The fireplace works fine in it's most important aspect: generating heat. It has a stylish, very contemporary design. The glass front is thick and smooth and you don't need to worry about cracking it. The blue backlit display turns off after a few seconds which is nice. Great remote that supports all functions. There are a few annoyances that were weighing too heavily for us and made me return it, though: First, since the unit is only a few inches deep and it is either wall-mounted or on the stand there is no easy way to hide the cord, which really spoils the appearance. The fan is a little noisy and keeps on running even when the heat is turned off, probably to cool the two lamps and to generate the light effect. The "crackling wood" sound effect sounds hollow and thin but can thankfully be turned off. Finally, the light effect is not realistic at all, just a waving background.
If you don't mind these annoyances, it is a good product.

Even though it doesn't look like a tradtional fireplace, I still like it. It fits just about anywhere without taking up a lot of space. I don't like that it doesn't have life like flames; it's just a glowing, moving background. I bought it mainly because it has a REMOTE CONTROL!!! That is a wonderful feature! It has three stages of glowing brightness, which is great. I don't like the sound that is supposed to be crackling wood, but when I lower the sound, it sounds better and more like a crackling fireplace. It's easy enough to carry up to the bedroom, den, basement, wherever you want to put it. Just plug it into any outlet; but because it's 1500 wats,you mustn't have anything else plugged into the same socket outlet. I would recommend it to anyone.I never write reviews, so you know I must like this product. Enjoy!

I just finished my call in to the Bionaire customer service dept. Hope when you buy your heater you won't need to do this . It took 4 phone calls to even get a person on the phone. Took me over an hour. Then they wanted to argue about the warranty rather than help me to either return the product or to repair it. It lasted from Dec 13th 2010 to March 1st 2011. Was pleased with product until it quit working. Won't buy another Bionaire product ever !! This was a disaster. The third day I used my fireplace it burst into flames. I am so concerned that this product is not safe I was right there and could put the fire out if not the house would have caught on fire. I've reported this problem to amazon and The Nerds, and the manufacturer, and have not heard anything back.Terri glad to be alive...

Bought this for my hubby for Christmas and he was thrilled. It looks really expensive, but wasn't compared to others I looked at. The antique bronze is what I think I bought and it's sort of like a brass finish but darkened. It looks great!

This set works ok for a decorative set. If using for a wood burning fireplace, this will not work well any more than 2 years. We burn wood from Thanksgiving till about mid March. After 2 years or so of use, the handle portion of the tools broke off because the material is so thin. I installed this kit in about 2 minutes. Faster than expected. Simple plug in and placement. I ended up moving the fan from the center to the edge of the fire box. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I wanted the heat to blow from the left side of the firebox which is closer to the center of the room. The temperature sensor seems like a good idea, and its just a magnet, so easy to install. The fan is not completely silent. I may consider a speed control which could quiet the motor down a bit. Its not very loud and should not be a deal breaker. As far as the airflow it can be felt, but its not a rushing wind like a portable heater. The loose dust in the firebox definitely can be blown into your house, as a reference. I used a butane gas match to test the airflow, from outside of the firebox. At the bottom of the firebox, the flame bent at a 45 degree angle suggesting the fan is pulling a lot of air. On the top of the firebox the flame of the gas match kept being blown out, which suggests a lot of airflow coming through the top of the firebox. Again, not a rushing wind like a portable heater but the tests suggest airflow. Finally, my fiancee made a comment that she felt the heat and made no complaints about the fan noise. She told her friends, who came over for a party, and they all had positive comments about the heat and fan. I told them I paid about $65 at Amazon.com and one of the friends told her husband he must buy one. I am happy with this product and hope this review helps.

This item has not disapointed. It has helped adding extra heat to my Condo by distributing it more effeiently.The fan is a bit noisier that I had expected but is no problem,most people have some other source of noise on ie. radio,tv,etc.Only negative point is that it is not UL or CSA approved.
Very much worth the price and very asy to install.

Looks great, sturdy and convenient to use! Not to mention the price was perfect. The only concern you may have is if you are not one to close the flue when not using the firsplace. This hook looked just as it does in the picture. The description describes it has a hand forged item but after recieving it and taking a closer look I have come to the conclusion that the hand forged means someone placed the metal into a machine. The hooks and back strap are just too symetrical to really be something done completely by hand. The rippled pattern on the ends of the strap are clearly a stamped pattern not tool marks from a hammer like I was expecting. Once installed it does look great and does exactly what I wanted. I don't regret the purchase. Saw this fireplace door at a local pool shop and waiting around to get one and never could get waited on, so I came home and sure enough . . . Amazon had it through one of their partners at a cheaper price than I could find elsewhere.
The product came within a couple days and it was shipped with much care and good packaging. I unpacked it and followed the directions enclosed that were easy enough to follow. Took about 45 minutes total to unpack it and put it in place total. Takes a screwdriver and that's about it.
This is a very pretty fireplace door and looks great in my newly remodeled family room. Quality and workmanship appear to be top notch.
One word of caution for prospective buyers . . . ensure you are ordering the correct model number so you get the correct color. At this point and time the description for this item indicates black or nickel finish but no option to choose . . . the part number of the one I ordered was black which is what I wanted.
