If you follow the instructions and use the included cheap plastic inserts and the provided screws, the insert will crack and the recommended 3/8 dia. drill size will not allow you to secure it tightly to a wall. Toss that package and get some 3/16" x 2" wing nut expansion anchors from Home Depot or Lowe's to go into your "already its too late I drilled the 3/8" holes." Secure the two support plates to the wall, adjust with a level and tighten. Then it works great and is not going to come loose. The glass front insert, is difficult to level in the side slots, but with some adjustment you can get it level. When filling the fuel tray remove the glass front, even though the instructions fail to mention this...any spills wll go up in flames before the fireplace fuel box intended fuel will. Fuel is expensive and if it were pegged to the price of a barrel of oil it would break the bank. All of that being said plus an additional $5.00 spent in metal wall anchors, the unit is beautiful and a perfect size for a small apartment, office or even a kitchen to add atmosphere with a bonus of a bit of heat also.

Love this fireplace, very easy to hang and lightweight. Does not get overly hot against the wall from what I've seen. Fire warms the room nicely. Definately recommend. The only issue I've had is it's hard to get the biofuel into the bins without and spilling it...and you DON'T want to spill it as it's an accelerant and will burn rapidly on anything it touches. So it would be nice if they would come up with some pour spout for the biofuel to make it easier! Otherwise, LOVE IT!

Just received my Chelsea stainless steel fireplace. I ordered the item on line on a Tuesday and received it by Friday. Item arrived very nicely packaged as to avoid any dents...great as this has occured when I've ordered other stainless steel items. Item is just as it appears on line. Very nice. It is very light so I should have no problem mounting this without the help of my husband. It's about the size of a 27" flat screen and will look great under the television. The best thing about this order was the great customer service I received. I called the seller directly as I had a problem with promotional code. I think I spoke to the owner and he informed him of my issue. This does work very well, perhaps only in the right chimneys, perhaps only when installed correctly. I have had this for four months and will adjust my review, later, if a problem develops (such as a puncture).

It stops so much cold air that I need to put my hand directly under it just to feel a difference in ambient temperature. This also means that it stops the fireplace odors that were entering the room. I've even tried it with the flue open and it still keeps the cold out.

It does not self-install: you have to take the time and be careful. I can now do it in about three minutes. Some words on installation:

After you THINK you have installed it correctly, feel around all of the edges for leaks. When you feel a leak, simply push or pull that section of the balloon into the right spot to fully stop the leak.

The balloon does give the impression of deflating, but this is a misnomer. In cold temperatures a balloon will shrink, not deflate, due to the air cooling in the balloon. This happened once, so far, to the point where cold air began infiltrating. All you need do is to inflate it a little, while the balloon is still in place (the long inflation tube makes it easy) and then check around the edges again as above.

Our room has been truly comfortable for the first winter in 15 years due to this. My only concern is it's ruggedness. If it does not puncture, it will pay for itself in about 2 years. I have been somewhat intentionally rough with it to test this and, so far, am impressed that it hasn't punctured.

UPDATE January 2010:

Have now been putting this in and out weekly for the second winter. Performs as well as new. Seems to be quite resistant to puncturing (and it's been pushed to the limit). If it were to puncture at this point, I would buy another one.

I ordered two directly from their website. One of them had a slow leak. I called them up and they sent out a replacement immediately at no cost. That alone deserves 5 stars!

As for the plugs, they work as advertised. Don't expect them to create an airtight seal because they don't and the product description doesn't claim to either. However, it does dramatically reduce drafts, just doesn't completely eliminate them. The installation is fairly simple. Results will very depending on how it's installed. For example, I find that it creates a better seal if I don't inflate it completely. I was able to get optimal performance after a few tries.

The alternative was to get top dampers. That'll probably give me a closer to airtight seal but for my area, it cost $500-$800 installed. I figured I had nothing to lose to give these a try and I'm very glad I did.

Well worth the money!! And it's a piece of cake to install, maybe 3 minutes or less. I have two fireplaces, and bought 2 of these, two years ago. You just blow into the long nozzle to inflate it. When you turn the nozzle's end to close it, a bit of air escapes, but that's good. It will squish into the corners better that way if it's not completely inflated. You lift it into your fireplace with both hands and just tuck it into place. Go all around it with your fingers, and tuck it in. If you feel any bit of draft coming through, all it needs is some patting and poking to close it off. If you feel it's not inflated enough, just use the long nozzle to add more air. The nozzle can be easily tucked up out of the way after you inflate it. There is also an attached black plastic rod that holds it up securely from the fireplace floor, and it adjusts for height. After a season, it may deflate slightly due to changes in the ambient temperature, so just add more air. Easy maintenance! It is made of tough plastic to withstand abrasion and punctures. You can't see it from the room, because it's black. If you want to build a fire, just grab it, and it pops right out. I had a terrible draft in my basement rec room, and it shut off the draft immediately! Now the heat stays in! (And so does the air conditioning!) Every fireplace should have one!

I just put this in my chimney, and I have noticed an immediate difference. I used to be able to feel a draft when I was near the fireplace, but now I feel nothing. Once you get it together it looks and works great. The instructions are horrible and we had to cut the metal brackets that hold the fire place to the hearth. They were to big and the hearth would not sit flush around the insert otherwise. Also you need to build the hearth around the fireplace insert. There is absolutely no way to insert it and put the brackets on it after the hearth is built. So before you put the top part of the hearth on, install the fireplace part and then finsh by adding the top piece.

I'm so excited to come home to my Media electric fireplace which brings a cozy, warm and relaxed feeling to my bedroom. I love this fireplace but there are 2 manuals (one for the wooden parts and one for the fireplace itself). Given that they are separated we started with the one related to the wooden parts and we missed one step of the second manual, hence we had to disassemble or just keep going. We just kept going (we skip the step that prevents the fireplace itself from being pulled, so we hope nobody want to pull it :).

Other than that I do not have major complains but feel very warm in winter.

I've been using these for many years and am now about to restock. A single 2x2 inch block will light a full sized log in my fireplace, so no need to have kindling or newspaper around. They don't flare up fast either, so you can light one, place it by hand on the fire grate, then pile logs over. Fire starts in 5 minutes or so. Very compact and inexpensive, unlike similar products in home improvement or fireplace stores. It took me a while to realize how perfectly they light charcoal in my chimney-style starter for the grill. These make good gifts too, for Christmas or as a house gift. A useful, inexpensive, practical product.

Can't really complain, especially when I've seen simpler log holders without a tote for almost double the price.

And just like the picture, the larger handles of the tote don't really stay down, but it's made of a laminated canvas, so it's stiffer than simple duck canvas. In time, it'll probably get softer with use and lay flatter to the exterior side of the holder. The metal rods at the ends of the tote (where the handles are attached) aren't entire enclosed, so pay attention to it when lifting the empty tote. The fit is loose enough that if you're careless, they may slip out.

I purchased this product to heat my 24x24 (7'6" ceiling) garage under my house. During the coldest periods where I live (Western Connecticut) the garage gets down to the low 40s.

After installing the heater and powering it up, in about 10 minutes the chill is gone from the space. After about an hour the space is very comfortable (about 62 degrees an increase of about 15 degrees from when it was turned on). By the end of the second hour the space warmed to 68 degrees. The built in thermostat turned down to about 3/4 maximum maintains that temperature.

The unit's internal fan is a little bit noisy, but since the unit is intended for a garage/workshop the fan noise is in my opinion not a big deal.

The unit is very well made and easy to install. After installing a 220 Volt 20A single circuit receptacle, I hung the unit in the center of the room from the ceiling about 4 feet from the rear wall of the garage. The bracket that came with the unit is very sturdy and will accommodate several differnt mounting options.

If you had a bigger space or an uninsulated detached garage, a larger unit with more capacity will be needed (5000 watts or more), however for a single car garage or a well insulated two car garage this unit is an excellent value.

I have a 24x24 garage with 10 feet ceilings. I did exactly as the last review did, mount it on the ceiling about four feet off the wall. Don't expect this to heat your space quickly. It works quite slowly and you can't really notice the heat, which I think is great. I turned it on at 4am in the morning and the garage temp was 40 degrees. After about 15 minutes, temp was up to 43 degrees. In about an hour it was up to 52 degrees and after 90 minutes it was up to 60 degrees. This unit is quality built and extremely quiet. It lacks the bell and whistle but is very inexpensive compared to other units. It only requires 240 volts and 20 amp breakers, all standard in the home. ( the other heaters require 30 amp breaker which requires more cost). it also come with a cord which save you another $40 over the other models. I highly recommended this unit as it compares well with the 5000 watt units with out all the extra cost. Plus if you want it to heat up a small area in the garage a little quicker then go buy a $40 floor heater and you will have the best of both worlds. Enjoy !

Installation was very simply and it does the job of warming up my garage. However......

It's only been in use for about 2 months and the built-in thermostat sticks so the heater doesn't shut off at it's preset temperature!!! It just stays on full heat!!! This could be a hazard!

Instead of going through the headache of sending it back for warranty service, I'm just going to buy a programmable thermostat rated for this unit and controlling it that way.

I would not buy this product again due to the thermostat problem. The built-in thermostat is very cheaply made aparently. Quality should be paramount due to the type of unit that it's in. I should have looked for a unit made in the USA. This unit is, like most everything else, made in CHINA.

I had been shopping for an affordable garage heater for some time, and I decided that this heater fit the bill.

Although I was confused by the substitution, I was happy with the price difference and once the heater arrived, I was unable to find any differences between the Oullet model I received and this Dimplex model that I ordered, other than the color. The pictures and specs all appear to be exactly the same. Since it's in my garage and being a Buckeye fan I like anything scarlet, I was happy with the red color and decided to keep and install the heater.

Most reviews I've read on both models complain about the noise level. Well, when I removed the heater from the box it came in, I blew on the fan to see if it rattled or anything, and noticed that one of the blades clipped the electric motor while turning. I simply removed the metal cage, bent the offending blade ever so slightly so it no longer contacted the motor, and re-installed the cage. Easy, but definitely something worth checking before you install it.

This heater requires a 220v outlet (see pictures of what the plug looks like) and since I did not have one in my garage already, I had to install one which I'd never done before. I needed 50 feet of wire, a dual pole 20 amp breaker, various pieces of conduit, a receptacle and a couple of junction boxes. I got pretty fancy with the receptacle (added a weatherproof plate over the receptacle, etc) and total cost to wire up the new outlet was about $70. You can certainly do it cheaper than I did, but be advised if you need a 220v outlet, it will add to the cost of installing this heater.

I hung the heater on the wall using the included bracket, but it came with no screws to attach it to the wall. I went to the hardware store and bought two lag screws, and screwed it right into a stud. VERY sturdy installation, I could probably hang on the bracket if I wanted to.

This heater really pushes a ton of warm air. It is a bit noisy, but the fan blows really hard so I can't really see how it could be any quieter and push as much air as it does. It has a nice dial-type thermostat on the back. It doesn't have a certain temperature that you can set it to, but you can just turn it on until it's as warm as you want it in the garage, then twist the dial until it clicks off. Then, it will click back on and regulate the temperature.

I haven't tested it yet on a really cold day to see how long it takes to raise the temp, but I can tell you that with as much air as it moves, I'm confident it will work great. I'll update this review once I try it in really cold weather.

Overall, I'm very satisfied, but just be advised, if the price drops about $50 and the heater ships from Northern Tool, there's a good chance you'll receive the red Oullet model. But it's a great heater and you'll save $50, so for me it was a win-win!

Pleasantly surprised by this heater. I was in the midst of finishing my detached oversize two car garage and the heater choice was on my to-do list. I was going to require about 16000 BTU with standard insulation in my climate (Syracuse NY), which would equate to about 4800-5000W electric heater. Since I was over insulating the garage walls (R17 walls, R40 ceiling), I was confident I could get away with a slightly smaller unit the 4000W Dimplex. If needed I can supplement in a local area of the garage with a small 1500W space heater that I already had.

Installation was straight forward, since I was putting in all new electrical circuits in the garage anyway, it was easy enough to add the dedicated 240V circuit for this Dimplex unit. My unit required a NEMA 6-20 recepticle.

I started using the Dimplex unit with only some of the walls insulated, and was pleased that I could get a 10degF increase in room temperature in about 60-70 minutes even with the outside temp being 22-25 (starting temp in unfinished garage around 32degF).

I do not anticipate a large impact on my electric bill. I pay $0.05 (5 cents) for 1 kWhour. This ia 4kW heater, so for one hour of run time I pay $0.20 (20 cents). The heater will likely get used for about two hours a day ($0.40), for a total of about $12 a month.

Why only four stars? Well my only complaint about the heater is that it doesn't have a built in fan delay. When the unit kicks on, it powers the heating element and fan right away. So the fan is blowing cold air over a heating element that isn't up to temperature yet. This is a very small annoyance and a small inefficiency of the heater. The heater does have a shut down delay on the fan, it will keep the fan blowing over the hot element when the thermostat kicks the element off. This extracts and distributes the remaining residual heat from the element. Still the start up fan delay would have been nice.

This is our third Dimplex living flame electric heater. We have two that resemble free-standing coal stoves and our last purchase which is this Traditional Electric Fireplace, Burnished Walnut. The wooden surround is real wood and not particle board. It requires assembly but is so well made, it is actually a pleasure to put together. Good furniture grade product. Love it!

I would have given a rating of 4.5 stars instead of 5 stars. It looses 1/2 point because the "flame" effect seems a little dim. In the other two heaters, the flames are much brighter and really look authentic. This looks a little holographic but is not objectionable. From a distance of 4'-6', the effect is nice but requires the room to be a little dark. Around dusk, you get a nice cozy feel when it is on and it completes the mood which is very nice.

To compensate for the dim flames, I considered putting higher wattage bulbs in, but they are mini-base bulbs and only go to 60 watt, which is what the fireplace came with. Careful consideration led me to increase the flame brightness by creating a reflector to augment the light. The bulbs are covered by a small inspection panel which is easily removed. I cut two pieces of aluminum foil the size of the inspection cover. I attached one piece to the inside of the inspection cover, shiniest side out and the other to the space below the bulbs, shiniest side up to create a two sided reflector. I don't exaggerate when I say that it doubled the brightness of the flames immediately! An added unexpected benefit is that the unit is cooler to the touch on the inspection cover, which got quite hot from the burning bulbs. Apparently, the reflector reflects the heat from the bulbs as well as the light, hence the cooler feel. A good job all around!

I would only ever consider buying a Dimplex product as I have done so for over 20 years and have always been completely satisfied with their performance. The 3D flame effect is unmatched and the remote control is a nice touch. I highly recommend this particular product, and look forward to enjoying it for years to come, especially since I made a simple

modification which enhances the experience.

I received this as a Christmas present and absolutely love this product. It was easy to assemble. Our home is 1820 sq feet and this product is in our living room. I have been able to keep my thermostat on my central unit on 68 degrees. This heater heats a large portion of our home, about 840 sq ft. Not only does it distribute the heat well, it is beautiful. Now I am just waiting on my electric bill and am hoping to see a decrease. I will update about that later.

I love this unit... Not as big as some electric fireplace units but we set ours up on a corner table in the livingroom and it looks great! The wood is beautiful. Our visitors have all commented on how nicely our new (electric) fireplace looks and how it has brought a warm, cozy, and inviting autmosphere into our home.
