I bought one of these as a present for my husband. It vacuums fine. However, it has a good sized dent in the lower back, where the I.D. plate is, though it was well packed. That means it was already dented when they put it in the box. The dent prevents the cord from being retracted, so it dangles helplessly out the back. I specifically chose this model so I could leave in on the fireplace hearth since it is better looking that all the rest I saw. I emailed the seller weeks ago and I have not heard one word from them-not even that they acknowledged receiving my email. I am still waiting for some kind of answer as to options for fixing it.

I've had this vac for 5 years now. Suction is good, and haven't had the dust problems as 1 consumer has stated. Wonder if both filters were installed correctly. The canister and lid are heavy duty and will probably outlast the vacuum itself. From time to time I've had difficulty with reeling the hose back in. Can be a little irritating but it's tolerable.Sometimes ash will fall out of the end of the hose when reeling it back in. They provide a plug for this reason. You definitely don't want to suck up any ambers, the bag will burn up, trust me. This is the only vac I have used for my wood stove, therefore can't compare it to other vacs.

We loved it at first, but be warned the filtering systems is minimal (paper and that is it). No one should be able to sell and ash vacuum with a high efficiency filter. After two seasons of use there is a layer of very fine dust everywhere in our hose and spouse has developed respiratory problems never had before. Have since bought a second ash vacuum for half the price and filtering system is far superior. Not as pretty, but save your lungs and your house and don't buy the Cricket.

Bought this 4 years ago with our first fireplace. It looks nice by the fireplace, but the pro's end there. The hose can be time consuming to try to put back, some days it works well and some days not. There is nothing on the end of the hose to prevent it from vacuuming up small chunks of burnt wood that then get stuck in either the front end of back end of the hose. This means you have to stop, and try to work these out. This is very time consuming and aggravating. Its much simpler to use a duspan and broom to sweep the ashes out and place in a paper bag. Today, the motor burnt out. We haven't even gone through all of the bags that came with the Cricket when we purchased it. Save your money.

Cricket Vac does what it says, looks nice left on the hearth too! Easy to use and it filters the ash very well! Glad I own it and would highly recommend to others. I am into keeping particles out of my air,this is a huge improvement over the old shovel, broom & bucket routine. I have had a wood stove for 29 years now and this vac really helps maintain it. Buy one, you won't be sorry.

I don't know why anyone has trouble with the hose storage, I don't and I love the retractable cord. I hope this helps. I rarely do detailed reviews but felt compelled to because I didn't feel the reviews were very helpful.

Was supposed to be 4 foot dimensions supposed to be 16x48x42 according to Amazon on-line ad.

Box with exact same item # came with dimensions of 41x44x11. So this is alot thinner and less long than advertised. Come on guys.

This is exactly what I was looking for to stack wood. It is all metal, unlike the ones where you have to use 2x4s under it which will rot, and very sturdy. Love it!

This rack worked out great for me. It is actually sturdier than I imagined it would be. Plus, it's REALLY easy to assemble. I figured there would be some bolts to hold the sides to the base (and hoped/prayed that they were in the box), but that wasn't the case at all. It comes in three sections. You just slide the side pieces over the up-facing tubes on the base section and push them down. It wasn't really necessary, but a few taps with the rubber mallet made it extra stable. No bolts at all to worry with.

I also like the fact that if it was ever necessary, this could be easily disassembled and hung from brackets inside the shed for out of the way storage.

I bought this to put in front of my fireplace to keep the heat of the house from going up the chimney all night. I thought that if I covered the front of the fireplace, the fire would go out from lack of air supply. That doesn't happen. I suppose you could put insulation around the outside of the fireplace, but that's certainly not worth the trouble. It's very difficult to handle also. There are no handles or grips of any kind, and the metal is very slick.

It looked promising, all steel and rugged, but it's big flaw is that it's hinged for maneuverability, so it has slits that are about 1/16 or 1/8 inch wide where the cold air unfortunately freely flows. It's better as an item to put in place if you want to keep the flue open as your fire is still going out and you want to go to bed. It certainly does NOT block airflow.

I would probably have given it a better rate but it is missing something that should be there which makes it not work with my fireplace heater. As far as the way it was packaged it was a rating of 5 I'm sure it works fine for one of the Amish Heaters just the wrong one for mine. thanks anyway. i also give it a 5 for the amount of time from the time I ordered it to the time I received it. Our friend has this candle, it is amazing. It makes her entire house smell like freshly baked pancakes with syrup, and after we leave, we still smell it on us for a while. The smell doesn't get stale, or overly sweet, just nice. The sound too is a bonus, it has a nice crakling sound when it's quiet, but if you are trying to watch TV, or listen to music it isn't too loud or distracting. I can't wait to try the other scents.

Great scent, strong, pleasing and very long lasting. The crackling effect is limited more like a hissing sizzle rather than a cracking wood fire, though it's still nice to listen to. 3 of these candles filled the house with a delicious aroma.

The candle exceeded all expectation aromatic and strong, but not overwhelming smell one candle's aroma covers whole floor. These solid brass andirons were so cheap on Amazon, I figured there must be a mistake in the ad. You usually find these Uniflame solid brass andirons for at least $100 more (and sometimes much more!). These are beautiful solid items. They look so great in the fireplace. They probably are very functional. However, they look so great that I leave them in the fireplace only during the non-fireplace-use time. I put some heavy duty black andirons in the fireplace when I burn wood. These Uniflame andirons would probably work fine but I want the solid, pretty, shiny look 8 months a year when the fireplace is not being used. You can see them through the fireplace doors even with the fire-screen closed. This was a real great buy for me. Couldn't be happier!!!

Has Amazon gone out of its mind?!! Doesn't anybody read the newspaper? Google Napa Firepot in Google News and see what happens! These things are wreaking havoc all over the country. They're so dangerous their manufacturer has taken them off the market. When they go out (which appears to be often) people pour the gel into them while they're still hot. Big, big mistake. What happens next is that the bottle of fuel explodes like a napalm bomb. If the explosion weren't bad enough, the jelly-like gel burns exactly like napalm. Which means that it sticks to the skin and can't be put out -even when smothered by a blanket. Maybe it's not a coincidence that first four letters in Napa and napalm are the same. If you have one, get rid of it. And tell Amazon to stop advertising them.

When we bought our house a few years back it had a gas log fireplace. Not long ago I removed the gas log and then had a professional come in and remove the piping so it was no longer in the fireplace. I called a local chimney place and had them inspect the fireplace to make sure it was safe for burning. They said everything was fine, but a common occurrence in newer houses is the opening is too big for the fireplace and you get smoke roll out. He said ours looks like it was too big and if we experienced this problem we would need to buy a "smoke guard".

Sure enough, the first time we burnt real wood we had more smoke in the house than probably up the chimney. You could easily see the smoke rolling out of the fireplace. I picked this unit up, it took about 3 minutes to install, and then built a fire not many days later. Problem completely gone.

The way our fireplace is designed (the fancy doors whatever they are called) did not allow me to use the sealant that came with the device; there was nothing for it to stick to. Regardless, this was enough to fix my problem because it made the overall opening smaller. I sure wish I could have used the sealant, but it worked without it.

This item has so improved the functioning of our fireplace! Our fireplace didn't always smoke, but we had to be very careful about making certain the fire was always pushed way back up against the rear wall, for if it burned towards the front of the grate, we would get some smoke roll out, and then we had to open a window just a crack to increase the draft. Since installing this item (I got the 4 inch) the fireplace has worked so dependably with no smoking whatsoever! Just the other day I commented to my mate how wonderfully this addition to the fireplace works, and how truly satisfied I am with this purchase. A great investment. Although the brass is probably "pretty" by itself, I'm really glad we chose the black version because even though it's mounted right at the front of the opening, it is virtually invisible, whereas the brass would be more on display. Probably that would be nice, but we are very pleased with the black. Also, I had considered getting the widest (highest) piece since I was making the purchase, but I am very glad that I did NOT get that highest one. This 4 inch high one works perfectly, and it is practically invisible, and does not hide the fire at all whereas the tallest one would have. I don't think I would have been happy with that height, but then I'm sure others may have differently shaped fireboxes and that height would be needed. Our firebox was much wider than it was tall so this one worked best.

I recommend this great item to anyone who has a smoking fireplace. It will really help.

I purchased a string of these flickering lights to wrap around some logs in my fireplace, creating a faux-crackling-fire look. The end result is awesome, and I'm so pleased with how they look. But this didn't come without some casualties... two of the bulbs smashed while I was working them around the logs. These aren't something you'll want to move around a lot -just get them where you want them and leave them be, and they'll look great. I can't comment on longevity / burn-out rate, because I've only had them for a few months and don't plug them in all that often. One more thing -each bulb is probably a foot or more away from the next, so it's difficult to get a "clustered" look... but not impossible. All in all a cool product.

I am severely disappointed. I was going to set it up, but I couldn't find the black double walled stove pipe that goes from the stove to the ceiling. I now have to pay an arm and a leg to get it and have it installed. Very frustrating. All parts needed should be attached to the main item. No problem paying separately, but a person needs all the parts. So will write more later as I don't know how good it is as I am still waiting for the pipe.
