Buy Ceramic Honeycomb Catalytic Combustor (CC-251 / 1P346) for VERMONT

We bought a Condar replacement catalytic combustor in 2005 for our Vermont Castings Intrepid II wood stove. Previously we did not have good luck with a new replacement catalytic combustor (more on this later). Our stove was built in 1983, it was the first model catalytic Intrepid II built. The life of the catalytic combustor depends on how much air the stove gets during catalytic operation. If it has air leaks from seams, the combustor only lives a couple of years, not six as advertised. I got tired of taking the stove to the barn and chinking it with stove cement to seal it up. After it ran a while, the stove cement fell out anyway. Operating the stove this way shortened the life of the combustor and the stove burned more wood due to the increased air fed to the fire. Lately I decided to chink up the seams on the stove body with aluminum foil. .. This did not last very long and required a lot of maintenance. Improved chinking made from length of stainless steel wire wrapped in steel wool and this all wrapped loosely with aluminum foil has proved to be a durable and lasting stove seam sealant. The old 1983 Intrepid II runs a steady temperature (550 to 600 degrees surface temperature, has no leaks and runs longer than it did when it was new (better seal). Stove cement is useless as far as I am concerned. It crumbles after a while from heat and the stove body flexes as it heats and cools, which destroys the cement seal. The method I describe for chinking the seam does not fail. I finally had to change the combustor because it did not work well anymore after 8 years. The new one performs beautifully. Try this trick, you do not have to move the stove, nor do you have to cure the seal, or smell the stink of the stove cement drying when the stove is first lit. When you take the combustor out and clean it, handle it lightly, be careful when you blow a little air through the combustor to get rid of accumulated ash and it will last a long time. Eventually you will have to replace it, though. I use a small wooden tool I made to chink the wire, steel wool, foil seal into the seams of the stove. It looks like a large straight blade screw diver made out of wood. The blade is about 1 to 1.5 inches wide. This does the chinking job nicely.

The American Eagle fire back works as expected. It does seem to throw a bit more heat out than without it. I mainly wanted to protect the back of my fireplace and this worked great for that. I measured the fireplace before hand and found that this fire back would fit perfectly and it did.

I was looking on and off for a few years. Originally, I was finding fire backs in the $250-$450 range. This I was not willing to spend. I bought this item for $157 and I can't be happier. I would definitely make this purchase again.

In addition to being totally functional piece added to my fireplace this cast-iron Black American Eagle Fire Back is attractive and it's great deal of character and atmosphere. Initially I wasn't so sure that you would be able to view the Eagle as well as you actually can. The craftsmanship is solid and I would recommend this to anybody that wanted to enhance their fireplace.

Shipped intact, though one spike was gone. This is a nicely done piece. It comes with spikes on the trays to keep 3" pillar candles from tipping over. My use was to use two plug in strings of electric 3" pillars, rather unusual. I had to very carefully drill the bottom of each of the plastic "candles" so that they would sit on the spikes, as the spikes aren't removable. I draped black, fireproof fabric over the candles, cutting x's in the cloth to hide the wires. The effect in my fireplace is nice and I get great comments.

Note that for its intended use, that of using real wax candles, this fixture would be ideal. I simply didn't want to buy and burn real candles all the time, nor did I want to be replacing batteries in flame less candles. I took off one star for the missing spike. Other than that, good product, well made.

I have a 900+ sq foot basement with 8 ft ceilings. I've had this heater for about a week. I am absolutely amazed at how comfortable and warm the entire space is now. It's in the low thirties outside, and my entire basement with the new heater is in the low seventies, a good 10+ degrees higher than before. The unit is very quiet, clicks once in a while to regulate temps. So easy to use and set up. I'm just so happy that I actually WANT to go down to the basement now and hang out WITHOUT my scarf. The flame is very realistic my son and his friend thought this heater was a real wood stove. The box says pennies a day to operate, I hope that's true. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product it will improve your quality of life.

The only down side I had to buy a wine cooler so my wines won't go bad because of the higher temperatures. :)

This Stove packs a punch! It heats my 1200 sq. ft. Apartment great! Plus it looks very realistic! I have other family members who have eden pure infrared heaters, that work just as good, but don't look as good as this one. I love that all the controls are behind the door, so little one's cant mess with them. Very quality construction. The only thing I don't like, is the temperature control, it doesn't tell what temp it's set at, so I have to guess where to set it, but I can live with that one flaw, since it looks so good!

Got this for my garage to use in the winter I turned it on and BAMM!!! heat that warmed the area so well and it looks really cool, the flame control and light control are nothing but to entertain you but its great to look it and its not all plastic, the outside is a metal, only the legs are plastic. I hate that it is a "American" looking stove but made in China but its really nice 5 stars from me. Got unit, put it in an 8X10 bedroom with door closed to heat for guests. Was on for an hour, using high button and thermostat turned up full throttle, absolutely NO change in temp. Has nice flames but didn't change room temp at all. Very disappointed. Got out small bathroom heater, the portable types. In 15 mins, the room was warmed. I have two other electric stoves, one purchased on amazon...an electrolog which isn't made anymore evidently, but it still works great. And also a plow and hearth brand small capacity that is charming. Thought an infrared would be a great new choice. Very disappointed as I am out shipping to get it here and probably to send it back. Awaiting response from vendor, but would highly recommend that you seek other brand. Other reviewer must have one that isn't defective, I certainly got a dud. Shipping back rate made no sense to return as price more than double that of original shipping paid to receive, vendor return address where return would be made they use different warehouses than their locale, and if it wasn't deemed deflective, then a restocking rate applies from vendor. Note to shoppers, read vendor guidelines carefully before purchasing from 3rd party vendor here.

I was looking for an iron screen to keep my two toddler out of our large fireplace. I found this one and liked the design. I was surprised when it arrived about how light it was. Although it is a beautiful piece. It is not quality. Only the front side of the screen has the intricate carvings you see in the picture. The back is completely flat. I decided to keep ours anyway because of how nice it looks with our fireplace, but it was definitely not worth the high price tag.

My old spark cap on top of the chimney rusted away, and I had a serious problem with starlings nesting in my chimney for quite a while before I finally found this.

Stainless means buying it just once and never worrying about it again. Can't find any fault with that! The fit was very loose, and I couldn't find a size that was closer, but replacing the included screws with longer stainless ones got the job done, no problems.

Well they are super long, wooden, and really great for roasting marshmellows or hotdogs. Not much more really can be said about a few sticks but they are definitely worth not having to find a wire hanger or use a shaved branch anymore!

I used this product with a bunch of elementary aged children. It worked perfectly for them. When we were finished, we were able to simply throw the sticks into the fire to dispose of them. If you are doing smores with a large group of people (especially children), I recommend using this. They are a bit shorter than most sticks or coat hangers would be, but still function well. You may be standing a little closer to the fire than with alternatives.

I can't even tell you how many of log picker uppers we've bought. This is the only one we will ever need. It arrived when said and in perfect condition. This baby is heavy...I mean made to last.
