This item is poorly made. Lightweight, flimsy, almost miniature in size. I was embarrassed when my husband opened it as a Christmas gift. If you need a tool set to pick up and move fireplace logs do not purchase this set. My hairbrush would do a better job than the broom included in the set.

I was not really thinking there is much of a difference between fireplace tool sets, other than design, but I suppose, like everything else, there are better and worse ones. I bought this set because it was from Amazon and therefore had free shipping (these things are heavy) and it is passable. The major complaint I have is the tongs (or grabbers) require two hands because of the way they hinge, and that is a bit inconvenient, and also makes them easier to allow you to burn yourself.

Other than that, a fine set of tools and good deal for the price.

I was disappointed in these logs. They look ok, but there is not a very good description of what comes with them. Nothing does. They don't burn very well, and I've had a lot of ash fall off of them which is why I wanted gas logs in the first place, so I didn't have a mess!

First of all, I really appreciated the other reviews, so I wanted to be sure I helped out, too. I'm so glad I ordered this and I love it. But, it's important to know that it scratches/dents very easily and that the diagrams are not correct. I put the outer part together myself, which I absolutely hate doing. It wasn't bad at all though UNTIL I got to the fireplace install. This is when I scratched and dented things trying to figure it out and was sweating profusely-it was not easy. There are no written directions and the diagrams are WRONG. The biggest mistake was showing the horizontal rectangular open space on the screen at the TOP of the diagram when it actually should be positioned UNDER the fire at the bottom. The correct picture would have made it so much easier, obviously. You also need to push the whole fireplace in from the back, then pull toward the front, which they don't tell you. You definitely need 2 people to do this.

I hope this helps as I know it would have helped me tremendously. Dimplex, if you are listening, please change your diagrams and include some written directives!

Update-Oct. 2013

So...I started using the heat function on the fireplace. It turns out that the horizontal opening MUST go at the top of the diagram to let the heat out. However, when I position it the way it is in the diagram, there is a fairly large space between the entire black screen and the top white shelf. It does not look that great, which is why I originally positioned it the other way, with the opening on the floor side. It fit the space perfectly and looked better. But, the heat can't really escape, of course.

So, I still stand by the fact that they really need written directions and clear diagrams. Things don't fit perfectly when it comes to the fireplace, no matter what you do. I still love it but I do wish the spacing was exact and installation easier-I still cringe when I think of my neighbor and me trying to pull it into place when there was seemingly no clear spot. We were literally pushing and pulling it over weird screws and spaces, praying it would fit. The good news is, I think we lost 5 pounds doing it! ;-)

Great item to have if you own a woodstove or fireplace. The only draw back is that I think the can is to big for my needs, but other than that its a handy item to have when you clean out the ashes from your wood stove. I remember a news article where a woman scooped out her 2 day old ashes from her wood stove and put them in a paper bag and set it in a back room and that nite her house burned down, seems like a common sense issue to me but I guess not. Ashes can still smolder for days so having an ash can is a great idea.

Product is not air tight. Air escapes when the dryer is on. Poor quality product. Will not stay on the dryer or the wall connection if the dryer is even slightly moved. It fell apart so we cannot even return it for a credit.

The fireset is inexpensive, but sufficiently put together. The tongs and ash shovel are pretty flimsy but they'll serve their purpose. It's more for looks than functionality. I bought it to compliment a very nice brushed bronze firescreen and it is a perfect match. It fit a niche for me but it may not be for someone who wants a sturdier product.

These solid brass andirons were so cheap on Amazon, I figured there must be a mistake in the ad. You usually find these Uniflame solid brass andirons for at least $100 more (and sometimes much more!). These are beautiful solid items. They look so great in the fireplace. They probably are very functional. However, they look so great that I leave them in the fireplace only during the non-fireplace-use time. I put some heavy duty black andirons in the fireplace when I burn wood. These Uniflame andirons would probably work fine but I want the solid, pretty, shiny look 8 months a year when the fireplace is not being used. You can see them through the fireplace doors even with the fire-screen closed. This was a real great buy for me. Couldn't be happier!!!

This could be a really great piece, but the construction quality is incredibly shoddy. The welds are messy, the tile looks cheaply put together. Also, the tile panels don't line up, the pan in the middle is out of round, and it generally looks cheap for a $300 piece of hardware. The one good part, as usual, is Amazon. I have owned this fire pit for three years. It has performed well, but its looks have deteriorated. I have to paint the firescreen cover every year with heat resistant paint. the ceramic pieces are starting to chip. Nice size firepit though. Puts out great heat even underneath when you put your feet near it.

I was renting a house with a fake fireplace and the "firebox" was so shallow I didn't know what to put in there. I saw an ad in a home magazine and it had birch logs placed vertically leaning against the back wall of the fireplace in the shape of a teepee. I got so tired of squirrels raiding my bird-feeders in the tree, that I put these up next to my office window (in my home) to hang the bird-feeders on. They work great and even bring the birds closer for observation. Since it is October, it is too late for the hummingbirds, but hope to see them again next spring.

I purchased these for my elderly Mother for her woodstove. I had tried others in the past and she had difficulties breaking up the blocks as they were very thick and hard on her hands. She often had to use many more than was necessary due to that problem, making it an expensive alternative to kindling.

When she tried these she was amazed at how easily they separated and she only had to use 1 to get the fire going. The boxes are small and easily stored, the ease of use is incredible and at price made it easy for me to stock her up for the entire winter, with no worries of her not being able to use them correctly when I couldn't be there to break them up for her.

I will be stocking up on more of these as they are perfect for her and work better than any others we've tried in the past. On the box it said to use 2 or 3 but all that's needed is 1 small square to get the fire blazing, a very convenient and economical solution. Highly recommended and the ease of use is beyond compare. An excellent product!

I've just started using these to light natural untreated firewood that have been stored both indoors and outdoors in my fireplace. Plan on using 4 to 6 blocks to get a fire going unless you live in a very dry climate (I am in the northeast). The blocks create an intense flame when lit but if you plan to use a single block, you would have to light tinder with it to fully light firewood. If you are using it for charcoal in a chimney starter, one block is more than sufficient.
