We use this device to control a furnace rated gas fireplace. It operates on battery as opposed to 110 volt wall current and that is a real plus when there is a power outage. Recently we purchased a second one of these devices based on two years of success with the first device. The second device operates a fireplace at a vacation home that is subject to power outages. Because it can be set to monitor the temperature and operate the fireplace without 110 volt current, it provides a backup heat source when the power is out and the temperatures are below freezing. This is important for a vacant home and it is helpful when the home is occupied. Be aware though that the fan on the fireplace will not run during a power outage so this device does not overcome that issue. FYI, batteries seem to last over a year so battery consumption is not an issue.

I bought the Skytech 3301 remote transmitter and receiver box to replace my Avanti (model AHP304R2T) which had stopped working. The Skytech has pretty much the same features, which I was happy about, but I've been disappointed in the transmitter. The transmitter works fine, but the batteries keep falling out. They are held in by a small plastic plate. The plate has two tabs at one end and another at the other end. The top tab just isn't strong enough to keep the plate in place. The other thing I don't like about the Skytech is the display. My Avanti was easy to read. It had bold block letters on an almost white screen. The Skytech letters are as big, but not as bold and they are displayed against a dark gray screen.

The Skytech line of products is high quality at a reasonable price. I purchased the Skytech 3301 to replace the manual Skytech Control I have used for about 7 years and is still working like new. I wanted a Thermostatic Control so we would not have to cycle the logs On/Off and adjust the flame manually each time the desired temperature was reached. I contacted my local dealer, from which the logs were purchased, to see what would would work with our logs and was given the product number. I wanted to price shop before buying, local price turned out to be much higher. I ordered and it was received in a couple of days, it was as advertised however, when I removed the old remote control I noticed the two contacts were different sizes, neither of which was the size of the new one. I called Skytech, after a little discussion I learned I have a "Servo Gas Valve", i.e. read "ADJUSTABLE FLAME" and not compatable with the Thermostatic Remote Control "Either On or Off"! Unfortunately I had to return the Skytech 3301, none of the Thermostatic controllers will work with a Servo Valve. Sometime later I was in my local store and asked about the Remote Thermostat this time he told me "it would not work with our logs"! Bottom line be sure you have all the right information and ask questions before buying. Save everyone some time and money!

I have a gas fireplace that had a wall thermostat located more than 25 ft. from the fireplace. Problem was sometimes the thermostat would lite the fireplace sometimes it wouldn't, very hit or miss.

After I installed the Skytech 3301, no more trouble, works perfect everytime, and so handy, you don't have to get out of your chair to turn up the heat.

We use this heater in our back room -it's an addition that the previous owners put on and is not insulated super well. The winters are usually cold in this room, but the heater makes it so comfortable for all of us. The room is approx. 25' long by 12' wide and the 2nd or 3rd heat setting is perfect for us. I also love that the top and of the heating unit is cool to the touch -I have a dog and a toddler and that was a big concern so that they wouldn't get a burn in case they touched it. We are really happy with this purchase and would highly recommend!

We used to have an Edenpure, but I like this better. While it has only been running for a few months in a room with little heat, it delivers what it promised and keeps the small room at a comfortable temperature. It makes a LOT LESS noise than the Edenpure too! My cats love it and sleep on a raised bed 4 fett away which was my main purpose in buying this. No problems so far, but is important to keep the filter clean.

We purchased this item on the 28th of December 2011 and it stopped working two days ago. It runs and then shuts down. We waited for the 2 hour down time and then restarted and it still keeps shutting down. Filter is clean. Outlet is a dedicated 20amp circuit and it still keeps shutting down with the Red Lights all lite up. Not happy with this product and will most likely not buy another.

Unpacked, followed instructions started unit. When set on the lowest setting (one Light), Unit never comes on. Set it one higher (two Lights) Unit never goes off. Sometimes when I switch it from the two light setting to the one light setting the unit goes through the cool down cycle like it should but never turns the blower off. In order to get the blower to turn off you have to unplug it, then, according to instructions, you have to wait 2 hours to plug it back in. Pita.

I have two other Portable Infrared Heaters, both work just fine. This unit is either badly designed or poorly manufactured...

BUYER BEWARE

Now, ten months later, with very little use, this unit comes on but produces very little heat. It may be a Duraflame name on it but it is a Twin-Star warranty. In contacting them I am getting the proverbial run around. "Based on the supplier of your purchase they are not an authorized dealer. Please contact the dealer for a replacement." There are a lot of good units like this I would stay as far away from this one as I could.

I wish I would have ordered this sooner. it fits perfect and took about 15 min. to install. the old one was so beat up it was hard to open and close. This looks good and makes building a fire more pleasant because it works so nice. Just follow the instructions on measuring and you will have no problem.

When I received the unfinished International Concepts 647 Mission Printer Stand and its' larger cousin the International Concepts TV-28 Mission TV Stand, I was confused.

I did not know how I would finish the two pieces, since the color of the wood on both was bone white. While the wood itself is high quality hardwood, and a good value, I'm thinking these pieces were probably Chinese oak, since they were manufactured in Vietnam.

The shipping for these two products, which I purchased on amazon.com, was fast. The contents of the packages were in great condition and no parts were missing. Assembly was easy. However it was several weeks before I decided on a course of action for finishing the wood.

I'm not a big fan of staining wood, because even if applied correctly, stain takes a long time to dry, especially when more than one coat of stain is applied.

Mission furniture should be a darker color. However, I couldn't see a way do darken either of these pieces sufficiently, so I decided that the best way for me to go was Minwax Polyshades. I boiled my choices down to two colors, Mission Oak and American Chestnut. I went with American Chestnut because I thought it would more closely match my existing furniture since the color was a bit deeper.

What I used to finish the two pieces was the can of stain/finish, a good brush, a clean cloth for wiping excess stain/finish and a can of odorless mineral spirits. Just like stain, the best way to apply polyshades is with a brush, and after it sets a bit, wipe off the excess. The idea is to put on a very, very thin first coat.

Because of the numerous joints and surfaces in these two products, it took a long time to get both pieces to the point where it looked like the stain/finish was applied correctly. Working at a steady pace, the application process took well over ten hours in several stages. What resulted was sort of a light golden-bronze color finish.

Purists may argue that sanding is necessary prior to doing something like this, but to be honest, I couldn't see the point, since polyshades will basically adhere to anything. The results I got wouldn't win a prize in a finishing competition, but they were very, very good just the same.

While I applied three coats of polyshades to each of the tabletops and shelves, I did nothing more to the slats and sides of each piece, except to apply one coat and then remove the burrs with steel wool and apply a good coat of furniture wax.

I felt that sanding and reapplying more stain/finish to the sides would have been overkill. I don't know about you, but when I look at a table, my focus it on the tabletop, not on the legs, which tend to be obscured and darkened when installed in any room with normal lighting. Besides, most manufactured furniture will not be finished with a heavy coat of polyurethane anyway.

I don't know if this sort of oak would have taken a dark stain after sanding. My guess is that it wouldn't.

As I was applying the varnish coating to the desk, I saw that the top had a lengthy crack in the wood. While it did not affect structural integrity, it was noticeable and should have been caught by quality control before it left the factory. While I had the option to return the item, that is a pain in the rear for an item like this as it requires repacking a large box and there never seems to be enough room once it is unpacked. So not wanting to disassemble and wait for a replacement, we are using it as a printer stand.

Of course, you could say "you get what you pay for" but I believe basic quality should be assured.

The receiver looks nothing like the picture shown in amazon's site. It has no light, it does require 110 VAC and has a short 4' cord. It has a 3 position switch you don't need to use after installation. The 3 positions are

OFF it does nothing

REMOTE the remote is active and works fine

ON it locks the fireplace on

NOTE: if you do NOT have 110 VAC inside your gas fireplace for accessories (blower, etc) then you should consider this unit SkyTech Millivolt On/Off Remote Control which has a battery operated RECEIVER inside the fireplace. Depending on use the batteries will last a year, if you want more use the energizer L91 lithium cells which can outdo alkaline 8 to 1 Energizer L91BP-8 Lithium AA Photo Battery (8-Pack) and you may be able to get 2-5 years. Those batteries have a shelf life of 10 years from purchase to begin with.

Back to this product for 110VAC equipped fireplaces (they both install similarly as explained below except the one linked to above has a fancier remote, needs batteries, has no AC cord, and it has a more complex remote with timer), besides the 110 VAC plug on this unit, there is 18 inches of antenna wire you just unroll and put behind the fireplace with the controller. There are also 2 ea red wires with "3-way" terminals crimped on the end, and are about 2' long. These go "underneath" your existing control switch if any at the milivolt gas valve or can be the only control. On my fireplace the trim has a small on/off switch that runs 2 wires down to the milivolt gas valve. I pulled off the connectors and put the red wires from the remote where the switch used to be, then on the 3rd terminal, I pushed the original switch connectors over them so that switch could still be used. When "ON" the red wires are shorted together just like the on/off switch does which completes the milivolt gas circuit and turns on the gas. When "OFF" the red wires are open circuit but the 3 way terminals allow the original milivolt thermostat or on/off switch to continue to function normally. I'll just mention that gas systems make their own power from the pilot light which is about 3/4 of a volt, hence the name milivolt. It is a fail-SAFE system since if the pilot goes out, the voltage is gone, and the gas valve can not be opened until a pilot is restored. Because the control voltage is so low, thermostats for furnaces with 24V controllers won't work and milivolt controls must make hard switch contacts so when shopping for gas controllers look for the words "milivolt compatible" and you're set.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Because my fireplace has a 110 VAC blower to circulate the air, the contractor installed a 110 VAC metal outlet box with 2 outlets, one was used for the blower, and one was unused which made this an exceptionally easy install. You will need 110 VAC from somewhere to operate this unit only the remote runs on batteries. In my master bedroom I have another gas fireplace without the blower due to the room size. It has no 110VAC so this could not be used on it. To help control it I bought a $30 2-AA cell powered setback thermostat from the hardware store that operates milivolt appliances and connected the "heat" circuit to the gas valve that is a battery powered solution, but not remote controlled. What worked great with it is that my bedroom starts warming up 2 hours before I must get up by the alarm clock and doesn't have a chill in the room when I get out of bed.

Now back to this product before installation, set it to "Remote" if you want it to work normally. It can be confusing if you set it to "on", because your fireplace will be stuck on! If you have access you can switch it "off" when on vacation to prevent accidental starting of your fireplace. You can also just shut off the gas which is the best way, then you can stuff the remote box out of sight.

The photo of the remote is more realistic to what I receieved in the box it has 2 buttons labeled on and off, and it operates from a single A23 12VDC battery Energizer A23 Battery, 12 Volt 2 Pack The A23 battery provides 12V by stacking a bunch of 1.5V button cells to make a battery so it's a small 12V and the nice part is for remote controls it transmits a long ways. On my house I can turn the fireplace on or off in any room of the house.

Finally this product operates in the 303 Mhz garage door opener band and has 65,000 possible combinations to prevent accidental operation of your neighbor's unit or vice versa. The last part included in the box is a special hangar to wall mount so you can hang up the remote. Amazon needs to correct their photo to match the product shipped, and clearly show the 4' long 110 VAC 2-prong plug so visual shoppers like me are not expecting an easy battery operated product. It was sheer luck that since I had a blower unit there was one extra outlet behind my fireplace trim. I bought this on amazon because the contractor quoted me $250 for a remote circuit and never followed up on it. It proved to be an easy DIY project that saved at least $200.

The Fireplace Remote was very easy to install and activate. It took a little over 3 mintues. The installation instructions were easy to read and follow. Very happy with the quality of the unit and the distance that the receiver operates is more than advertised in the manual! Very nice unit!

Keep in mind that you need 120V for the receiving unit. Although I installed my own electric to the fireplace which kept the unit hidden, the receiver came with a long electrical plug and connection wires which would possibly allow the receiver to be plugged into an electrical outlet close to the fireplace.

Unfortunately, when the package arrived, the battery remote looked nothing like the picture in the description and required being plugged in to a 120 volt outlet to work. Needless to say, I immediately arranged to return the item to Smart Home.

Easy to install as long as you have access to an outlet. Plugged the receiver in and it worked immediately with the remote from about 20 ft.

I was renting a house with a fake fireplace and the "firebox" was so shallow I didn't know what to put in there. I saw an ad in a home magazine and it had birch logs placed vertically leaning against the back wall of the fireplace in the shape of a teepee. I purchased this as a gift for my mom who has always wanted a fireplace.

It was bigger than I expected... the rock base is a solid piece of rock and it is quite heavy.

It produces a nice big flame, but seems safe.

It crackles like a real fireplace and throws off some decent heat. You can't heat a room with it, but you can feel it if you're close enough.

If you like fire, but can't afford a real fireplace, this is a cool option.

This item looks and burns eactly like the pictures in the advertisement. While only intended to be decorative, it does put out a reasonable amount of heat, so my wife can be warm on her end of the couch and I can be comfortable on mine. It has a low odor and pleasant crackling sound as it burns. I have one minor complaint. It will burn only about 2/3 of its fuel before it will no longer function. This is a venting issue. But the fuel is easily scooped out and placed in another partially used can with a spoon, so this is certainly not a show stopper. All in all, a very nice room accent.

This little fireplace cheers up so many cold evenings at my house! We don't have a built-in fireplace at our house...but this one is great. It crackles, the flame is actually quite high, and it seems to be very sturdy (have used it for 3 years now). The glass does get sort-of black/sooty, but I think that's just what happens with fire. You can (mostly) wash it off). You do need to buy the gel fuel cans, which can be pretty expensive. I buy them here on Amazon...have never been able to find them in stores. They're about $2-$4/can, which lasts about 4 hours or so. Still, it's worth it...we don't have a "fire" every night, but once a week or so, we have one. We use this fireplace inside with no problems, though the flame is pretty high, so with little kids it might be an issue. We have 3 dogs and have only had 1 or 2 "close calls."

Friends who come over always love this thing. Everyone wants to know where to buy it. I got mine a long time ago, so it's nice to know they're still selling it!
