Pleasant Hearth 1,200 Square Feet Wood Burning Stove, Small Review

Pickiest stove in the world. Have had it for 2 years now, barely keeps the 950 sq. ft. house at 68 degrees. Unless you have lots of dead standing trees to throw in it, it doesn't burn hot. 90% of the time, you have to get it started by leaving the door cracked open about an inch or two to get a fire started (on and off for hours some days), or restarted when throwing in more wood. Forget about anything that may be slightly damp or not totally 100% dried out, it will NOT burn. Just smolder to death and cause lots of cresote in your chimney. When you do get it finally going, it burns about 2-3 hours before needing wood to put in it. DOES NOT burn overnight 6-8 hours like advertised. I load it down every night about 11pm, and on the dot I wake up at 3am when the furnace kicks on (I keep it at 65 degrees) to load it down again. I burn mostly oak, walnut, ash and occasionally locust and poplar. The insulation brick seems to suffocate it more than anything, but don't want to remove it cause the design of it may let flames through and catch any cresote on fire in the chimney. I can fit logs up to about 16" in it comfortably, but keep a few 3-4 inch pieces to keep as fillers when loading it down for the night. The angle of the top makes it difficult to get more than 3 (4"-5" logs) in at a time. Messiest thing in the world when it comes to cleaning it. No matter how delicate or easy you are, the door tends to blow out ashes every time it starts to get full. I usually have to clean mine out every 2-3 days if temperatures stay in the 20s to 30s. When it does get below 40 degrees (yes 40), it has a hard time keeping up with dropping temps in the overnight hours. I saved and saved for a stove, and now I am stuck with this one until I can get a bigger, more efficient user friendly model. Only positive thing I can say is that when it does burn hot, its wonderful, and has saved me money on heating costs ($230 a month down to $85 on average). I recommend buying a stove bigger than what you need (which I thought I did), and not a pleasant hearth, its just way to finicky.

good stove for the money, easy to install, the insulation around the door was damaged but customer service was quick to send repair cement for it. As expected, it is not easy to get a fire to burn very long.

It does heat a large family room and more quite well, in spite of vaulted ceilings.

This is so much nicer then I expected for the price. The image is a little off, mine is not as distressed looking as the photo and the color is closer to yellow then white which ended up fitting my table even better. The feet and top finial are white ceramic. The front door swings open and is where you insert the AA battery. The clock mechanism is one of those small plastic ones that sits on the back of the clock face/ door so that leaves room inside the body of the clock to stash something which I like. About the size of 2 packs of playing cards ( secret smoker's can hide a pack of smokes and lighter in there). The hands are more decorative then the image shows as well. The body is wood and the hinges and latch are all even and well fitting. It has been running for 24 hours now and the time is still correct. It is a silent running clock, no audible ticking. For this price you will not be disappointed.

This is a really nice piece of furniture. It arrives in a flat box that weighs 66 lbs and everything is well protected in the box. Each piece (including the little pieces) are labeled with a letter. The instructions are only a 6 step process and there are no tools required. I put it together in 45 minutes! It's really solid and we are thrilled. I would like to add that I did not purchase this through Amazon, I purchased it through Costco.com for $179 with free shipping, and if there was a problem, you take it back to your local costco.

We found this tv stand very easy to put together. Some marks found on pieces but once the stand was put together and the tv was on you couldn't see them. The edges look a little "ragged" where the pieces meet in the rear, but since it's in the rear and not to noticeable from a distance we kept the stand. Overall, we got what we expected for the price we paid.

I've been looking for three years for a good looking wooden TV stand for my 40" LCD TV. It had to fit in the corner of my small living room. I did a search in Amazon just to see if anything new had come on the market. I found this unit on a Monday. It looked nice and the price point was within my budget. I placed my order on the next day. I was surprised to see it "Out for delivery" on Thursday, two days later. I found it on my front porch by noon on that day. It was well packed and there was no damage to any of the parts. It took me about an hour to put it together with NO TOOLS. Some verbal instructions would have been helpful in the instruction manual. It is a beautiful piece of furniture. The only negative for me was the fact that the lower shelf is not even with the opening of the cabinet. Any video equipment placed there goes down into a hole a little over an inch deep. I used some 1" x 2" boards to bring my DVD player up to the level of the opening. It is a quick easy fix and you cannot see them under the DVD player. Overall I love this TV stand. It looks like a really expensive piece of furniture. It's footprint is a tad smaller than the 40" black stand with glass shelves that I had been previously using. It is sturdy and a good strong stand for the television. I would recommend this product to anyone in the market for a well built beautiful and economical addition to their home.

This was very easy to put together. It says no tools, but I used a hammer to make sure the pieces were snug, although it probably isn't necessary with some muscles. It seems very sturdy. The specifications say that it can hold up to a 50" television, however I have a 47" on there and I cant imagine putting anything any larger on it. The 47" tv is about 1-2" wider than the stand on both sides. Otherwise I am very satisfied. It looks like a much more expensive piece of furniture than it actually is. The bun feet make it look very elegant.

OLD FASHION METHOD MY FRIEND TOLD ME ABOUT: Wait for the stove to COOL down and then take a clump of WET paper or paper towels then dip in room temp. ash (never hot ash) and wipe the glass. For some reason, the ash cleans the glass very well with little effort.

SAFETY TIP: Use CAUTION! Let the woodstove to be cool down before cleaning the glass.

Product is not air tight. Air escapes when the dryer is on. Poor quality product. Will not stay on the dryer or the wall connection if the dryer is even slightly moved. It fell apart so we cannot even return it for a credit.

Nice and sturdy, thoughtfully well-made, with very nice brushed bronze finish (not pure bronze, if you are looking for yellow coloring but rather dark metal with bronze accents coming through). Quite tall and slightly heavy (both are positives for me) and, as a result, quite stable on the floor, this set does not need a lot of room, but is always at a hand's reach when you need it.

In short as I noted in the review header as good as it gets. Needless to say, I am very happy with the set.

I bought this electric fireplace at a local furniture store. Unfortunately, I paid $250 more plus had to haul it an hour home! The fireplace is made of solid wood and was packaged in two boxes. (Very HEAVY) The assembly directions were very clear and took my husband and I about 90 minutes to put it together.

The flame is relistic and I have received many compliments over this piece. I have a 55 inch TV that sits on the mantle and all of my electronic components fit nicely underneath. The additional glass front storage along side the firebox is wonderful for displaying collectibles or putting my DVDs away.

Do NOT expect to heat your whole house with this fireplace. It is SUPPLEMENTAL heat only. Heat flows out from the top of the box... my dogs enjoy laying on a rug in front of the fireplace! I also like that the heat is adjustable. The flame can be turned on with or without heat.

This fireplace may be a bit more expensive than others on the market, but well worth it!

Wow! I have been drooling over this fireplace for two years. It was very expensive, but I had to have it! We have a gas fireplace that sits on the floor and wanted to block our son from touching the glass this winter without having something that he could stick his hands through or that looked too distracting. I love the look of this piece, simple but still decorative. However, it did not seem worth the expensive price tag. It would move on the 12" of tile in front of our fireplace with just a slight nudge. Not good for a toddler that runs around and throws his toys. We were going to send back the screen but decided to try adding some soft plastic "feet" to the bottom. This has solved the problem perfectly and the little feet are not even noticeable. Now it takes a strong nudge for it to move. Just have to watch that you don't push on the mesh too hard.

This is a simple, affordable, wellmade firescreen. It is lighter weight than some. But we use it in front of a stone fireplace that is elevated about 16 inches above the floor. There is little chance of accidentally bumping into it, so the lighter weight is not a problem. The mesh design is well-constructed to keep stray embers inside the fireplace, and we are quite satisfied with the functionality of this product..

This is a good product as long as you understand what you're getting. It is typical of many low-end, mass produced modular furniture peices on the market. All wood pieces are "veneer" over partical board. The pieces are assembled with manufactured hardware (metal dowels and metal locking nuts that you insert into predrilled holes on each wood peice). The hardware is specifically designed for the unit so don't lose any! There are about 30 or so wood peices and at least 100 differene peices of hardware. It's best to spread it all out prior to construction.

The instructions are a small printed, so some care is needed in making sure you're working on the right peice during each step. And it it can be hard to tell which side you're supposed to be instering the hardware on some peices. No worries though, the hardware removes easy enough when you make a mistake.

Overall assembly took about an hour with the help of another adult.

The finished product looks very nice, and the shipping process resulted in only a few minor blemishes which is really good considering we live on an island in Alaska and it came through UPS, which means it got transfered from manufacturer, to truck to jet, to float plane and then to ATV BEFORE it reached our post office... Good packaging, which definately took some abuse in shipping.

The unit is smaller than I expected but has a surprising amount of space. The corner design also fits tightly into the corner, which makes it look even smaller. Which could be a really good thing for a small house or apartment. And still it provides great storage for components. It fits our 42" Panasonic Flat screen with a few inches to spare. Has room for a PS3, a home theater receiver, DVD and VCR and the kids Wii. However, media storage is limited so you might find yourself looking for a media shelf or cabinet in which to store all your movies/games.

In summary, this is well worth the $229 we paid. (which included free super saver shipping! My best Amazon deal EVER!)

I spent quite a bit of time looking around for a corner TV stand that had some sort of shelf above the TV. I settle upon this one because of the price point, the look, and the reviews I had seen. First of all, the product shipped very securely. I didn't have any problems at all with chipped or broken pieces. Everything looked great right out of the box. I found the construction quality to be really pretty good for this type of product. It seems very stable. My biggest complaint about the product is the assembly instructions. In similar assemblies in the past, each step has its own page to help illustrate the correct assembly. Not so in this case. Often times there were three or four steps per page. With the diagrams being so small, I found it taking lots of extra time to put this together. To be fair, this is an annoyance during assembly, but doesn't impact the quality of the end product. All in all, both my wife and I are very pleased with the look and quality of this entertainment center and would recommend it to anyone.

Enough shelving to hold my DVD, Wii, Wii Fit board, CD player, Amp/Receiver. Could hold more on the bottom if you have thinner items and take out one of the bottome shelves.

The holes in the backboard to feed your wires through are small. Would have liked 1 or 2 extra holes. Hard to fit all of the wires through, including the cable tv wires, etc... You may want to drill a second hole in the back panel especially for the top shelf depending on what you put there.

Shipping was free. Two of the pieces had minor scratches on them. Could have used them as is since you wouldn't really see the scratches, but called South Shore and they Fed Exed for free replacement pieces. Very nice.

I picked this out for my mom because she just bought a new 42" LCD flat screen TV. I put it together by myself (with a little help from my mom). There were a lot of pieces but everything was labeled so it was well organized. We chose to put this flat against her wall (not in the corner) and it worked perfectly! It looks very nice in her living room and there are a lot of shelves. She has her DVD player, VCR, DVR, Nintendo 64, Stereo and two speakers (on top) and there was still room for her to add a few of her statues! We just bought a 42" flat screen and now I am ordering another one of these for our house!

Sadly, my fireplace was shipped without a piece, the bracket to hold the glass panel in. The panel still fits snug, and until I get the piece from Customer Service, it seems to stay in place fine anyway. The flame effect is surprisingly,very good. I did not expect it to be as life-like as it turns out. The heater is very quiet, and actually warms both my living room and dining room, an area approximately 30 x 15, to a comfortable degree. I agree with the poster above that a separate setting for the thermostat and flame would have been great. Also, since it is RF, it doesn't work with my Harmony One remote, but the remote is small and only has an "on" and an "off" button. One strange thing, I looked on the Dimplex site, and can not find this model. Even if it was a closeout, shouldn't they still list the model?

I received this last evening. It arrived in two large boxes and required assembly. It is the assembly instructions that prevent me from giving the fireplace 5 stars. While the mantle/hearth was relatively intuitive, the fireplace connections to the hearth were separate and not as simple as they could have been. There is little good instruction regarding the installation of the glass front (which was pristine upon arrival).

Now to the good: Wow! The fireplace, both wood and fake fire are top quality when compared to others I've seen in big box retailers and it was considerably less money.

The remote turns on and off the unit only which makes good sense to me. The only reason I would have to adjust the thermostat would be if I were to move the fireplace to a different room. The thermostat is easily adjustable and the flame and heat can be controlled separately. The noise made from the unit is less than the space heater I'd been using in the basement and is certainly far more attractive.

I'm very pleased with the quality, fit, finish and look of this unit and I expect to enjoy it for years to come.

UPDATE: I've had this heater for almost two years now (12/12)and while I will admit that the heater has gotten a bit noisier, it's still more quiet than most other free-standing heaters. The flame and all other components are as good as the day I put it together. It heats well and the flames are as vibrant as ever.
