove. Previously we did not have good luck with a new replacement catalytic combustor (more on this later). Our stove was built in 1983, it was the first model catalytic Intrepid II built. The life of the catalytic combustor depends on how much air the stove gets during catalytic operation. If it has air leaks from seams, the combustor only lives a couple of years, not six as advertised. I got tired of taking the stove to the barn and chinking it with stove cement to seal it up. After it ran a while, the stove cement fell out anyway. Operating the stove this way shortened the life of the combustor and the stove burned more wood due to the increased air fed to the fire. Lately I decided to chink up the seams on the stove body with aluminum foil. .. This did not last very long and required a lot of maintenance. Improved chinking made from length of stainless steel wire wrapped in steel wool and this all wrapped loosely with aluminum foil has proved to be a durable and lasting stove seam sealant. The old 1983 Intrepid II runs a steady temperature (550 to 600 degrees surface temperature, has no leaks and runs longer than it did when it was new (better seal). Stove cement is useless as far as I am concerned. It crumbles after a while from heat and the stove body flexes as it heats and cools, which destroys the cement seal. The method I describe for chinking the seam does not fail. I finally had to change the combustor because it did not work well anymore after 8 years. The new one performs beautifully. Try this trick, you do not have to move the stove, nor do you have to cure the seal, or smell the stink of the stove cement drying when the stove is first lit. When you take the combustor out and clean it, handle it lightly, be careful when you blow a little air through the combustor to get rid of accumulated ash and it will last a long time. Eventually you will have to replace it, though. I use a small wooden tool I made to chink the wire, steel wool, foil seal into the seams of the stove. It looks like a large straight blade screw diver made out of wood. The blade is about 1 to 1.5 inches wide. This does the chinking job nicely.

Good luck with your wood stove.

Once you get it together it looks and works great. The instructions are horrible and we had to cut the metal brackets that hold the fire place to the hearth. They were to big and the hearth would not sit flush around the insert otherwise. Also you need to build the hearth around the fireplace insert. There is absolutely no way to insert it and put the brackets on it after the hearth is built. So before you put the top part of the hearth on, install the fireplace part and then finsh by adding the top piece.

I'm so excited to come home to my Media electric fireplace which brings a cozy, warm and relaxed feeling to my bedroom. The dark brown espresso color adds a nice touch to my bedroom furniture which is also dark brown. After you assemble all the parts together that took almost 45 minutes, you will definitely see your moneys worth. It took almost two weeks for it to be delivered in two parts. The mantel and then the fireplace w/remote control. I panicked when I only received the mantel and didn't see the fireplace which was delivered later that day. It took the manufacturers to tell me that there are two deliveries. If there are any questions or concerns, please call the manufacturers directly. Trust me...you wont be sorry.

The heater works great and the "fire" is very authentic looking. The cabinet was the perfect color. Was not difficult for my husband to put together. It is very heavy, though. He had to have help to get it upstairs.

I love this fireplace but there are 2 manuals (one for the wooden parts and one for the fireplace itself). Given that they are separated we started with the one related to the wooden parts and we missed one step of the second manual, hence we had to disassemble or just keep going. We just kept going (we skip the step that prevents the fireplace itself from being pulled, so we hope nobody want to pull it :).

Other than that I do not have major complains but feel very warm in winter.

We were looking for a screen that looked good, was heavy enough and well made, and this Bronze Screen worked very well.

I would recommend this to others.

When we received the first screen, it was damaged...not from shipping, but we think it was from manufacturing or packaging. There was a big hole in the screen, probably from the corners of the box containing the legs (it was precariously taped to the frame of the screen and appears to have been banging around in shipping, causing the hole). Also, the mesh was askew in several places all over the screen. We returned it. Two days later we received the replacement screen. Although there were no holes in the screen, there were about 8-10 places where the mesh was severely askew. We decided to keep the screen and after about 1/2 hour, and destroying one of my chopsticks, I was able to straighten the mesh enough so it is not as noticeable. Definitely NOT worth the money we paid for it. Not even by half, in our opinion.

My fireplace size is near the upper end range of the size limit. Went in fine. Don't need to use the riser bar b/c of dimensions of fireplace opening. Looks great. Didn't need extra hardware. Helps w/ draftiness in frontroom. Door on one is a little off by 1/16-1/8" but was adjusted easily. Only thing that I was a little disappointed with was that it is listed as a fine mesh screen, but it doesn't appear to be as fine a mesh as the one's I've seen that pull closed like a curtain. I went to target near me to buy a nice 5-piece tool set and belows (It's actually pretty nice/sturdy). I would suggest this, and am satisfied with it overall. As for the dimensions listed on Amazon for the small and medium sizes of fireplace doors, they are not accurate. I went to the manufactures website to get exact sizing and they have great photos that explain the in's/out's of a fireplace.

We ordered this glass/screenenclosure for our fireplace on Monday and recieved it on Friday. I looked at the same product at Lowe's and would have taken almost 3 weeks for delivery. Amazon also charges no postage or sales tax and the item was $5.00 cheaper! As for the fireplace glass/screen enclosure I couldn't be happier. Love the dark tinted glass to hide all the ugly smoke marks when there's no fire. It is very high quality and was easy to install. I did it myself in about 45 minutes including unwrapping and reading all the instructions. I would highly recommend this product and Amazon for a pleasurable ordering experience. Keep up the good work Amazon! I will definately order again!

The fireplace doors days came in four days with the free shipping. I was concerned about the shipping but the parts were very well packed. I had no problems with the sorting of the parts before beginning the project. You need to read the instructions. There are too many parts, installation options and adjustments to make to set the door in the center of the opening. Also, read the ordering instruction carefully as there are three sizes to choose from. I first saw these at Lowes and noticed the three sizes. The display had a model that I was very impressed with. I went home to measure the opening and tried Amazon to check the price. Amazon price was a few dollars less so I order it. From box to fireplace took about an hour. The quality is excellent. The wife is happy that the old brass door set is now history.

Honest reviews on Pleasant Hearth CL-3000 Carlisle Fireplace Glass Door, Black, Small

I bought a home a while back that has a huge rock fireplace, but was too afraid of sparks and logs falling out of the open area to ever build a fire, so it went unused for almost two years. I finally decided to get a fireplace screen and door panel to put over the hole and took a chance by buying this online since there was nothing available locally. I am SO pleased with how this looks and how easy it was to install! I am a 30-something woman and I had no problems at all putting this in by myself. The directions were easy to follow and overall I had it installed in less than 30 minutes with no issues. It looks beautiful against my original stone and with almost a full winter gone by it still looks beautiful and works as it should. I'm so glad I got this and would recommend it to anyone.

I couldn't be happier with it.

I have not had a fire yet, but that isn't so important to me.

I originally avoided purchasing the optional blower with my wood stove because the factory model ran more than $100 I figured there were cheaper options online. After several years of looking, there finally are a Chinese factory is knocking out aftermarket fans at about half that price. Unfortunately, that's about all they're worth.

Pros: Installation was a snap (holes lined up reasonably well with the factory holes in the stove).

Cons: Noisy and does a mediocre-at-best job of moving air (air flow is barely noticeable).

Before this, I had a white trash solution of a box fan blowing on the wood stove it was quieter and much more effective. I may have to go back to that route.

I like the price very much (approx. $50 each), so i bought two because that is what this fireplace can use. The only thing that was different from the original blowers I bought is that the motor is smaller on the $50 dollar model. It functions just fine, so only time will tell if the more expensive (twice the price, approx. $100 each) ones that have heavier motors are a better value. I'm willing to take the risk on the cheaper ones because I've already bought 3 more expensive blowers which have all wore out.

I give if 5 STARS on price and perfect fit onto the mounting plate

and

4 STARS on manufacture quality because i don't know how long the less beefy motor will last.

Honest reviews on GZ550 Replacement Fireplace Blower for Continental, Napoleon

So far I am very happy with this blower. It is a higher cfm rating than the original, so I find myself adjusting the variable speed down quite a bit, but it is nice to be able to crank it up. I did have to remove the mounting bracket and shroud from the old fan and install on this new unit, but all the holes were pre-drilled so it was easy.

Now, if i could just find an end bearing for the old fan....

We've had this heater for several months and use it every night. It's used to supplement heat in a 15'x18' bedroom and heats that space up very quickly. I think the 'flame' looks quite realistic...just understand that it's not a real flame but they did a pretty good job representing a flame. The heat is blown from the bottom of the unit out to the front. The noise level is low, but the fan does stay on throughout the night whether the heat is on or off. But, we have two other Lasko ceramic room heaters and they are definitely louder than this. The thermostat function works very well. Please note, though, that the thermostat is not set by degrees. The first time you turn on the heater, you turn up the thermostat knob to the highest mark then when the room reaches the temperature you want, you turn the knob back until the heating turns off...that becomes your room heat point for the unit. It does work fine once you set it up. The remote turns the unit on and off only no heat adjustment, but we haven't had a need to adjust the heat once we set the thermostat and I like the on/off remote. The unit seems to be constructed well -I've seen different brands like this made of mostly plastic but that's not the case with this one. It's pretty compact as well so it fits nicely in most spaces. I wouldn't expect it to heat a large area (I haven't tried though), but I don't think it's made for that. Overall we're very pleased with it so far and hope that it lasts a long time.

I have always wanted a fireplace in my bedroom. At the back of the house, the room get's chilly at night and, also, I love the ambiance of a fireplace. My Dimplex Electric Stove arrived two weeks ago. I read the manual, plugged it in, put the battery in the remote and there it was! An instant wood-burning stove. It is so attractive and so easily moved from room to room. Honestly, the flames look real. Even when the stove is turned off, the logs are designed to have a little glow that looks like the dying embers of a fire. There is a very quiet fan underneath that blows out the heat and when I set the temperature control, it's just right to take the chill off in the bedroom. I almost didn't buy it because of some reviewers who were not happy with the thermostat. Maybe they did not read the manual. You have to turn the temperature control knob all the way to the right, until you hear a soft click. Then you turn it counterclockwise until just the right amount of heat is coming out. It will "set" that temperature and keep it there. I've had mine on for 8 hours and it still puts out the same gentle heat. The other thing I LOVE is that the manual says you can turn off the heat and still have the flames and the glowing logs without heating up your room. Awesome because on summer nights where I live, it's never cool enough to have a fire in our regular living room fireplace. If I ever want to enjoy the glow of a fire on summer nights, I will be able to click my remote control and have the beautiful glow and atmosphere without heating up the room. I checked out the Dimplex web site before I bought this and was so impressed with how they use the latest innovations to make the flames and glowing logs/embers look real. They really do. The stove itself is so cute. The door really opens. By the way, the unit itself does not get hot. So, there is no danger of burning yourself if you touch it. I am so pleased. When we have guests, I might just put it in the guest room for them to enjoy since it is so easy to move.

Best Deals for Dimplex CS33116A Compact Electric Stove

When I was looking to purchase an electric stove, I couldn't find a decent video of how the flames looked. I made this video with the heater running, and no other sounds in the room. When the heater switch is turned off and you are using the stove solely for the ambiance of the flames, it's even more quiet. If you have the TV or radio on, you can barely hear the heater fan. It's much quieter than I thought it would be. (There IS a rhythmic hum, but it's not loud enough to be distracting and I'm right up in front of the unit so it will be louder than if you're sitting 8 to 10 feet away).

The heater is attached to the bottom, and there is approximately a 1-1/2" clearance, so if you place this directly on carpeting, most of the heat exiting the heater will warm the carpet up quite well. I purchased some 18" x 18" cement blocks made to look like bricks from a local home improvement store, and stacked them to form a faux hearth.

Another thing you might want to get if you miss the crackling noise that you can only get from a "real" fire: Crackling Fire download this to your MP3 player or burn it to a CD and play it softly in the background.

I've also uploaded a few photos.

I'm giving this a 3-star rating ("It's OK") because although I'd argue it's one of the better stoves in this class, I think this class is lousy and lacks some basic features, I guess maybe because no one would be willing to pay $300+ for an electric faux-fireplace...

I'm not really going to speak much to its heating ability because the fact is that a 1300W forced air heater is a 1300W forced air heater, regardless of the form it comes in. No space heater will give much more than 1300W because then you're into blown circuit territory.

I personally have this unit setup about 2-3' from my recliner in the living room (it's in front of my fireplace), so it is basically heating the area around my feet, I think it seems to be working well, but then I don't expect it to do much more than kick the room temp up about 1-2* higher than the central heating is set for, my room is a 15x15 room with two double-sized openings to other spaces...

Also, a word of warning that I heeded thanks to another reviewer: The first time this unit is turned on it STINKS. There is some sort of oil or something on the heating element. It gives of a distinct burning smell. Had I not already opened the windows in the room, and the adjacent room, I have no doubt my smoke detector may have gone off (which in my case means 5-6 units on all levels yelling "SMOKE DETECTED! EVACUATE! EVACUATE!" and can get really annoying very fast!!)

Pro's:

It's got a metal top/sides. It's not overly heavy, but does feel nice and solid

The "fire" effect and glowing logs are surprisingly nice

Overall appearance is quite nice

It does make some noise (the fan) but it's not loud, and it's a deep rushing noise, so it's easy to tune out

Con's:

I would have liked to see a heavier cord, 3-prong cord. With a metal body and resistive-heating elements that seems important to me

The remote will only turn the unit on/off, it will not let you change the temperature

There is no way to run the heating part w/o the fake flames (I suppose I could unscrew the light bulb...)

MOST IMPORTANT: There is no way to adjust the power consumed by the heating element (more on the below)

I used a non-contact thermometer to measure a few things for anyone interested:

Output at the grill, 250-350*F (it's HOT, you should be careful of small children around this unit, and be very careful of objects anywhere near the underside)

Floor in front of the unit, 120*F (I have the stove placed on the tile floor in front of my fireplace, there is a lot of thermal mass there... I'd be seriously hesitant to place this on a medium/deep pile carpet)

Most important: The plug/cord, 85*F (this measurement was taken after the stove was continuously heating for over FOUR HOURS. This was my biggest concern because I read another review here where someone said the cord/plug got hot to the touch--my cord/plug are not getting "hot", but they are warm. I think after four hours I've reached a steady state where it won't get any hotter, so my conclusion here is that this is not a significant problem. Tho, I would add however, that the outlet I'm plugged into is a new outlet, so it is not loose like one that is 15+ years old. You might consider replacing the outlet you plug this into if you notice your plug/cord getting more than just warm--new outlet is cheap, only a buck or two, and replacement is generally easy, everyone probably knows someone who can do it)

Here is my biggest grip about this stove, and this class of stoves in general:

This thing draws 1360W when operating w/ the heating element on... a typical 15A circuit will trip at 1800W, so there isn't much head room here. I really would have appreciated at least a 2-level heating element setting so that I could optionally run the stove at ~700W instead. I have an oil filled electric radiator with 3-element settings, it only cost $40 and has an LCD display and electronic controls... not sure why this stove at 4X the price cannot have the same.

Nice little set of little logs. Description forewarns you of the size and number of logs and pieces. Would prefer another "log" rather than the few "pine cones" that came with the set, but other than that, it does a decent job of hiding my small bio-ethanol fire box.
