I purchased this this Stainless Steel Flue Stretcher because I had a new outdoor fireplace on my covered patio built that had a "smoking" problem due to it's location in relation to the rest of my house. I had a very short cap from the same company installed just to keep rain out, but it did nothing for the smoking problem. When I studied the problem a bit on a chilly evening I noticed that smoke was literally collecting around the short cap, not really drawing much at all. The airstream over my house seems to be a bit higher and seemed to create an area of low pressure of sorts below where the cap was located. I ordered this cap to try and push the exhaust from the fireplace into the airstream over the top of the house. I can tell you it is a very well made piece of hardware, very sturdy built, good materials and it's fairly easy to install. I would recommend that you use 100% silicone sealant (I used GE brand) very heavy and neatly around the base. I suspect over time and wind gusts the mounting screws of this unit could loosen and it might get blown off, the silicone will prevent it from moving even if the screws loosen. This is my solution, you can determine your own. By the way, the silicone on the outside is not subjected to any heat, I tested this, after the fireplace had been going for a few hours the outside of the flue stretch near the base was just lukewarm and so was the silicone. One last thing, I guess I did not mention that indeed the flue stetcher solved about 90% of my "smoking" issues, the other 9% or so I resolved with a "Grate Wall of Fire" fire grate which forced the heat right up the back of the fireplace and up the chimney almost creating a suction. I will never get 100% for an outdoor fireplace, but I think it's pretty good now. Finally, for those with a similar problem as mine, I would recommend this product, with the caveats I mentioned above.

I received this product yesterday morning. The stove came in perfect condition, no marks, dents etc.

I ran it on and off the high heat setting for 12 hours. The floor stayed cool, I was able to hold my hand on the bottom of the heater box without burning my hand even on the highest setting. I lowered the heat in the house due to the extreme warmth coming from the product, the living room and kitchen and surrounding area stayed very comfortable all 12 hours. The flame looks great and adds a nice touch to the living room.

I would recommend product to anyone.

First experienced an electric fireplace in the bedroom at a B&B we stayed in last fall. We decided we really need one of those to take the chill off in our own home. We were able to purchase this Duraflame electric fireplace this spring at the end of the season for a fabulous deal (~ $80). We had the opportunity to use it ~ 6 weeks before the temps warmed up outside. Can run just the fireplace flames (without heat) or even put something decorative on the top of it with no fear of heat which comes out below. Size is ~ 23" high x 20" wide and 12"deep. The info on the DFS-S550BLK says it heats up to 400 square feet and uses 4600 BTU's. The noise level of the fan is not deafening but you can hear that it is on. We planned to put it in our bedroom but have used it our large living room with a vaulted ceiling (plus fan) which always seems chilly in the winter. There has been no noticeable increase in our electric bill since it has been keeping the room warm enough to keep the heat pump from kicking on. Easy enough to move from room to room but we wish we would have purchased a second one!

It'll get a good workout this coming fall through spring along with our wood burning stove & fireplace. These electric fireplaces are great to have and we wish we would have known about them years ago!

Added Nov 26, 2010: Now that the cold has kicked in again, we have run this every day now for over a month. Our electric bill reflected only ~ $25 increase. The propane truck also arrived to 'top off' our tank, since he didn't need to fill it so only a 40% fill, which was expensive enough ~ $650. If this fireplace as well as our real wood stove continues to offset these high fuel costs with less propane fuel deliveries, we'll continue to be quite happy.

Added Oct 23, 2012: Noticed that this is now a Cabelas branded item. When I purchased this, it was (and still is for us) a Duraflame product. Actually, we just purchase our second Duraflame electric fireplace (black). Paid about the same too; $75 we have a great local salvage type place to pick up products out of season or last year's models. Initially looked the same from the outside, but there is a slight change we noticed immediately opening the inside. There are 4 knobs (instead of 3) to adjust both the temperature and the brightness of the 'flame'. The 'log' looks a little more realistic too; identical to the Cabelas one. Sometimes this fireplace is also highlighted on the shopping channels on tv in a variety of colors. Now we have two working portable firplaces to offset our winter propane bill. Great product!

I bought this stove and raved about it to my friends. So cute. So lightweight. So inexpensive. What's not to love? But within a few weeks of use it began making a noise as the motor inside rotates something to create the flame affect. A pretty noticable noise. I'll be returning it today. Had this not happened it would have received 5 starts from me.

The hookup kit is for low pressure LPG and I needed high pressure parts. The description does not point this out! I returned the kit for credit no problem.

I used this with ProCom Dual Fuel Stove 25,000 BTU, Model# QD250T also purchased on Amazon. It worked fine for the nook that I put the stove in.

The line is pretty short, but that is ok. I would rather keep the line short so it does not kink. I see some dryers that have been hooked up to propane and the flexible gas line is all 'mashed' in the corner.

Put the valve on the black pipe, put some pipe dope on the connections. Came with 3 different fittings, but only used one and put the others in my spare parts box... you never know when you need one of these do dads..

Every spring I wipe down my insert and groan... this year I tried this stove polish and WOW. I know it says for unpainted stoves but I used it like shoe polish. Put a little on a rag, rubbed it on, buffed it off until the cloth came up clean. With a painted surface, I used very little but the stove looks brand-new again! It took ring marks off where I put my 'water dishes' and the wax marks where I keep a jar of candle wax for scenting the house.

I can't wait to visit Mom and the in-laws so I can do their free-standing stoves!

Update: October 2009 First Burn.

I expected a nasty smell and there wasn't one. Just a little 'aroma' but nothing nasty. Over the summer, when dusting the insert, if I dusted lightly with a dry cloth it looked great. This week, I gave it a good buffing and it reactivated the product (the cloth was black) and looked all shiny and freshly polished again. The other two stoves we did also look great and I will put this on my list of MUST HAVE products. It's not fast and easy but the best things in life rarely are!

This product does what it is supposed to. One suggestion is to order two tubes, as one is not enough to cover an average size wood stove.

I needed to replace my TV stand with a smaller one that could still hold a 40" TV to fit into my new smaller apartment. If you need to save space, this is the best stand out there for mid sized TVs (Fits up to 42"). I couldn't believe how fast it showed up. I did standard shipping and it showed up the next day. Unreal.

Assembly seemed intimidating, but like other reviewers have said, it's actually easier than it looks. The one thing I don't like about it is that my TV seems to be tilted toward the floor ever so slightly. When sitting down you don't notice it at all, but looking at it from the side you can tell that the screen does not quite point straight out.

Overall, perfect solution to my space needs and it looks really good.

We had issues with our fireplace remote for about a year and kept fiddling with it, replacing batteries, etc. Finally we had enough and I googled the part number. I was pleased to find this at Amazon and prime to boot.

It was an EXACT replacement of both the transmitter and receiver. I followed the instructions and had no problem replacing the receiver. All the connections are quick connecting spades and are insulated. No tools needed. Just disconnect the old receiver and connect the new one -wire for wire. Hard to go wrong. The whole project, including reading the directions, took 30 minutes. It's been working flawlessly for the past six months.

I would have given this a 5 except for the cost. Just seems very expensive for what it is. I did shop around and couldn't find much better, so I guess that's the deal.

Got it and hooked up only two wires to the fireplace control and hit the "on" button. Poof, the flames came on immediately. A click of the "off" button, and the flames went off. Why pay $100 more for a HeatnGlo remote when the Skytech works just as well?

I was looking for a quality log carrier. After reading the reviews for various log carriers, this carrier appeared to be the best for the price range I was looking for. The carrier arrived a few days after I ordered it and I was very satified with the construction and size. I have used it numerous times in the few weeks I have had it and have found it to be extremely useful It makes carrying the wood into the house so much easier than carrying it in my arms. We have a fieplace wood burning insert and have a fire almost daily from morning to night. I have used it quite a bit with no problems. The material is heavy enough and the handles are attached very well. I recommend this product to anyone.
