Just finished putting it together and giving her a test run. Good to great quality. Looks great, easy assembly. They say "glass remains cool to the touch" which is 100% accurate and why we purchased for our living room thinking we wouldn't have to worry about our 14 month old burning himself. HOWEVER, what they don't tell you (until you get it and see the big warning sticker) is that the grid directly above the glass and exposed to everyone gets VERY VERY HOT. NOT good for kids or even animals. That being said, we really like it and still think it is a great value.

This was my 1st time ordering thru Amazon and my experience was rewarding. I was a little worried about ordering something on line without actually seeing it, pictures don't always give the proper representation of the product that is displayed. With that said, I am very pleased with the Electric fireplace that I recieved, it came in two boxes (one being the wooden console and the other the fireplace insert)and the UPS agent brought right into the house for me.

Now a couple of hints that will make the assembly easier: When you open the box, have a vacumm cleaner near by to remove the styrofoam from the items, due to static, the styrofoam is difficult to remove from the wood, but the vacumm will make cleanup easier as you remove from the packing. Inventory your parts and check off the paper as you locate them and then spread them out for easy recognition. Before you start assembling, spread a blanket on the floor to eliminate potential scratching, then follow the step by step instructions and take your time. Took approx 2.5 hours to assemble, this included removing stickers after the items were assembled (leave stickers on until assembled), the cam locks require a #2 phillips screwdriver, but I suggest using a #2 flat screwdriver to get the cams tight, then go back with the phillips to break the edges of the slots, this will allow the cover caps to be inserted into the cam. I utilized the corner shelf on the back of the console, so it would fit in the corner of the room and it is mounted on hinges, so if you want to eventually put it on a wall the shelf will just fold down.

The heater insert comes with a remote control that allows you to adjust the lights in the logs and also adjust the intensity of the flames. The remote will also turn the heat on / off as you need, there is a temperture switch located in a hidden panel that will allow you to set the heat and will shut off automatically once the temperture is reached. Very pleased with the realistic look of the logs / flame and also the adjustable shelfs that are located on each side of the console behind glass doors.

Downside: The media shelf is only 13" deep, did not allow my cable box to fully sit on the shelf without overhanging in the front, but by eliminating the back plate on the console, this was easily rectified.

Overall for the money, this was a great addition to my living room and the 55"flat screen looks great sitting on top.

This corner unit fireplace takes some time to put together. I would say at least 1 hour. The firebox had an issue when first plugged in, the heater blower sounded like a sneaker in dryer (clunk, clunk). We took off the back panel and discovered that through shipping a metal plate had fallen onto a rotating piece. We pushed it back into place and the unit is working just fine. It looks real nice holding a flat screen tv and the cable components and dvd player fit perfectly. Yes, I would recommend it.

This is a nicely designed console. It fits perfectly in the corner where I installed it and it looks good. But there are some

negative issues as well. The console arrives complely unassembled. Mine arrived with some damage. I contaced customer service and they were helpful but I decided to repair the damage myself rather than to pack it all up again and return it.

Assembly is not all that easy. A number of the pre-drilled holes were way to small to hand screw into unless you are a professional body builder. So I had to re-drill many of the screw holes. The assembly instructions are pretty good but the print is very small and difficult to read.

The burner unit arrives seperately. The manual specifies / suggests a dedicated electrical circuit, so for safety's sake I installed a new circuit. I already had a proper breaker, room in my panel, wire and outlet box. so it didn't cost me anything but time. If you can't do this yourself it might add a couple hunderd dollars to your costs to hire an electrician and to buy the necessary components.

I'm fairly handy and this not my first rodeo but it took me about 5 hours to complete this project. One more thing, the packing material flaked apart and made a big mess that was unavoidable no matter how carefull I was to not make a mess.

In spite of the experience being an overall P.I.T.A. the end result is a nice looking and relatively inexpensive corner electric fireplace / tv stand.

This Fireplace did not come with a remote control and the description said that it did. Unfortunately, that was a feature that I specifically wanted and I may have purchased another fireplace that I was considering that did have that feature instead of this one had I known this ahead of time. Other than that misrepresenation in the description, the fireplace does works great and comfortably heats our sun room which is a 13 X 16 room with a cathedral ceiling. We only used it to heat the room for holiday functions so far, but it has done the job quite nicely and everyone thought it looked very nice.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program It looks okay if you don't stare too hard at it, but the flames look obviously fake if you actually look directly at it while it's doing it's thing. The textured black finish on the MDF board parts looks as if it's meant to resemble cast iron, but it doesn't quite pull it off, it still looks like painted wood. What it does do well is make an acceptable supplemental heater for an average sized living area. There are two heat settings, and an adjustable thermostat. It would make it nicer if it had a crackling fire sound to add to the effect, instead of just a silent fire.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I have not had an electric fireplace before. But, I was certainly surprised at the heating uniformity this one produced. I was suspicious that it would heat in one spot, like those small space heaters.

I placed this in the lowest level of my home. I have a Tri-level and the basement level is the coldest. Athough it is not too cold yet, this electric Fireplace threw out some instant heat. The heat soon radiated into the room, and it kept the heat in the room uniform.

I liked the look of the flames and the wood, as it is quite realistic. The flames are high, and consistently producing nice images of fire.

My only concern is that the flames are placed in the back, and I would like the flames to billow out of the "logs" also. So, the logs are lit, and the flames are in the back.

The unit, itself, does not get hot, and there is an auto safety feature. You can operate this with or without the heat. PLUS, you can operate one heating element or both for greater warmth.

I placed the Fireplace on cinderblocks to bring the heat up a little more. It is not heavy, so you can move it where you may need it.

So, the room I have it in is narrow, but long. The heat remained constant and uniform. But what I do not know yet is if this uses more electricity than normal. I will test it out, But, in the meanwhile, it is wonderful!! Works great, looks better! Rizzo

This unit, unlike the Vienna model, was packed well. There was minimal/no assembly required. Mine did come with a remote control but I noted that other reviewers commented on not receiving one. I think there is a quality control issue with this company that needs to be addressed.

This fireplace is a bit smaller than I envisioned but it looks nice although perhaps a bit dated. I wish it had a wood top surface but from a distance it looks OK. The flames look like what you would expect from an electric fireplace. It makes the room feel cozy. There are two switches for heat settings, both 750 watts and one setting for visual effect only.

I can't comment (yet) on the heating efficiency but aesthetically the flames/fire look good. Like I said, the unit itself isn't very modern but it feels at home in the room where we put it. Overall I'd recommend this item but I would caution buyers on potential quality control issues like bad packing and missing parts.

The "flame" is about as realistic as any other electric fireplaces, and is strangely mesmerizing. The three pane window provides a better effect than the single flat pane found on most fireplaces. We put this unit in our bedroom which isn't well insulated, the heater has already come in handy on a couple of cold nights.

An excellent, easy to use product that I highly recommend.

I bought two of these and spent almost $700 and I am VERY DISSAPOINTED with their performance. You can't even feel the heat unless you are about a foot away from the unit. I live in California where it doesn't really get that cold in the winter but I was interested in saving money on my heating bill and this thing won't even heat my bedroom. The mantle is oak plywood, not solid oak as advertised. The only good thing about them is that they look nice. The Amish are being used as a marketing tool to sell these fireplaces. All of the parts come from China and are assembled by Amish in Ohio, so don't expect good Amish craftsmanship because you won't get it with a Heat Surge Electric Fireplace.

I purchased this item to heat a small trailer. After reading all the hype the company provides I thought this would be a good alternative heat source. NOT SO. When I called the company to return the item you are put thru the hoops. Your on hold for hours at a time. Just trying to talk to someone to get the return shipping label issued. In the meantime the company takes their sweet time in issueing the UPS return. You have 30 days to return the item... or your stuck with it. This includes from the time it was sent to you from the warehouse, weekends & holidays. Then they have the nerve to charge you $50.00 for the return. It's shocking to me that people would pay $350 for a heater that puts out the exact same amount of heat as a $19.95 heater available at most major retail stores. If you read the specification, the heater in the HeatSurge fireplace is a 1,500 watt quartz ceramic heater.

And guess what? My local Target has a whole section full of 1,500 quartz ceramic heaters for less than...$30 each. In fact, I bought a 1,500 watt quartz ceramic heater at Target for $19.95, and it works great! The one I bought for $19.95 works so good I bought several more for my house, one for my Mom, one for my Dad, and two for my sister, all at $19.95 each! Actually, some were on sale after Christmas for $14.95 each, and others were two for $20! Nice. And warm.

The hype from Heat Surge sounds convincing but is misleading.

The heater itself is no miracle of technology. Any 1500 watt electric heater will produce the same amount of heat. It's just the fact of elctrically produced heat. The difference is how well the heat is distributed.

The heat surge has a two speed blower that forces heated air out the vents along the top of the heater. That heated air then rises to the ceiling and eventually may fill the room with heat.

I put the Heat Surge in a basement room with no door. All the heat went up the stairs and my electric bill went up $75 per month. So much for saving money!

The "Amish built" mantel looks nice, but upon close inspection your will find that the "solid wood" is plywood with a laminate or veneer covering.

The "flickering flames" are an optical illusion produced by a scrolling acetate film in front of two chandelier bulbs. The "flames" on mine frequently stop moving becuase the belt that drives the acetate film developed a flat spot.

See Consumer Reports to find musch better values on portable heaters.

For my money, I would recommend going to WalMart and buying a $25 electric heater. It won't look as nice, but you will feel just as warm, maybe warmer.

Product is generally as described but not made in USA 'Made in China' is clearly stated on the attached label. The grate bed sits lower than my old grate, I hadn't realized this from the description. Not a problem if using fire starters, but it's difficult to wad up newspapers below the grate.

I bought this fireplace to replace a larger corner gel fuel fireplace that I'd retrofitted with glowing electric logs. I wanted something smaller and with a flame effect. This is a good-looking, solid piece of furniture that comes ready to plug in--absolutely no assembly required. Shipping was free, and the delivery man took it out of the packing for me so that I could make sure it was undamaged and that it worked. That was an unexpected extra.

FLAMES AND REALISM

The flames are fairly realistic, but you do have to be fairly close to the fireplace. When I'm across the room, I see the glow and flicker but not the flames, I suspect this is because the firebox is higher up, and if I were looking down on it, I would see the flames. (I base that supposition on the fact that I have a small electric stove in my bedroom, and the flames are easily visible from anywhere in the room, whether I am standing or lying in bed.) Had I realised, I probably would have bought a different fireplace with the firebox closer to floor level; however, it's not enough to make me want to send the fireplace back. The flames switch on and off with a remote. I haven't figured out whether the remote also controls the heater, but I don't think so.

Something to note with all electric fireplaces I've seen is that the mirror at the back (which gives the illusion that the flames are coming up from between logs) and the glass covering the firebox reflect what's in the room, which interferes with the illusion. My fireplace looks more realistic at night in low light, when it doesn't reflect the polished wood floor. My bedroom has dark blue carpet which simply reflects as dark and the flame effect of the stove is therefore more realistic at all times of day.

HEAT

I've turned the heat on to make sure it works, but it's not heater weather yet, so I can't comment on its heating ability in a cold room. I doubt it's powerful enough to be the sole heat source for my quite large living/dining room, but it will be fine as an auxiliary heater. And anyway, heating wasn't a prime consideration for me: I bought the fireplace for ambience rather than practicality.

BULB REPLACEMENT

I haven't actually done it, but from the directions it's much easier than bulb replacement in my little electric stove. The bulbs are standard candelabra bulbs with the small base, which are available in any supermarket and therefore more convenient than the halogen bulbs used by the stove.

BOTTOM LINE

An attractive addition to my living room. But if you have $2,000 to spend, look into the Dimplex Opti myst. Developed in Europe and previously sold only there, it is now available in the U.S. The technology creates an astoundingly realistic flame and smoke effect. Beyond my price range unfortunately.

I love this fireplace. I have a decent size bedroom but the available corner is very small. I decided I would have to purchase some kind of stand rather than a fireplace until I saw this one. It quickly heats the bedroom, is attractive and fits in with the decor.

I was looking for a realistic electric fireplace that would work for our bedroom. This one looks good, realistic flames, nice heater,very happy with the product itself. Dimplex is the best brand of electric fireplace, I have 3 of them. This is a good product but I could not find any other way to purchase it except on line no stores carried this one. Love it... Hated the shipping. No problems with Amazon for all prior purchases but for this we had 2 of this item broken in shipping; the first one we returned because it arrived in pieces, second one kept because damage was minimal but I didn't want to take another day off and had no confidence a third would arrive without damage, and I really wanted the product. Bottom line; It is not packaged well enough for delivery. Carrier Home Direct service was poor. Drop and run, unhelpful, kind of rude, and refused to take the return on one trip due to poor communication with Amazon. Ended up waiting around the house on 3 different days to take delivery in the end of one slightly damaged product and to return a badly broken one! I will likely never purchase anything from Amazon again unless they are things like books or other non breakable items. "Free shipping" ended cost me 2 vacation days and my Saturday off sitting around waiting. Yikes!

The only reason that I rated it a 4 is because we have it mounted under a flat screen TV and the heat vent is on the top of the fireplace...we made a metal redirect for the heat and painted it black. This fireplace looks nice, but the corners weren't finished well. Plus with the heat coming out of the top, it heats nothing but the wall it is hanging on. There isn't a fan to blow the heat into the room. This may be a nice feature if you have small kids as it remains cool every where but the very top. It does nothing to heat even the smallest room. This is the cheapest I have seen for a wall mounted electric fireplace so i guess you get what you pay for...

I love this, makes it feel cozy and warm and I don't even use the heat. The fan cannot be turned off, so you do hear it. For me that's OK as I only use it when we are watching TV. in the bedroom, but it's like a wall air conditioner; once you get use to it you don't notice it, at least for us. This one does NOT go into the wall, it hangs on a bracket you put on the wall, so it would not look good from the sides, again not a problem for us as you only see it from the front. Looks so real to me.

I liked this product in general. It looks rather real and also produces adequate heat. Unfortunately, I really did not have a place to put this that would make it look presentable, because the fireplace is affixed to the wall and cannot be recessed into the wall (because it needs ventilation for the heat part of the device), it looks rather awkward nailed to the wall with the big, clunky power cord. I knew this beforehand, but I did not know it would look so odd when placed on the wall. I eventually sold it to a friend. If you have an appropriate place to put this fireplace that disguises how it protrudes from the wall and downplays the power cord, I think this could work for you.

What a fantastic looking log rack!

Basically, since we just bought a house I didn't want to spend the money on an expensive log rack, and this turned out to the be the perfect thing for storing the wood that I am splitting. So many people toss good burnable wood away because they don't want to pay tree service professionals extra to cut the wood down to fireplace size.

I built this log rack with pressurized wood from Lowe's. The base is made with 8' 2x4's, the verticals are made with 4' 2x4's, and the width is made with 2' 2x4's which totals a half cord of wood (8' x 4' x 4'). It works great. I put deck screws in the pre-drilled bracket holes for added stability.

I also put a piece of plywood on top, and since it was angled (I didn't care about cutting the vertical pieces to size initially, so I just trimmed them up afterwards), I put shingles on it, and now I have a gorgeous looking covered log rack. I will probably buy a second bracket kit next spring once I split the rest of the wood and want to store a whole cord for next winter.

I would advise you to try and find some cinderblocks to put the rack up on, so air can circulate around the bottom of the wood and will dry it out even faster.

All in all I would highly recommend this log rack kit regardless of your experience with wood-working in the past!

I assembled mine using pressurized wood and exterior screws. The base is made with 8' 2x4's and one cross 2x4 added to the center of the base for stiffing. The verticals are 4' 2x4's. It works great.

Works as advertised. Got a 10 x 11.5 heavy duty tarp from Home Depot, some pressure treated 2 x 4's a couple of bungees, and in no time I had a log rack measuring 9.5' long by 4' high. I used a couple of screws to maintain width, but that was not necessary. These brackets are plenty strong, and should last a long time.

I have been using these for several years to build stands to season firewood. I use two lengths of 8 foot 2x4's spliced together with Simpson strong ties to make each stand about 16' long and use 6' uprights at each end. I elevate the entire setup on surplus masonry blocks to keep it about 1' off the ground and support about every 2'. So far the 2x4 have not rotted as they did when I first had them set directly on the ground. The only other improvement I will make is to put a rope across the top of my uprights to keep them from splaying outward under the force of the stack of wood. Each setup holds well over a cord of wood if cut in 18" lengths.
