I attended a small community meeting in a neighbors 1830 town house where there was a charming fire in the fireplace. At the end of the 2 hour meeting I complimented the hosts on what a perfect fire. they'd made. They burst into laughter & said, "Come, look closely."

That's when I realized for the first time that the fire was artificial. I had been convinced the log fire was real.

The next day those neighbors surprised me with a gift of my first Classic Flame Insert for my 1840 house, nearby, in which there were 7 fireplaces. It was an instant hit & used nightly, just for the charm of it.

Incidentally, some months later my insurance company informed me that they would no longer cover damages resulting from the use of real fires, unless I had the fireplaces & flues lined with stainless steel. A quick check revealed it would cost over $5,000 per fireplace to do that. What about my rental apartments & the tenants fireplaces?

I explained the situation, that real fires would be banned, at the signing of the lease renewals, and I would offer & instal a Classic Flame Insert at no charge. I proudly demonstrated my own.

The proposal was a hit. All the fireplaces now have Classic Flame Inserts, the cost of relining the flues was eliminated, so was the cost of firewood, and the storage space it required, air pollution from the smoke was eliminated as was the messy chore of cleaning up the ash from a real fire. Plus, my insurance company was happy.

As a bonus the Inserts also make adjustable heat if you wish. They are especially convincing when seen behind the classic fire screens found on most fireplaces. The effect is magical.

PS When Santa came the next Christmas we just gave him a key to the front door.

Best Panacea 15206 Adjustable Length Log Rack Deals

This is one of the easiest assemblies I've ever experienced. I opened the box, took out the two metal end pieces, and inserted the two by fours in the slots. Two screws at each end finished the job.

The metal pieces have just enough heft to give them strength.Mine had a couple minor scratches that I touched up with some flat black spray paint, a touch up that probably wasn't necessary.

While waiting for my "log rack" to arrive from Amazon, I bought another model from the big box, chain hardware store for ten dollars less. The two by fours didn't fit the slots in my bargain log rack and I had to shave them a bit to make them fit. Also the ends came in two pieces that had to be assembled.

I like the log rack from Amazon much better.

On one log rack I added a pair of vertical boards to make two storage areas. I use the narrower of the spots for small diameter pieces of wood. It's worked out nicely.

To keep the wooden supports of the firewood rack up off the ground I've placed the rack on some concrete blocks. This elevates the rack and tends to keep the wood drier. I measured the bottom boards from outer edge to outer edge; it's only about 10.5". The other end is almost an inch wider. An extra inch would have been nice for better stability. One could probably adjust the width a little by forcing spacers between the support boards or manually trying to bend the end pieces wider. Now that my rack is set up, I don't think I'll bother trying to widen it now.

All in all I am mostly pleased with this product.

This worked in the spot I wanted to use it. It is simple to assemble and does the job. I would have liked the product description to indicate I needed to provide the 2X4s and the screws.

Best Deals for Panacea 15206 Adjustable Length Log Rack

I got this product at Lowe's for $29.68. I used longer, larger pan head screws with 6' pressure treated 2x4 base lumber. Total price with lumber was about $35.00. The pipe is smaller in diameter than the other firewood rack I have. The other rack includes the base and is selling for well over $50.00. In order to compensate for what seems to be flimsy pipe size, I added a length of heavy duty rope tied between the tops of the supports. It is definitely not coming apart now. I'm satisfied with it for the money and if needed, I can replace the support rope every few years. Because in my opinion it requires "field engineering" to make it right, I believe it only deserves 3 stars.

Assembled unit with regular 2X4 studding material. Measured the custom width I needed for the rack. Cut a set of 2X4 rails out of one 2X4X8 length and used left over piece for a 'T' brace between the the 2X4 rails. Filled rack to the top with wood. A little flex on the rails but feels sturdy enough. It works...

Note: You supply the screws. Also, because studding 2X4s are less than 2" X 4", there is some "slop" in the rail slot openings they are larger closer to a "real" 2X4 size. Not a problem but worth noting.

I'm typically very skeptical of products and before spending the money on something I want to make sure it will do what it claims. I'm telling you that Chimney Saver completely fixed my problem of a leaky brick chimney. I was getting water in my unfinished basement coming from the chimney. It leaked before and after I had the roof replaced and the chimney cap. I applied this stuff and after the first major rainstorm, my basement is dry. I'm extremely happy with this product! If you have a leak and the mortar joints appear to be okay (meaning not cracked and falling out), this will work wonders for you.

This is a great product if your chimney seems to leak and damage your indoor ceiling, which has been our problem for some time. The brick is just too porous. This seems to seal it quite well.

I had my chimney leaking even after, roof been fixed and chimney pipe was flashed by experienced roofers. Then I applied crown cap and top crown bean covered by CrownSeal product from the same supplier to make sure small cracks on a crown are not causing a leak, but after another rain I found chimney steal leaking. I was almost gave up until read reviews of this product and decided to give it a try. And after long fight with leaking I am happy that this product was a final fix leaking problems I had. Even you masonry looks good that does not mean water could no go through and this product is preventing it. It seals masonry itself because they are almost like a sponge without it.
